wow. if Yuzu can't be discussed in his homeland... what are we complaining about? About one case of cyber bullying?

My impression is that his fans are still in the vast majority in Japan? And there are still some nice threads about him in some secret boards... some of those are NSFW but the intentions are good :) It's just that some other people have too much time and try to smear him, while normal fans have actual lives so don't bother to deal with the crazy. It's not so bad.

#YOLO :)

Seems like a lot had happened while I was sleeping on the floor after checking so many articles and news clips covering the JOC camp. I haven’t seen the thread and didn’t even know such thread has existed but from your posts I could imagine how it was.

English is not my native language so I’m mainly on Japanese platforms and most of the Japanese skating fans’ reactions I’ve seen to the video were quite positive. They were enjoying the detailed annotations on steps and turns and amazed at your love and effort. Although figure skating is very popular in Japan, Japanese media is not always informative about the technique and rules of the sport, so there are many fans who want to know more about what skaters actually do on the ice. This video is something that such fans have been waiting for. I found a few people are worried that some might use this kind of fan-made stuff to attack judges and other skaters, but the focus of this video is on his beautiful technique and how he presented it at that moment in Helsinki. If you are not too biased you can’t take it wrong.

I feel so sorry for those who have been hurt seeing negative reactions from some people, but I want you to know that there are many people who appreciate your work, much more than they seem on this forum.

ETA: I’ve read the thread (I didn’t know that a thread will remain readable after being closed :o: ) and I still feel the same. Thank you all for the video!

So, I'm catching up with this thread and the thread over on the edge and, well...

I think it's a shame some GS users saw the video as something it wasn't. I didn't take the GOE bullet breakdowns as a way to argue that the perormance was underscored. I think questioning whether all bullets were hit on certain jumps is a fair thing to question, and shows why judging is done on averages, some fans see 6 bullets and a +3 and some see 4 bullets and a +2, same as the judges do, because some bullets are not totally objective. I took the showing of max GOE, actual GOE and the GOE per the opinion of the analyst as nothing more than showing 'here are the bullets one/some thought he hit, the score he would have gotten if he was awarded that GOE, the maximum that could be awarded and the average score given by the panel of judges'. The fact is, it's rare for any element from any skater to get a +3 across the panel of judges.

Some yuzu fans may have thought the worlds performance deserved a higher score, but tbh I think that ended up being more in comparison with some of the GOEs that were awarded to skaters that came after him, and it wasn't only Yuzu fans saying that. Overall...I'm new to FS and I'm still learning how CoP works but I think points should be awarded to whatever is in the performance regardless of what came before or what comes after and any evidence/suggestion that earlier skaters are at a disadvantage depending on what number they draw should be addressed and eliminated whenever possible, the same way PCS corridoors and rewarding tech content on PCS should be reduced. There is subjectivity in the scoring of GOE and PCS, that's why there's 9 judges and final scores are given off an average. On the one hand, I feel its not a big deal so long as the order is right, on the other hand overscoring and underscoring of some skaters does need to be addressed but fans do need to consider when they have those kinds of complaints if it is coming out of bias, and consider that we have a lot more time to wach and rewatch HD videos with HD slowmo of performances to pick apart errors on jumps that the judges do not have.

When I saw the video I saw it as a useful tool for people who are getting into FS to see and begin to understand the complexity of the program and how FS is more than just jumps. FS is seeing a lot of new people starting to get interested in it who want to learn these kinds of things, a lot of these new people are looking at Yuzuru and with olympics coming up there's going to be more new people. Yuzuru is popular and already fairly well known outside of FS, so videos like these are valuable for drawing new fans in and helping them start to understand scoring, levelling and steps even if there is some generousity in the GOE bullets or some inaccuracy in the steps listed (the comment about crossovers vs chasse at one point in the video). It does bug me that in the thread the users were ignoring the people involved in the video whenever they responded to criticism on the video...It should have been wrapped up a lot sooner as soon as people said 'it wasn't meant as an argument that he was underscore, it's just to celebrate the program'.

The WR stuff was dumb since GS has called it a WR, the media is going to call it a WR until he hits a new PB, and whether the ISU recognises them or not, calling highest scores WR gets them talked about a lot more and will help market FS in the upcoming Oly season.

I don't really think it's worth leaving the fotum over though. It's a pity some users had to turn a positive thing into something negative and take a video that wanted to celebrate and widely underappreciated program and twist it into 'yuzuru hanyu ubers throwing a tantrum because he didn't get 100 in PCS or +3s across the board'. I come on here, I have tumblr, I follow fs/yuzufans on twitter and for me I like it here because it's not a yuzu fan echo chamber but yeah this was unnecessary and those particular users have hate boners for yuzu/yuzu's fans. I don;t think they are worth leaving the forum for, though. The opinion of a few people doesn't change the achievement of H&L, or Yuzuru's achievements overall, or that Yuzuru is already considered/will be considered one of the greatest skaters of all time for years to come.

Too bad about that Edge thread, It's a shame as I was also looking forward from other FS fans who might benefit from it/also have some input about the video, just for it to be derailed by the same posters again and again... and I just can't with the snarky "fans have the time" comment after all the hardwork that was put into it. :disapp:

With the things happening these past few days, if this is any indication, and with the Olympics looming, and with everyone's pitchfork ready this just means the more that we have to stick together . We might have some arguments here and there, but rememberYuzu's
words....

As a Japanese fan of yuzu since 2011 and a casual fan of figure skating since Witt, Ito and Manley era,
I want to say thank you so so much for creating the video of Annotated Hope & Legacy. I cried.
I've been lurking and de-lurking around 5 years in this forum, but recently I'm spending longer time here compared to a half year ago.

I usually gather information from twitters and blogs of Japanese yuzu fans, but I sometimes find this thread more informative, insightful and simply fun and crazy! I'm enjoying your posts (even invisible) and they always give me a big smile. ありがとうございます!

At the end, @meoima-san, your prediction of Yuzu's winning worlds save my life! Thank you, and I pray for your quick and full recovery.

Hi everyone

I just wanted to let you know that i created a youtube account "Sportymags" and posted 2 videos that I took. First one is Yuzu leaving the Small Medal Ceremony at Worlds in Helsinki. Second video is Yuzu's first ever public practice run-through of Lets Go Crazy at 2016 Autumn Classic in Montreal. Here is link to The run-through. Will post more videos when I can.

I also created a @Realsportymags twitter account where I post the video links and photos and blog entries as I do not always post here. I can't keep up with how fast this thread moves! Hopefully this will brighten up your day! Enjoy Yuzu!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVnkVAYifBM Sporty mags has uploaded the very first runthrough of LGC from the Autumn Classic. So much time has gone by!
Do you remember your first impression when you saw LGC for the first time?
Has your perception changed?

I remember not liking the opening tones of the music and thought they were distracting. I hadn't listened to much of Prince music and had never heard of this song before. But I was as always impressed by the step sequence and how musical Yuzu is.

The biggest shock was the costume though. :eeking:

I remember I got almost a heart attack when I saw the pics on facebook and it was almost all white. Then I almost got another one after I saw it changed to all purple :p

So...What triggered your first heart attack? And what triggered your second? :dev3:

My first thought on LGC's costume : $@%$# White!!! :dbana: But where's the rest of him???? :roll9:

The music I liked, except the opening monologue. It was kind of awkward for me even up till GPF-ish. :p

Funny thing I actually love the monologue :dance2:

Hi everyone.

I've been lurking around this thread for over a month, and only recently got the guts to actually make an account here. I was pretty late in joining the Yuzu-lovetrain, probably only around 2013ish or whenever PW SP came out. At that time, I found the men's figure skating a bit of a downer, especially if compared to the Plushenko and Yagudin era ( I love both btw). So one day, randomly browsing a figure skating forum, I found people gushing over this little guy called Hanyu Yuzuru, googled him up, and fell instantly in love with him-the speed, the perfect jumps, the edges, the artistic pizzazz. For the jumps especially, probably everything I was taught for "rulebook perfect" when I trained in figure skating. Needless to say, never looked back and never regretted it.

Other than that, I'm from China, natively fluent in both Chinese and English. About male fans, well there are quite a number in China, the wechat group I'm in for my rink here has about 30ish (which is all the guys in that group).

For the annotated video, good gracious, you guys rock! Step sequences are so difficult to ID and annotate and you guys nailed it! And it highlights the artistic difficulty of that program. So please whatever happens, please do not get sad by the naysayers, please don't move.

It was kind of awkward for me even up till GPF-ish. :p

Same :slink: But I think that's awesome too—it was a stretch for him but then he conquered it. Forget the combo, at Worlds it was one of the most entertaining things I've ever seen in my life. I haven't been to a rock concert in a long time, but it had that mood. One of the Olympic programs should have that same type of feeling.
