Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Does anyone know, why that interview with Plushy has been deleted from the Olympic Channel? Because he mentioned the 4.5 rotations from Yuzu or his potential appearance in Beijing? Or did he say something crucial regarding the Russian ladies?

I listened to it all and it didn’t sound controversial. Unless the part about him betting with his wife whether Alina or Zhenya would win. But even then he was supportive of Zhenya. It could haave been because of the part where he mentioned his son, because of the scandal a few months back...
But regarding Yuzu, he just showered him with praise, saying he is the best, from another planet, that he can land the 4A and aim for 2022.

I miss it, what did he said?

Uh... I can't remember his exact words anymore, but that was the rough content:

He praised the jump evolution and said something like: "I've seen (almost?) 4.5 revolutions - the 4A - from Yuzu already."
He can imagine that Yuzu will compete in Beijing 2022 and can win. "He's crazy, from another planet."
He also noted Yuzu's total package (jumps, spins, choreo,...). That's why he's Plush's no. 1. "There are good jumpers, but their choreos are not so good, they can't thrill the crowd." (pls correct me, if I'm not accurate here).

About Russian ladies he said that he's impressed by the quad evolution and 3A, mentioned Trusova and Shcherbakova in specific.
At OWG18 he bet with bis wife, who will win the ladies' event. She bet on Medvedeva, he saw Zagitova and said 'she will win', one of Eteri's girls will win.
At the end he talked about the tension with Yagudin and that two top skaters should be splitted up. If Zhenya thinks that Canada is good for her, the should go. She'll still "compete for Russia, my country."

That's all, I can remember. If you note any mistakes, pls correct me :)

Also, I checked and no Plushenko wasn't the only one doing quads in Vancouver. Evan was just able to win despite not having one: http://www.isuresults.com/results/owg2010/owg10_Men_FS_Scores.pdf - and looking at this, Lambiel tried for more quads. Plushy should have done a second toe instead of a 2A like he was able to do in the prior Olys.

And for the Beijing talk, I just think Plushy is being enthusiastic. He probably sees a lot of himself in Yuzu when it comes to competitive drive and let's not forget they are the same ages for their Olympic cycles. Plushy was 19 in 2002 (OSM), 23 in 2006 (OGM), 27 in 2010 (OSM), 31 in 2014 (Team Gold, but could have had a singles OBM with no team event if he got anything close to his team score).
Ah, thx! Forgot about his comment on Vancouver. I was irritated, too, and thought he meant that the 4T was the only quad back then. There were other quad jumpers than him, of course :p

And yes, I interpret his praise as enthusiasm, too. Nothing wrong with that. Yuzu doesn't have to do anything. He's free to chose.

Just to add bits of info to what has already been mention.

Re his son, I think he mentioned about how he does 2-3 practices a day?

I doubt the problem, if there’s actually any, came from Yuzu’s part.

I love them.

Still FoI has a lot of budget for production.

Live artist, top international skaters. Different outfits for different dates, and since I´m not sure Yuzuru would ever wear the Gundam costume again wonder if they pay for it or Yuzuru does...

He talked about Yuzu's completeness as a skater and how he is the best and how he is his favorite. He loves Yuzu's jumps (in terms of great quality), spins, choreography. He mentioned how other skaters may just have the jumps but not the choreography. He also mentioned the evolution of quads and how in Vancouver he was the only one that did one (though I'm pretty sure Daisuke went for it but he might have fallen) but guys are jumping them all now, like Chen. He thinks Yuzu can do the 4a and knows he was working on it before PC. He thinks Yuzu is from another planet and thinks he could be in Beijing and possibly win it. But he at least thinks Yuzu is going to strive for it. Did I miss anything?

Plushenko was the only one who landed perfectly in quad in both short and long program.

I'm pretty sure he is still specifically hung up on losing to someone that didn't do a quad. I seriously think he is never going to really get over it :slink:.

Kovtun was the third who bet with them. Kovtun's bet was Med, too.

On another note, while we’re here discussing the content, the video being taken down might not even have anything to to with the interview content. They might’ve simply forgot to add a logo or graphic or smthing

Good point :laugh2:

I'd like to campaign for everyone to come out in their training clothes instead!

Given how pretty much every fan adores he looks in his under armour (and there are about 308628965 videos online about this very thing) and the rest scrub up pretty well too (Stephane! Javi!!) I doubt people would complain. We have to be fair though, the FOI outfits are for a Japanese audience and don't pretend cater for western sensibilities; we need to wait and see. And we can console ourselves with the Heroes and Legends shows where we got the H&L stunner and the lovely sparkly white shirt.

(And to be even more fair, the very first of the FOI ones this time - the black/white shaded one with one sleeve - I've decided I adore, so maybe there'll be something else in this one for me too!)

Thank you all for posting about Plushenko's video because I missed it, too :drama: I hope it will come back to the channel!

And about new costume in OP from Kobe, I can imagine myself saying again, "It looks better in motion." I am guessing to see one of the famous songs of Princess Princess as opening number, I wonder what it will be.

Maybe this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjKxtLEdEOA

or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doY90Hf4pdI

And someone is going to skate to this.

I read "Quadruple Axel" today, and there was Shirota's interview but didn't have very new information since it was review of PC Olympics. Shirota went to TCC in the beginning of January, a week after Yuzuru started practicing on ice. Then, she was thinking about telling him not to do PC Olympics if he was not ready for the gold medal. But soon after she saw him training on the ice, she got excited. He was only doing single and double jump, and 3T, but their axis was steady and she was convinced that he could go for the gold medal. She could not help but smile at his comment "I want to land 4A" after the game, and also noticed the difference in his comments from those made at Sochi Olympics, such as "I want to enjoy from now on", which he didn't say after Sochi. She thinks if he will try to land 4A, he can't have an off year, but she appreciates if the fans will wait for some time to see healthy Yuzuru again (I forgot to read when this interview was taken...). Lastly, she said the gold medal of PC is Yuzuru's, but a half of it is his mother's. She thanked and praised contribution and dedication of his family, especially his mother.

I also read "Sportiva" There was interview of Nobuhiko Yoshioka, he said it was not surprising if Yuzuru landed 4A in this season if all conditions were met, but it would need some time for him to do it actually in the flow of the program.

Please note that these are not literal translation and I just post what I remember :)

Yude thank you for this.
It seems like until 4A Yuzu won't be taking any year off's.
My heart is going tokidoki ^^
