Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

What worries me, is if he is not properly fit, but he competes anyway :-/

He's a bit more sensible these days, but still - I think he probably wants to reach the GP final, and win it. Partly because IMO that's the kind of competitor he is, but I'm also betting he will want to go to PyeongChang not only as the reigning Olympic and World champion, but if possible - also as the reigning GP champion, national champion and holder of all 3 world records ie. Aim for total domination! But no NHK = no GP final...

I also think he hates to disappoint his fans. Getting a ticket to NHK (or any major competition in Japan!) is like finding one of Willy Wonka's Golden Tickets in a chocolate bar. And for many fans, if Yuzu has to withdraw... well of course they prefer he does what's best for his health... but still, it's like the Chocolate Factory burned down... and he knows that.

Well. With any luck he's fine anyway, and nothing serious at all...

My heart literally stopped when I read the Japanese headlines in my sleepy stupor hours ago...had to re-read to make sure I wasn't getting it wrong.

Like many have said here we can imagine him really wanting to compete here in NHK...ticket to GPF, which happens to be hold in Japan, before the Olympics no less. I think not only does he not want to disappoint his fans and media attention, he himself thrives in the anticipation that others have for him and cherish living in those moments. You just know that there will always be some people who end up saying oh, he should have put the prize money on the Olympics and rest and not take a chance...but ultimately it is his decision.

I can't imagine being his mom my heart would be crying all the time! Sending positive energy to Osaka!

Indeed!

I like your metaphor and it is exactly what it is.

If he's going for it he need to go with a single quad layout...if even that. Don't push it. The main point of this competition is to quality for GPF, not win.

The more time passes the uneasier I get. I wonder if the team is trying to convince him to WD...
