Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

LOL. Did Yuzu say in that clip at the end " you know, this is otherwise, Canada." that's funny. Different place, same result, haha.

Yeah, it was funny....he was thinking the same thing... the first gp result is just like always in Canada, haha... and Brian replies, "see?" maybe they've discussed whether it's a Canada curse or a 1st gp curse...

What did yuzu and brian say about the banner and the last part when they said you know..you know..? I can't quite catch it..

I listened to him again and again, but I couldn't catch it either  Probably Orser knows Yuzuru's English better than me

I love the costume because it is more loyal to the traditional design and I'm a 100% tradition person
I'm so jealous of you Interspectator for the Ramen. I have never been to Japan, and I'd love to be, but I think the taste of food there should be so different from Japanese food that we are eating in north America.
Yeah the food in Japan tastes 1000x better. I don't even bother eating sushi when I get home. I mean you can get the good stuff but it's usually at expensive places. There is a really good ramen place near my job, but I have to shell out $15 for it. In Japan it'd be like $5.

What did yuzu and brian say about the banner and the last part when they said you know..you know..? I can't quite catch it..

Well from what I could read it was something like "Yuzuru! Olympic Season Big Victory" It doesn't have the actual verb so it's more implied for him to have a big victory this olympic season, I guess. Fleunt speakers feel free to correct me. I couldn't make out Yuzuru's exact words but Brian was saying it was amazing.

This has been a very interesting weekend.

On one side, I think it shows a lot of positive sides of his picked strategy - Chopin has a lot of baggage, and is definitely not thought of as stale or old or whatever by the judges. Even with massive mistakes, he scored well. Had he skated better, he would have had a good cushion for the free and would have won even with the less than perfect free. So essentially - a stable SP is an excellent base to give him the breathing room to catch up with the very complex FS, and to give it time to stabilize as well, while he is producing good results.

On the other, Chopin has a lot of baggage indeed, and that baggage can swing the other way around too. This is the risk of assuming such a strategy. He cannot afford another repetition of yesterday. He lost to Nathan, arguably his biggest rival for the OGM, which is not good at all but at least it was the first GP and it isn't the end of the world. But at NHK he cannot let that happen.
Now personally, I'd actually dump the 4Lo. Go up to the 4Lz or go down to the 4S and I think it'll be better but either way, I am sure they'll think all of this through.

I think the only real potential negative here is that it will increase the pressure for NHK though I am sure Brian & co will be able to handle this now, especially considering the history and how improved their relationship is.

Anyway, yay for the 4Lz, may it be glorious this season. That height! And holy knee band, well done for landing that one.

Also, I hope somebody says a few kind words to the girl who got so much flack for being a human being and experiencing emotions. But I guess the world is cruel and it's easy to mock. Hopefully she'll experience a lot of joy with the rest of us very soon, in a few weeks.

He says that he couldn't train enough :scratch2: Maybe the knee problem bothered him some weeks after ACI and he limited his training...

No, it's just his standard 'I need to train more' thing, not in the sense that he couldn't train due to injury.

It's unbelievable for me what CBC pulled there. I met that Chinese Fan waiting in line - her costume was so detailed & beautiful, and she seemed shy but really nice. She already 'explained herself' in weibo, and thankfully CBC got a lot of backlash (they only deleted the tweet with the video link though, not the video). If I see her again, I'll tell her what a mess I was in Helsinki or Barcelona, and I didn't look so pretty!

Hopefully CBC will continue to be called out. "FS doesn't have enough Fans", and then they mock those that are there. Pathetic.

Count me in as appalled by the comments I've seen about this beautiful Chinese fan in her lovely costume in tears. I hope she was just willingly sharing her experience of CoR on Weibo and didn't feel forced to "explain herself' on social media, because she didn't owe anyone any explanation. It's sad to think that other skating fans felt the need to belittle her honest reaction.

Putting that ugliness aside, I think this competition went fairly well in terms of building toward the season. As he performed Seimei I began to see a vision of Yuzu's ideal skate take shape. I can see what he's capable of and I'm confident that he'll be able to skate it cleanly and to his own satisfaction this season. Congratulations as well on the lutz, the landing wasn't ideal but the height, distance, and short set up time were so impressive! I made a bet with a friend of mine last season that he'd include the lutz this season, so I won myself $10 (which I gave back, I was just happy he landed it and decided to do it). Overall, I think a lot of positives came out of this silver medal and competition that he can use toward NHK.

One comment on training, after ACI I was worried that he had less than a month to prepare for CoR after having to limit training due to the right knee pain he felt before. All things considered, he actually seemed physically well trained, but perhaps didn't have enough time to put in enough quality training for the loop prior to this competition. I think if we give him another two weeks or so he'll get it back under wraps and we'll see more of Yuzu's usual quality on the jumps.

As for ramen, I love it :luv17: garlic tonkotsu being my favorite (love the black garlic oil). There are a couple of decent spots in my area, but I do love Santouka from Japan which actually has a few shops in the US. I almost always go anytime there's one in the area when I travel as well. In Helsinki and at ACI I had my fair share of instant cup ramen as food late night can be scarce. I had Taiwanese hot pot the other night and I always get the extra instant ramen to put in the pot.

Just saw this from IG, so cute
Despite the boy might be a bit annoying on the ice, is ok to have this overload of cuteness happen at the backstage.
Yuzu looks very happy that he landed the 4lz as well.

Yuzuru: I'm not good at the first competition~! Well, I landed 4Lz, so please forgive me.

Man: Indeed, it was a nice Lz.

Yuzuru: Thank you.

Yuzuru: Thank you, only Lz was exciting, wasn't it? (laugh)

You don't have to apologize, skate for yourself, Yuzuru:)

I'd like to mention that in TV Asahi broadcast, Shuzo Matsuoka said there were not only Japanese fans but also Chinese, Russian, and the fans from all over the world in the venue, he knew international fans always watched Japanese TV coverage, and some of them even talked to him there :)

Super random question but does anyone know if they sell the jackets the Japanese skaters wear online? I know Team USA sells them but I don't know about Japan. Thank you in advance.

On the whole very positive comments from everyone. Impressed with the 4Lz and being able to land it in competition. And they are finally getting the hang of Yuzu getting 2nd in his first GP events. Took a while but they got it now and are not panicked!

I don't think they sell them, it would be nice if they do. Lots of fans will wear the same jackets and watched the competition in the seats of arena

Yeah, I'm surprised that the media are mostly positive compared to what they had said in the past seasons :taunt: 4Lz's super power!!
