Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I'm a bit late to the party, but congrats to Yuzu for silver medal. He won the free skate, and he's on track for the GP final. Not his best performances here, but that's not surprising given past seasons! It's also not the time to be "peaking" anyway...

His first 4Lz in competition was a great achievement - scary axis and landing, but he managed it and that will surely give him self-confidence, "belief" and a psychological boost: he's over the 4Lz "first hurdle", and now he can work on "improving" it as the season goes on.

They didn't exactly go "on and on" about Shoma, and some comparison is inevitable anyway since Shoma is Yuzuru's top domestic rival... but the implication of Mark's comments seemed to be, that Yuzu only beats Shoma in PCS because he is reigning Olympic champion ie. just because of reputation - and personally, I don't agree with that. I mean, perhaps that is a factor occasionally - but I think there are more reasons than that for Yuzu earning higher PCS...!

Somehow this breaking news completely escaped me among the huge number of posts :laugh: But after the big recycling-race this season I didn't expect him to retire tbh. Especially if he wins Olympics, there will be far less pressure on him and he can skate at his very best.

Here is a small checklist of unfinished business in Yuzuru Hanyu's skating career:

1. 4A, 4F, quad-quad-combo, tano/ribbon-quad, quintuple-madness (okay, forget the last one :laugh2:)
2. Victory in the first GP-event/ Gold in all 6 GPs
3. 4CC-gold medal (maybe you can erease this point in early 2018)
4. Completely clean season
5. Clean LGC-programme (an absolute must :laugh:)
6. New and eternal world records under the modified ISU rules
7. Maximum score in TES for a specific layout (will be tough with the new GOE-range of +/-5 but... you never know :laugh:)
8. Maximum PCS in SP/FS
9. New freaky programmes (I'm still praying for MiB SP :cool::yahoo:)
10. Creating a social media account (wouldn't be resentful, if he didn't, though.)
11. Pair skating with Javi (First side-by-side-4S+3T and 4T, first throw-4A... :rofl:)

Don't take that list too serious, folks :laugh:
 
First post in this fanfest! The fluff won me over. He is just tooo cute with the golden thingy >///< and the lift for the photo, omg!

Also if he's going to skate the Swan as he did here, I'm glad he kept it! I mean, I'm a bit sad we don't get to see another beautiful skate of his, but wow. Just wow. I was almost teary eyed at the final pose. It was mesmerizing. I already loved the program the first time I saw it, but idk, now it was even better. That delayed axel was JUST TOO BEAUTIFUL.
Gosh . He's just so elegant as a Swan I can't even >///<
I'm a bad, bad, bad fan because I enjoy more his exhibitions than his competitive programs because I'm not as anxious about the jumps... but of course gratz on that super 4Lz, and let's hope it gets even better for the Olympics!! As I have no doubts he will!
I want to see him doing that 4 axel next season but I doubt I will be able to handle it live!!

Welcome to the fan fest and I hope you post often! The Gala was full of beauty and fun from so many skaters, and especially Yuzu. :points:

I think, everyone of us has his or her little babies to protect and well - Yuzu has his quads. If they're naughty, they need a serious talk with their daddy. At times :p

"My objective is to execute my jumps so that no matter who is watching they look like a GOE 3." quite ambitious, but good attitude :agree:
 
LOL, I imagine him comparing persons to jumps and skate movements.
Dream case scenario:
[Yuzuru and X, alone at night]
YUZURU (whispering): "You're my 4A. You were so difficult to get, but so rewarding"

Or to his family: you're like backwards crossovers, you always help me gain speed

Just... LOL

Sorry to get back to this from so far back in the thread, but I remembered that I forgot to answer to that - not sure why that's even here, but I'd just like to tell everyone that spending time on the German commentators is nothing but a waste. They rarely seem to know what they are talking about (examples from here: "4Lz is planned, therefor he'd have to cut out a 3A" - simply wrong; "Hanyu would never go for 5 quads" - ditto), get jumps or technical aspects wrong all the time (I think I heard them wonder about a low score caused by zayak errors 3 times now, and they never learn; when skater deviate from the planned content they sometimes don't even notice), and while sometimes really nice, they can be downright ridiculous at times (once when Kanako Murakami had a LP with a 1A and a step out, otherwise clean, they lamented how she should feel very ashamed for being invited to a GP in the first place). They also sometimes manage to be kind of not offensive, but I don't think anyone will get anything good out of that (outside of some probably loving the fact that they're insinuating here that Yuzu was kind of a chronic underrotator). Point is, just don't take them seriously - they're probably not as flat out biased as the B.ESP guys (wasn't there a time Chris - teaching Shoma in skating skills - complained during commentary about his SS being underrated? :laugh: ), but they're just not good :shrug:

Edit: and in case I need to explain why this bucks me so much - I'm German, and I'm always embarrassed when they are brought up :palmf:

His 4Lz's height was apparently higher than Boyang's 4Lz at Worlds 2017, and flight time slightly longer, but Boyang still has more distance.
