Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Just caught up on all the gala and 4Lz news, only took me several hours Honestly I'm so glad to see Yuzu this happy, I was worried about his mental state after the SP but he seems to have really let loose all of a sudden! Every gif of him having fun extends my life by about 5 years making up for the r*word stress and quints talk...

Does Yuzuru have a restriction or limit on jumping quads now? Bc i think at the end of the Gala, Mihara asked him to do quad but he responded "dekinai" (can't)???? while shaking his head and smiling. I could be wrong tho ...

About the 4 Lz, since it is a toe jump, will it affect Yuzu's injury? I know he doesn't do as much toe-loop as before bc of his injury and he puts more focus on edge jumps on his programs for the same reason.

I feel like he is really conscious towards his health nowadays that if 4Lz had the risk to trigger his injury especially during the Olympic season, he would rather avoiding it completely.

It's a different foot. He injured his left foot, and he jumps lutz off his right toepick. So in fact he was able to jump lutzes when he couldn't jump toeloops back in summer.

Anyone sees this during PPAP?? I think he will give his jacket to someone bc he puts his signature with WTT 2017 underneath. I really would die to get that jacket tbh

as much as im scared to see a competed 4a, i want yuzu to be the first, and im scared that if he doesn't do it soon, Nathan, Shoma etc. will beat him

Don't worry, they won't. Their axels aren't strong enough for them to try it. It's a risky idea for anyone, and they won't want to injure themselves. Who knows what the future will bring, but right now Yuzu is the best candidate by far. Not only is his 3A among the best ever, it is definitely the most reliable ever. The axel has never been such a trusted friend to anyone else. And this is with complicated entries. With a simple entry, thinking of the 4A becomes possible. But for now only on Planet Hanyu, population one.

If you live in Japan, or do not mind subscribing from Japan, I recommend a monthly magazine "Hiragana Times" to learn Kanji, if you are a moderate-level learner with the knowledge of Hiragana letters. I'm not sure about their on-line service.

And, children's books and especially Manga with furigana (hiragana attached to Kanji characters for pronunciation). Actually, Many Japanese children (including me ) master how to read Kanji through these books with furigana. You can enjoy reading them anyway.

Kanji is fun once you understand the structure with meaning. I feel as if solving a quiz sometimes :agree:

I kinda thought Yuzu didn't go for a quad battle at the end cuz none of the other boys did, he didn't want to pull any focus from Kanako or he was happy to let the girls have their moment since the girls were pretty much how team Japan won...

Yes, I noticed this too. I was actually waiting for him to throw his jacket to the audience sometime during their opening number. I was already getting envious of whoever it was who would catch it. He never did though, and I guess that's all for the better because otherwise there could have been a mad struggle in the audience for it lol.

Thanks for the references above! I'm also trying to learn kanji. Did you guys find it helped practicing writing the kanji while memorizing them? Or are reading/flashcards/mnemonics usually enough?

In my experience it is absolutely necessary to write them. The ones i haven't practised much i can read them but i can't write them (that's the sole reason why i was placed in level three and not level four at japanese school haha)
And i REALLY recommend the Anki app. I am using the All in One kanji deck, which might not be the best one to learn since it's in the order they teach the kanji at school but i'm beggining with 4th grade kanji already (plus some others i've learned from doing a ton of reading) so it might be ok for you guys.
And if anyone has a Nintendo DS and can acquire the game, i also use this to practice the stroke order and do drills when i have free time
(Or you could install an emulator on your phone like i did... )

Poor Shoma!!! He's older than Zhenya by 2 years!

Truthfully, whenever I see him and Yuzu together. I can't decide if I see an alert naughty kitty and a confuzzled puppy or Clamp manga bishounen Subaru Sumeragiand Akira Ijyuin. They both have such long lashes! :luv17:

He may have self-censored. Knock on wood, his entire attitude towards his health seems to have changed significantly for the better so I think he probably knew that he was tired and that the risk of injury is greatest then. He also has proof now just how much better it goes when he is fully fit, so that has to be an extra incentive.
