Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

The intervews are unending, can't possibly post them all, but this one is fun.
Some q and a with Shoma and Yuzu on this morning's ZIP
https://twitter.com/kottymarusan/status/965360841934565376
Now it can be told, Honestly, did you think you could medal?
Yuzu puts his circle up right away, then Shoma.
So fast!
"You could say I lived for this. I was skating since I was four. I bet it all on the Olympics"

Is there something amazing about the other person that you envy?
Both put up a circle.
Yuzu admires Shoma's naturalness, Yuzu says he is intensely introspective and analyzes everything and then builds up but Shoma goes by feel, and can naturally skate without feeling the Olympic pressure. (paraphrasing)
Shoma admires Yuzu's ability to perform while feeling nervous and says that he won't always have competitions in which he feels no nervousness, so when it happens, he wants to be able to perform like Hanyu.

When you are alone in your room. Do you put on the medal again?
Both put up the X right away with a dead pan face.

I have a question if anyone knows the answer. Is Yuzuru’s short program a nod towards the Your Lie in April anime? As in he is the character of Kosei in the program? I mention it because of the Chopin song choice and it’s relation to the anime.

In my opinion not at all, Kosei is a very sad character and that last performance of Chopin, oh boy how many times I have cried with it :sad21:
On the other hand, Yuzu starts the step sequence with a lot of joy and freshness. Kosei's Chopin screams "Ikenaide" like himself, Yuzu's is like "Tadaima"

And also, wasn't Jeff the one that chose the music?

No, it was Jeff who chose the music for his short that season.

To get things back an a positive note, I read a Japanese translation of this beautiful article by Plushenko about Yuzu. Yuzu has looked up to Plushenko for years, and he's been such a kind mentor to him. Starting from the time he was 10 years old and came to Plushenko during a summer show and asked for advice.
I hope some Russian speakers can give us an English translation? I don't want to do a Russian-Japanese-English translation since that would not be accurate.

These two great, great skaters have changed the face of the sport, and Yuzu still says that Plushenko is the greatest. ;) And Plushenko has said that Yuzu is his idol.

https://youtu.be/ZNEb8FbFxr8 --and here is a close fan-cam of Yuzu Javi and Shoma's warm hug before the rink-side ceremony.
I'm posting this here also because I'd like to see if any readers of this thread might want to translate a bit of Plushenko's artcle into english? It's in russian.

I'm sure you guys already have all the information on this. Confirmation from Doug Haw that Yuzu only started training jumps 3 weeks before. He calls him tougher than Elvis Stojko. It was a mental triumph more than anything. I wouldn't have known just by looking at the performances

I can't sleep, he has been on TV all day. My eyes and head are soured from keep editing the video. Please help :dbana:

I wonder if he goes to cheer for the ladies tomorrow, I remember he did in Sochi and was almost crying when he was watching Mao's FS.

I totally understand! I've been trying to keep up with all the interviews and other things, and I still have to work! It's crazy. --And how do Yuzu and Shoma survive doing all of it and still smile?
Someone asked for the BESP commentary?
https://twitter.com/nagi_y1/status/965271696230957056 Here it is.

Kanako was filmed watching the Figure Skating live...https://twitter.com/corszk1220/status/965510799916544005 She says she can imagine what Yuzu felt, and how hard it must have been.
