Today wasn't great but tomorrow is another day :ghug: I'm almost happy now that I will be working during men's FS :drama:
But I have something positive from today too: during monument ceremony I thought that his haircut was horrible but I've changed my mind

The "mind" one is absolutely adorable. It warms my heart :luv17: I'll watch more of everything later, prepared for what's coming. Actually I recorded it on NBCSN at home so they should have it too. I'm at work now and have class tonight but I should be able to watch it when I get home.

As for Yuzu's "mind". I'm sure we can't help but wonder about him whenever he is like this, but he is a genius at work. They aren't the easiest people to figure out. I really just think it's mental exhaustion at play here and it's totally human. Some decent R&R is all I want for him so he can get re-energized for the grueling months to come.

What do you mean?

Hm, do you think Yuzu would let issues with other people affect him so much?

I think there are so many things that might have bothered him. Javi almost broke his WR at Worlds, Yuzu wanted a clean SP too much, everyone expected another WR from him, he wasn't at nationals and it's his first competition in Japan since then, he probably thinks he needs to prove that he is a world champion :gaah:, everyone expects him to jump 4Lz or 4A, Brian wasn't there, media, Olympics, he is exhausted... Like Brian once said: "Before Olympics everyone puts rocks in your backpack". He put some of them himself :palmf: I hope Brian and Tracy help him to take some of those rocks out.

If it was health, we'll know later, I hope it wasn't.

Honestly, I don't think it's health.
And I think it's just exhaustion, nothing else. He spent everything on that Worlds, at the proper time, after a very difficult, in many ways, season and he probably cannot force himself past a certain point, especially for a competition where deep down, he knows it's irrelevant even if external pressures are huge.

A sport psychologist couldn't hurt but yes, it cannot be done at TCC and in that case I am not sure how that would even work.

Maybe there is a Japanese-speaking sport psychologist in Toronto somewhere? Canada has a large Asian population after all.

Ok, i'm kind of late to the party since i worked all day... but :

so *ouch* at the sp at home for Yuzu. Poor guy... it was like he knew it would not be perfect again after the loop so he kind of gave up on it, which is so unusual from him. He so wants to perform well all the time that I think he overthinks and just won't let it come naturally. sometimes I wish he'd get more in touch with just the joy he gets from skating. We all know he loves it, it is evident, but sometimes I think he gets overly analytical about competing and this overthinking and wanting perfection gets in the way of just enjoying what he's doing. His obvious disappointment was tough to watch, but he should do better tomorrow. He is a real competitor, no doubt.

That being said, I"m glad the off season is almost upon us. These guys need a break and I"m sure the last few weeks have been very tiring for him. I think developing some new programs with new focus will be good for him. Start fresh, clean out the cobwebs, blank slate, new programs and new season.

If you meant issues with other people, then it should be one of those days, isn't it?
Frankly, he is always that intense for me. Sometimes it works out for him, sometimes it doesn't. Today is one of those days when it didn't work out. His team has been working on it, trying to make him calmer and less intense to see if it gives him better results, but things like this is quite tricky to work out. It's like telling people who have anxiety problem : "hey, don't get anxious!" or phobia : "hey, don't be scared of this". It is a work in progress that takes time, which may or may not give a result.
If it was health, we'll know later, I hope it wasn't.
Some people suggesting he should go to sports psychologist. It might be a good idea, but it can't be done in TCC, language and cultural barrier will make it very ineffective.

But he always does that? Overanalyzing things and deeply analyzing everything? He has been like that since his junior years and he is always down/upset after a defeat. The difference is when he was younger and only started as a senior, a 2nd or a 3rd place finish is considered an achievement and good result for him. But nowadays, let's be real, he will not settle and be content for anything less than first or a world record. Heck, he is not even content with 1st anymore if he won it with a less-than-stellar performance. So wishing that he will go back to being jolly finishing 2nd or 3rd is something that is not gonna happen, to be honest.

Of course I would wish that he would take it easy , relax, be happy and enjoy competitions a bit more. But at the same time he is who he is and this whole kuyashii, self-pressuring, intense, overanalyzing traits are what made Yuzuru, Yuzuru; and these traits maybe are what allow him to reach new heights, win things, break records and be a legend in FS.

In a really paradoxical way, it's the unpredictability of his talent that makes the wins and clean skates all the more enthralling to watch!

We all know the symptoms of anticipation: nausea, cold sweats (!), irritability! But when he NAILS it, it's the most amazing endorphin rush. Because we all know just how slender than line between perfection and bombing can be in this sport --that's why it's so addictive :) And entertaining. It's the suspense!

And Yuzu himself is in so many ways the ideal embodiment of everything that makes FS so compelling.

But man....that popped 4L made me inhale my tea :reye:

Lol no, you said if there was issues like in Boston and in Boston there were so many issues like health, peaking, pressure AND his incident with D10. I don't know which issues you are referring to so I just mentioned it there.
Yes, about intensity- after all this time I think, he is intense. He said something about his emotions in the post- sp- interview as well..and this is what gives him genius - and sometimes regrets. It is part of how he is.

I think the same. Also if you read the entire interview, he still sound eager and positive. I meant other skaters might shrug themselves after they mess up and be happy with whatever placement but I would never imagine (and I never saw) Yuzuru would be cheerful, jolly and shrug it off after a bad skate so... :slink:

Yeah I hope so too, because I think what most important for him is to be healthy by now.
Also, agreed. Bright side of this is it would fire him up and he probably would fly to Toronto immediately to work on his programs and his issues. Not sure about sports psychologist, but he can't work with an english-speaking one lol there will just be disconnect due to language and culture

One other thing, I always say how I am not so happy if he spend too many times away from his coaches and do unsupervised training. It is easy to overwrite muscle memory when you don't have someone pointing out what you did wrong and correct them immediately. We saw time and again how training alone in a longer period of time rarely result in anything good for him. I hope he took this as a consideration for his future approach.

I've had this gut feeling for a while that he won't go to NHK. I know it sounds crazy, and that he skates well there. I don't know if skating at home is a rock in the backpack, or the opposite. Somehow it seems to be both. Anyway, I think GPF in Japan is enough. Let's switch things up with fresh GPs.

Can he skate in an all-black costume next season?

OMG that hand :dbana:

Oh I wish. His lines! A pure competition skate in blacks with great music! Please! I love his costumes, all of them :slink: ! But...those lines. To this ignorant (but working at it) adorer of Yuzu's skating he is pure skating, the thing itself, as very very few others have ever been in their time. I wish only for his happiness, though, and if that includes a beautiful and blingy costume then that is what I will love! (please not white)

So true. Worlds was a roller coaster I'll never forget. If I knew he'd always skate lights out no matter what I probably wouldn't be as emotionally invested as I am and while I'm happy about his win, maybe I wouldn't have been quite as happy? It's like with him the highs are even higher but at the same time the lows feel lower. I shouldn't be sad he didn't skate well here but I am because he's sad. I just think it's something about me and adversity where I treasure the success even more. I was a big Plushenko fan and I got to see him win worlds at the very first worlds I attended, but watching him win and watching Yuzu win felt like two very different levels of happiness. And then Shen and Zhao's win while she had to skate on a numb leg after she injured herself in practice and then they deliver a skate for the ages?! THAT was the win I treasure the most from that time. I met Shue Shen in Helsinki and told her I was there then and moved to tears and she smiled. Though it was long ago, it was clear she remembered it well.

One last thought I had, because he looked so solemn before the skate - and some like his usual self afterwards, even if he had not the skate he had wished.

I had the phantasy that he really, and in earnest, and with all his sincerity, thought about Prince and his death-day, and so he was earnest and solemn.

I would not put it past him. He is this kind of intense and almost childlike sincere. He goes completely into it.

Well, we won´t know.

Now I have to go to bed. Just wanted to say, how much I admire his sportsmanship as well. Not giving up, skating on, a beautiful second half:)

Wow.

I look forward to what Yuzu will have for his programs next season :)

I hope Yuzu does something like Japanese traditional/folk for one of his programs (Seimei worked beautifully)

Yes! Where do I throw in my voting slip? And I'd love some lyrics as well, I really want to start hearing other languages besides English, French, Italian and Spanish for skating programs.

Something subtle like Hope and Legacy is fine too (I love this FS program so much)

Yuzu always has pretty costumes so he can wear a rainbow for all I care (LOL)

He'll make the rainbow work somehow...

And another triple 'Yes!' to these ^ ^ I agree with your most recent posts so much, makes me wonder if you also (or if anyone else beside me, anyway) love the Swan best of all his programs so far.
