Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Oh gosh! I'm at work dying inside with any little update 😧 please I hope it's nothing serious, he knows how to fall not to get hurt🙏

I agree that he’s handling this much better than back when he was much more stubborn a few years ago. The fact that he avoided doing any jump when he returned to practice is an exemple of that. Not showing up at the press conf in order to stay and get proper medical treatment is also smart. Of course, I’m worrying, but I’d rather not panic and believe he’s being very careful.

Yes to this! And he did do spins in practice and they said he didn't look in pain, I think he's being smart and careful, especially considering the fact that it's Olympic season. Hopefully he'll be okay to skate tomorrow - maybe he'll take 4lz out to make sure not to stress his ankle

I don’t think I’ve ever posted in this thread, but I love Yuzuru and was so upset to hear about his fall. I really hope it’s nothing serious and that he’s still able to compete - wishing him all the best at NHK!

I try my best to stay positive and not feeling too nervous about the news.
Hopefully, we will hear a good news tomorrow! :sad4::pray:

I think he will be fine after seeing video Propably just pain from very hard fall, but doesn't look like serious injuiry or something

Welcome to the Yuzu FF! :hap10:

_____________

Regarding the question if Yuzu will compete or not - personally, I'm pretty sure he will. There were reports of ankle or leg injury/problems, but nothing seems to be really confirmed. But from what we heard he didn't seem to have visited a hospital but got the treatment in his hotel room. I'd think if it was anything that serious, that would have went differently. And given how often he practices his jumps, I doubt these kind of falls are that uncommon that Yuzu & team wouldn't know how to handle it. Not sure with what layout he will show up, but I'd personally be surprised if he WDs. There is a bit too much panicing & sensationalizing about this around for my taste to be honest, I think it's good Yuzu is focusing on himself right now and not on giving answers to others he might not have himself yet, even if it means we have to wait longer for news. I hope he handles this as well as he can, and he has visibly matured a lot in the last years, so I trust he will. All the best Yuzu!

I’d be surprised if he withdraws too.

I’m hoping this is just a bit of sensationalism on our and the media’s part because he didn’t show up for morning practice before the fall in the afternoon so fans were already feeling nervous for news. I do think it was reassuring that he came back on the ice even if he didn’t do jumps during RT. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t wonder if he was going to need some painkillers in order to compete, I don’t think it would be the first time an athlete has needed to do that. At best I hope a good nights rest and some medical attention has been all he needs.

Honestly, although he has grown up a lot since then, if Yuzuru skated after that awful crash at the 2015 Cup of China, I really have a hard time believing an ankle injury would keep him out unless it was broken, which it clearly wasn't. I just hope he keeps the layout reasonable so he doesn't worsen anything heading towards the GPF and the Olympics. Health and luck Yuzu, gambatte!!

The good thing is that, if he does compete he’ll have some weeks to take it easy before the Final and Nationals :)

I'm really nervous today. I couldn't concentrate at all at work :sad21:
Sadly, I skated and I know how painful are these falls... it could be nothing but the pain is horrible, and he's doing quads. But I trust him and his team, they know what to do. They wouldn't jeopardize the next competions if he's not healthy enough.
So I guess we'll get some news by the time of the next practice, at 4am for me. :palmf: Please skating gods, take care of Yuzu!

Having attended Helsinki worlds in person, Uno and Hanyu took some epic falls during practice.

I guess that comes with the territory when attempting quadruple jumps. It looked like the key to avoiding injury was knowing when a jump wasn't going to work and making sure not to stiffen up.

Most of the time, they would simply shrug and get on with it, snowflakes crusting their backs and all.

Worried Hanyu will withdrawal like kohei Uchimura did at 2017 World gymnastics Championships. Praying that he's Ok! Figure Skating is bad for my health. I'm pulling another all nighter to watch NHK.

Just a gut feeling but he'll be fine. It's not as if they've never dealt with injury before, it's the reality of the sport.

As fans we all need to have more faith, in him and his team. They will make the best decision.

Go Hanyu!!

Yuzuru hurt his right knee and ankle, he didn't go to be hospital but did get the treatment (icing etc.) from his team doctor. He wants to compete and if his leg is not swollen, he will participate in the practice and decide whether he will compete today.

Good morning, guys! It's 5:30am in Japan and morning newspapers are coming. I hope he is fine

Hoping he's fine and doing much better, I'll support whatever decision ends up being made but I'll have confidence it's the right decision.

Thank you for the news! (wow, up so early!)
I hope he doesn't do anything to aggravate it. Even if he kept only 1 quad T or S in the SP and 1 in the LP, he'd still be able to podium and reach GPF, no? I really hope he doesn't overdo it if he does compete...

Wow you are up early! Don't stress yourself out too much, okay? That won't make any news come earlier!

Hopefully his knee & ankle will be okay and he will be able to compete (let's not kid ourselves, losing the chance to make the GPF would be big for him), reduce the layout to something his body can handle, places well enough for GPF and then gets home, rests well and heals up quickly. Or anything else that ends with a happy and smily Yuzu. Keeping all my fingers crossed while I go to bed and hope for good news in the morning!
