Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I wanted to comment right away, but the site got slow and I went to sleep instead.
I share the opinion that 94 for his first GP is a good solid start. -And higher than what I was expecting as it's still so early in the season. I'm so happy to see clips of practice and and cool-down, and I like the new costume a lot.

What might we expect for the FS? I hope he can at least rotate his 4Lz here, and not pop it, so he feels he can build on that confidence in the future.

I have a bet going with a family member about the outcome of COR. Looking at his previous seasons, I've bet that Yuzu will take silver here, and my sister is betting he will break the cycle and take gold. The loser will need to buy us a ramen meal from a shop that's about to open down the way. --This hedging of my bets is really working for my anxiety. Win or lose, I get to eat ramen! I'd be happiest if I lose my bet though.

Count me on your sister's side Interspectator, he is going to win :agree: But why the winner is going to buy ramen, isn't it supposed to be the looser that should pay?

Yes, so if I lose my bet, and Yuzu wins, I will pay for the ramen...and be super happy to do it. EDIT: Oh, I see, I mistyped. You're right. if I lose the bet, I buy the ramen.

Yuzuru said he had 5 minutes more so he would answer the media's questions, and he collected their voice recorders by himself. About FS, he said that everyone expected him for 4Lz and he himself would spend time expecting to land it and have clean performance, he wanted to do his best and be greedy for winning.

just watched the run-through. If my memory is right, Yuzu did 4lzturnout 4lo-fall 3F-slightly low knee // 4T-3T, 4S-lo-3S, 4T hand down, 3A-2T-tano 3A
Not too bad.

3A, 4S, 4T, 4T1Lo3S, 4Lo, 4Lz(over turn), 4Lz(hang on), 2Lo, 1Lz, 1Lz, 3Lz(?), 4Lz(fall), 3A, 4S3T, 4T(hang on)1Lo, 4Lo(beautiful), 1Lz, 4Lz(hang on)

He jumped a lot! And this auntie starts worrying about his knee :shock2: I hope he won't overtrain before NHK.

I watched it, too, and I think he did 4S3T and 4T1Lo3S. He rotated 4Lz, good for him!

well, he pushed himself in practice really hard so I don't expect good program today

Somehow I have to think of the B.Esp guy's comment at WC2017:
All the frustration he must have felt in warm up, when it just wasn't going well - to come out and produce like that!
Okay, COR is neither WC nor Olympics, so his attitude might be slightly different today, but who knows... ;)

Btw: found a very interesting photo on twitter:

1) Recycling marathon completed with Notte Stellata  (didn't expect anything else tbh.)
2) Layout with 4Lz, 4Lo, 3A (no surprise)
3) Nathan escalating with layout changes

I don't expect a good FS today but then I never have. This is why I am really miffed about yesterday; Chopin was supposed to be the steady base to keep the perception of stability going while he gets the 4Lz steady, and the 5 quads, and that entire complex FS stable.

I know all the arguments of first GP, oh it's higher than it ever was and nope, don't buy any of it. It's a different ball game this season. It kind of actually already was last season but not to the extent of this one. The young pretenders have fully come into their own now and are coming at full speed, the whole inconsistency narrative is nicely chugging along, so he cannot afford to do what he did yesterday with the short. Especially not when he's facing off his #1 opponent this season. Season that is an Olympic season, which as we all know is something entirely else.

Anyway, hopefully he can land the 4Lz today, that's what really matters but on the other hand, botching the SP as he did, depending on how the FS goes, the stress and pressure for NHK is going to be through the roof. Brian will have his hands full.

Well, has he skated clean this GP sp , narratives would have been: "he is peaking too early, he will be maxed out by gpf" and all ... Years of following Yuzuru taught me to a good thing , whatever he does: records, back to back clean competitions, even 8 quads in LP ..he will never be able to please certain reporters .....I am not worried at all, its his best condition on practices I have ever seen in his entire career in late October. Even if he is beaten by Nathan here or beats him we will never escape drama of upcoming season and hyping Nate from NA media. Coz journalists are hungry for drama and suspense . He should follow his own path and keep calm , do his job. Its true , Yuzu's latest l clean competition was gpf 15 but who else performed clean competition from top men since then?! the problem is they always put expectations higher when its about Yuzuru. So once he makes mistakes they are all oversensitive ...

handomi
: I dont think he was jumping too much today.. he needs to build up, its just beginning of season imo.. I don't expect miracle but my bets are 280-290 total today, which will be great result of his early season competition and he has never hit such score before.

Yuzu was fine in practice, him jumping a lot looks way different. He took his breaks in between and laughed/smiled quite often at his mistakes. Dunno what to expect from the LP in competition, but he did the right thing in training IMO.

Now the news about him doing Swan as EX :palmf:
I was really hoping for something new at least for the Gala, or for him to bring back something older like Etude/R&J. This is so disappointing .______.
