Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I didn't know Samantha Thavasa was a Japanese brand (Miranda Kerr was in CM so I thought it was a foreign brand :drama:).

"Seven years ago, our Sendai shop and the staff there had very hard time, but there were truly a lot of people's support for the store to resume business. We felt it was a good opportunity to tell thanks to such people and participated in this charity."

I'm a fan of their Sailor Moon collection myself. Really cute purses and wallets.

Yuzuru isn't going to participate at Worlds this season so he won't be in the Top 12 at Worlds. He is firmly, of course, in the Top 24 Season's Best. How will his assignments for GP next season work, if he does recover enough (and decides) to participate? He has one spot available due to his Top 24 SB status but for the second spot he will need a host invitation slot, correct?
He might be better off just doing one GP event by returning for NHK. Gives him more time to heal and also develop two new programs tailored to the new code of points. Really no need to push himself to qualify for GPF at this point in his career, especially since peaking too early in the season has been an issue for him in the past.

Thank you, there are a lot of parts that are calling my attention.

First
(I) "We had you and Shoma in this show after the 2017 World Championships. You won the gold and you were smiling. Yet you looked like you were still in a fight towards the Olympics. Compared to back then, you now look that you are finally freed."

Yuzu "Yes, I actually feel being released now. It was like facing a dead end with no luck left. I cornered myself, and it was quite a difficult situation. I bet and sacrificed so many things. So I am fulfilled as all my sacrifices and work paid off, in a way."
He was really under so much pressure, since LP ended it really looked like the weight of the world was listed of his shoulders... glad he can enjoy himself now...

This
(I) "Ahh does it hurt by watching it, oh I'm so sorry..."

Yuzu "It was a hard time for sure, but people who cheer for me continuously cheered for me. And the skaters I respect and admire kept on raising the voice that they believed in me. So I strongly felt that I had to believe in myself."
Is that shade Yuzuru? you little sassy boy...
Wonder if there was any skaters being lest than positive about it and his taking a spot with out participating in nationals

I don’t detect any shade — I mean, it can be read as such, but he and Boyang always look like Those Two Guys who are BFFs at summer camp every year, he clearly has no animosity or anything toward Chen, etc. I think he was honestly just trying to say that the support from other athletes was another form of “I can’t let the people who believe in me” down, especially when you look at some of the skaters at this year’s games, who name him as one of their skating idols or inspirations.

As for nationals, I really doubt it. He was flat-out guaranteed a spot on the Olympic team based on his world ranking alone. If anything, skipping nationals (arguably) meant there was another spot on the podium and more visibility for a rising talent. Anyone who thought Hanyu wouldn’t be named was on his painkillers. The only way he wasn’t skating at the OWG was if he had to withdraw at the last moment because it just wasn’t remotely possible to skate, but, realistically, an injured Hanyu is still Japan’s best shot at the OGM, period, and an injured Hanyu did win it. [emoji23] So if anyone was salty about his missing nationals... they should feel appropriately stupid now.

You are right, but I like this relaxed Yuzuru. His answer are still meaningful but he is ready to say no if he needs to (he is not considering going to Beijing may go if he feels like it)...The Yuzuru after Sochi was so eager to please, this is a more confident, free one... I like him, he is cool

Go Yuzuru now pick an rock emo song and give me a great short program ... may I suggest Believer from Imagine Dragons..:yes2:

I agree. I think experience and age (though he is still VERY young) has matured him even more. Hence the confidence and calm.

I wonder if he will remain with Orser or if he’ll return to Japan to finish out his competitive career. He’s learned a lot under Orser’s tuledge but I wonder if they’ve exhausted the coach/pupil relationship? They’ve accomplished more than anyone could’ve imagined. I can’t imagine what more they can do together. What challenges they can bring to each other. Though I would like them to try. I’ve enjoyed their partnership and hope it will remain until Yuzuru decides to hang up his amatuer skates.

I think he will go back to Borser, sounds to me like this next chapter in his career will be more about reaching more tech and artistry quality and he knows he needs his coaches and choreographers near to achieve that. He probably would cut some of his time in Canada but he will remain part of the cricket club.

I know that he should really miss Japan and his family being together.

Does somebody knows how much times does normally Yuzuru spend in Japan, during off season? 3 months?

I think his visa is a sporting one, no? so he needs to get out from Canada time to time?

Well. 4A. Who else could teach it better than Mr. Triple Axel, Brian Orser? ;)

Apart from that I think, Yuzu's injury at NHK and his miraculous fight-back made the bond between him and Brian stronger than ever before. Coach and student must be close to an abstract father-son-relationship now.
#Sidenote: PyeongChang Olympics was the first event I can remember, where Yuzu called Brian by his first name. No big deal in western countries, but in Japan this is something very special as far as I know.

I really can't imagine any other coach for Yuzu than Brian at this point. He knows best, what Yuzu needs to reach his goals, overcome obstacles and gain physical and mental strength. They are a rehearsed team now and I'm sure that Brian is really looking forward to teach a new, self confident Yuzuru Hanyu on fire without Olympic pressure :hap93:

Edit:

Yes, I'm sure he does. On the other hand... well, it's questionable, whether he can live a normal everyday life in Japan at the moment. I doubt he can leave his house without being attacked by a cluster of journalists and screaming fangirls. Canada gives him some room to rest and stay in private.

So I went on a tangent of Yuzu interviews and I have a question - did he have a lisp (if that's even a thing in Japanese) when he was younger?

Wonder how Mao does it?

Hm, isn't Hanyu currently in Japan but completely flying under the radar? I imagine he's living a normal day-to-day life right now but there's no sighting of him, so perhaps it's possible to retain privacy.

I don't think Hanyu will leave BOrser & Co until he retires.

How is the paparazzi problem in Japan...

I just guessed that when he is in Sendai he doesn´t go out much

I believe he had some sort of clear braces in the past which probably contributed to the apparent lisp. His front teeth were more pronounced when he was younger.

Pretty crazy. I don’t think Yuzuru would be able to train effectively in Japan, honestly. Way too much media and fan attention. And I think training out of the country allows him to escape some of the pressure of carrying/embodying a nation on the world stage, nevermind allow him enough privacy to keep his programs from being leaked before they’re performed. TCC seems to have a very good media blackout zone and general protection for their skaters. Nothing is ever perfect or 100% leakproof, but he definitely has far more privacy there than he would training full-time in Japan.

Realistically speaking, there is no good facility and environment for Yuzuru to train in Japan. One of the reasons he went to Canada was the amazing facility including multiple ice rinks, but if he chose to come back to Sendai, he would have to practice at mid night again. After PC Olympics, he and other medalists visited one of the governmental agencies, and Yuzuru asked them to consider increasing the number of the ice rink for the future skaters.

Also about Mao, she has also been chased by paparazzi (sorry for her), but she has a car so maybe it makes the difference from Yuzuru's case
