Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I just saw that the dates and location for the Challenger Series is now posted on ISU
https://www.isu.org/news/80-inside-...-decision-of-the-isu-council?templateParam=15

So I guess we'll probably see Yuzu competing on Sept 20-22 at ACI? If not, then Finlandia on Oct 4-7?

And wow my country is hosting the first event!! :eeking:

It certainly is convenient for Team Cricket skaters, especially this year, which is quite close to Toronto (insert 401 joke here). I'm not sure we'll know for sure until maybe August whether or not he's been entered.

I'm going to have to be ready to buy tickets fast, since last year the all-event passes sold out in less than 15 minutes.

And if there are no reserved seats that means getting in line very early. Last year in QU I heard people even tried to camp out?

and it seems arena is tiny at Oakville

Way to impress at one’s world debut, don’t you think? ;)

This talk made me go back to watch his performance in Nice... my heart goes *thud* every time I see that freak fall :’( But somehow it makes that program all the more emotional and memorable... and also Nanami’s tears T.T

If you increase the volume up to maximum these clips will show you a pale idea of what really happened that afternoon , Yuzu literally brought down the house, it was a wild storm no one expected, the emotional level was almost umbereable, many people in the audience were in tears, I felt like I was suddenly surrounded and taken away by a massive and mysterious energy.

Not less Yuzu had the highest FS TES of the competition (91.99).
That was the way legendary Romeo debuted in senior worlds , that was Nanami's ultimate brilliant legacy.

Good luck to you! I guess you just need to make sure you have great internet connection when you get your tickets online and jump on it as soon as they are available for sale ;)
And if you'll need to camp out... do take care! How early do they get to the venue to camp out? For concerts in my country fans would start to camp out the evening before... I hope it's not that bad...

And even the medal ceremony on youtube shows how totally the audience were in love with brilliant baby Yuzu....

During the medal cerimony Yuzu being Yuzu and jumping of joy like a crazy , so spontaneous and sweet , happy he hasn't changed at all

Congratulations!! :cheer: I hope we'll have the livestream!

I do hope so! May be at least a facebook live, perhaps? If it works with my schedule, I might go watch. I wonder who will skate there, the competition is early in August - do you know around when will we have the line up?

I'm not sure if it's just because of me becoming a fs fan (thus becoming more aware of fs related activities) or not, but I'm starting to see more interest in the sport in my country and I think they are trying to do something to move it forward (iirc I believe we'll be hosting an isu meeting later on as well (?))... There seems to be more interest in the novice age range as well and my Hanyu-fan-self would like to attribute some of this to Yuzuru  The Figure & Speed Skating Association of Thailand has been sharing quite a few posts about Yuzu on their facebook page... he's the foreign skater they most frequently post about! :D

Thank you for the link. The reaction was quite something. It was particularly impressive considering he didn't have as much fans back then. There was a lot of Japanese, indeed, but they weren't there mainly for him at that point in time so the fact that he got that reaction from the crowd was wow!

This was utterly cute. I still remember the look on Patrick Chan's face when he saw noodly baby Yuzu doing his R&J1 pose jumpy and all.
He was the most adorable person ever.

And to think that with Patrick, Javi and the other older guys retiring (or partly retiring in Javi's case), the then adorable baby Yuzu will now be the "old man" of the pack!

I heard they called the police and sent out tweets begging people to leave because people were not supposed to camp, so I doubt I'd actually try it despite having a nifty sleeping bag as I think the likely lack of actual sleeping would make it miserable watching the next day. :no shake: Probably better to take the first bus that arrives that morning. I will ask the veterans of the last couple years what they did.

Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers that Yuzuru will participate and many of the other Team Cricket skaters. However, I doubt Javi will, since he could do a later Challenger event to prep for Europeans. I'll be sad not to see them together (almost certainly) on the podium :sad21:

After rewatching Nice 2012, I still cannot get over the raw passion that he emitted from the performance. Although, both artistically and technically he has had much better programs, R&J 1 just drew me in. I liked H&L and Seimei, but the loud and dramatic music fit him so well- especially as a younger skater.

Is there someone who became his fan in 2011 GPF (like I did )? He was the last skater qualified for GPF but finished in the 4th place overall with this. Love Nanami sensei's reaction and the crowd in Quebec gave him the standing ovation. (And I've just noticed now that Orser was watching Javier at the board when Yuzuru came back from the rink )

It was Nice 2012 for me.
