As to the article written by Akiko Suzuki, I just took it as she WANTS to see more passionate performance by Yuzuru next. As H&L is such a calm, profound, or introspective in a meaning program (all the more it was so touching as well as emotional when it was performed perfect), it is true that this program has some difficulty to win other competitors with commanding lead. (Noriko Shirota admitted H&L had some disadvantage in getting PCS as the music was not the one to help his performance. While Nathen's dramatic music helped his performance and covered his minor mistakes, not affecting GOE so much.)

I'm sure Yuzuru knew that and took the risk to use H&L hoping to improve himself as it was the last season before the Olympics. And, I'm also quite sure it was a total success.

Now, the Olympic season. If Yuzuru chooses dramatic programs (like Seimei maybe), Akiko will surely see what she wants to see from Yuzuru. I think she just wants to see another type of programs with high expectation after all.

I'm a little sad for Boyang, looks like everyone just pass him over. Hope he will continue to medaling not only at Worlds but Olympics too! Yuzu, Javi, Boyang is my dream podium.

Anyhow, when things like negative articles are brought up, I am very glad Hanyu lives far from the home pressure; and I hope he doesn't give a toss what the naysayers are saying, and keeps working at his own pace. His achievements speak for themselves.

As I have said 2 days ago, brace yourselves, It will be worse than Daisuke/Machida/Yuzuru pre-post Sochi, because Kansai is nowhere near Nagoya's level in playing dirty. It is Olympics and Nagoya has a contender in men finally, that makes things even more difficult. People with weak hearts , please do not read the articles which will come out whole this year, there will be loads of them trying to undermine Yuzuru and paint him as "inconsistent", "old". Try to stay insensitive as much as it is possible and keep this thread positive, friendly advice

Political reasons. They have their own skaters to promote, and in this case Nagoya has Shoma Uno.

If I post my whole chat with a Japanese fan who was pretty much frustrated at how some parts of Japanese media painting Yuzuru as some weakling and outdated skater, it would create some unnecessary drama. Just saying that inside Japan, Yuzuru is surely loved. But there's a potions do not like him for political reasons and they have been under-valuing him from time to time. They lie and gave out false/misleading statements many times. But of course they're not the majority.

And of course, their article with photoshopped photos to make things not as they are made me laugh too much. How can they fake photos like that, it's so obvious. Chinese fans pointed that out and were furious.

I remember posting the collection of that article to a Japanese fan and she said: "Please be rational, that's Nagoya block, what do you expect?"

Now I am calm and collected and I trust Yuzuru, I am not freaking out about those media anymore. It's still hilarious they have to do that to their best skater they ever have, and the best in history across the world nevertheless.
But anyway it doesn't matter, Yuzuru will spend his time to train for Olympic and no time to care, then why should we care about them.

Ever since Yuzu won Japan Nationals for the first time. -When any skater becomes a champion in Japan it's bound to happen. There are bandwagoners, and naysayers, it's business to write about figure skating and if it's slightly controversial it might get more publicity. I don't go looking and just focus on the skating that I like.
In light of that. My mom LOVED Yuzu's last Notte Stelata plus LGC encore. Finally, his 3A+twizzles worked out.
I've been watching it on repeat for the last few days.

This all seems quite fascinating in a trainwreck way. Does this happen with other federations or is it more of a Japanese thing? I feel like their media really likes to push rivalries.

Edit: For example, I find it very interesting the amount of attention Japanese media is paying to Nathan Chen.

Not when we can be discussing Yuzu's costumes, programs, and hats. To each their own of course.

It happens everywhere but since Russia and Japan are the countries where currently figure skating is most popular and pushed by media, it has much more noise than in other small feds, as Example same issues in Italy with Icelab vs Torino or in French fed - Zazoui vs Haguenauer, In Russia it is madness there are so many ...

This is kind of fascinating. But I should have known figure skating would be a political game, but I thought it was more of an international political game. Didn't consider exactly how deep the inner politics would also be in each country. This reminds me of reading people complain about Anna Pogo's scores at Russian Nationals that landed her in 4th; which I guess are partially related to these internal politics.

Personally I think it's better to talk about it "publicly" then to pretend it doesn't exist, however briefly. Politicking is an aspect of this sport that you can't ignore if you pay the slightest bit of attention. Even though we can't change anything it's good to understand circumstances - and speak out when needed.

Don't worry, as a long time fan, I know that Yuzuru is much loved across the country. The influence he has in Japan can't be undermined by some political or personal articles.
let's move on and forget the political groups. It's better to know but there's nothing we can do. It's a part of this world in everything aspects of life.
Yuzuru will be fine, he does not have any political group behind his back but his popularity and his talent make it up. No one dare stop him if he wants. He has Shirota supporting him and that's enough.

Don't forget about Oda! He always praises Yuzu's jump technique so much!!! He also pointed out just bc Yuzu made it looked easy, it didn't mean what Yuzu did was easy, in fact what he did was the most difficult thing ever that it was actually ridiculous!!! He also the one of very few commentators who pointed out how difficult and beautiful Yuzu's 3F was in the FS!
