Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I have never thought about that, but actually I like that idea... :slink: (but it is unlikely to happen? I don't know...)

The team event is so unnecessary. But skipping it, idk. At Sochi it really helped Yuzuru. Different circumstances, but perhaps he wants to be in the team event?

I think its way better than going to nationals not fully healed and aggravate injury like Daisuke, he was partly healed by Nationals but after that it got worse and by Olys he was in horrible state. That was one of the irrational decisions for JSF, he placed off podium and was still chosen, same is with Yuzu goes or does not go he will be still chosen for Oly team, so it makes zero sense to make him attend if he is not healed. They might pay for it very dearly. So I think in this case better be fully healed by Fab than to risk it and go to nationals. Japan will not medal in team even if Yuzuru and Shoma get wr scores there, so better pay attention to individual event and try to bring him at his best condition for that.

A sprained ankle the whole world witnessed, that initially required a couple of weeks out of training, is becoming a never ending injury….
Oh well, based on Yuzu’s Ice Jewels Special Interview ,I think from now on I will ONLY believe Yuzu’s spoken words in front of a camera and his non verbal communication and body language, obviously before any JSF statements and not after  .
Will they show him or will they keep him hidden ? we will see …remember Yuzu's words, he's actually facing his nightmare .

How many months was Yuzu off ice during his left foot injury? Then after that how long before competition?

His previous right ankle and knee injury in 2013 he was off ice for 1 month ?

They could invite Yuzuru to Europeans.... j/k

I wonder if he and Javier could make a 'pretend' competition or something in Toronto. But then I think Javier probably won't do that as he's concentrating on himself. (And rightly so)

2013 was 1 month
2016 -3 months (April , May, June- got back on ice in late June begin doing just single jumps, then doubles was ok by season start)

But 2016 injury was in a different league I think this one is more of 2013 when he needed to stay off ice 1 month or a bit more.

In 2014 Daisuke was allowed not to skate at Team Event, Yuzu skated SP and Machida skated FS. So I think there is a chance. Keiji can skate SP and Shoma LP.

You're right and gave me hope! Kanako also skated in 4CC before Sochi Olympics and didn't participate in team event if I'm not wrong (although the situation was different). I think it is going to be good opportunity for him to test both SP and LP in 4CC if he skips JN.

I checked the date of 4CC and the Olympics.

Men's SP 4CC-- January 25
Men's FS 4CC-- January 27
Men's SP Olympics-- February 16

So there are almost 3 weeks between 4CC and the Olympics, and both competitions are held in Asia. I wonder when JSF announces the participants for 4CC, was it right after the nationals every year?

By the way, TV asahi aired Yuzuru's swan as "Exhibition of the year of 2017" during their Gala broadcast. They also showed Evgenia's "sailormoon". They are missed clearly.

If Yuzu skip the team event, Shoma will skate the SP right?
Coz only the top 5 team will qualify for the free, no way JSF will choose the 3rd Jpn men to skate in the SP.
Unfortunately, the 3rd Jpn men(be Keiji, Mura or Dice) scoring potential are far below both Yuzu's and Shoma's. I doubt JSF will let them skate the free.
So there are only two options left, 1.) Shoma will skate both programs(I highly doupt he'll agree) 2.) forced Yuzu to skate the SP and make the chance of him competing at 4CC smaller.

From Jackie Wong's twitter:

Latest Yuzuru Hanyu 羽生結弦 news: JSF revealed that Hanyu has not resumed training because of soreness in his right knee; it's been 4 1/2 weeks since his injury and under 2 weeks until Japan Nationals

I think he meant ankle and not knee?

This is not good :\ I would rather he just skipped Nats rather than risk to injure himself further. I know it will be really problematic to go to the OG without any previous competitions though.

From Ambesi's twitter

Today JSF official said #YuzuruHanyu still feels pain in his ankle and not yet returned to on-ice training. According JSF, Hanyu two days ago said: "Things have improved a lot, but there's pain. I haven't practiced on ice yet but I'm working hard on treatment and rehabilitation"

Maybe Jackie just got his wires crossed from ACI when Yuzu had limited training due to his right knee.

Unfortunate news indeed but I am trying to tell myself that it's better than he saying " I still feel pain but since it's the Olys I am training anyway". His body first.

Usually they do announce world team / 4cc team/ Oly team right after the Nationals.

Personally I don't think he'll be at Nationals and I think this was released so that we won't have any surprises when he officially withdraws in about a week. Similar to Med and the GPF. I think we won't see him until the Olympics. Not sure what we are going to get because the competition miles simply won't be there at that time. I'm not typically an optimist. At this point whatever happens is what was meant to happen.

Agreed. It gives me hope that he broke a WR at Autumn Classic and it was his very first competition of the season. With Yuzu, anything is possible. Stay strong Yuzu!!

If Yuzu WD from nationals it could mean nearly a 4 month break of any skating footage we have of him :sad21: We only got the small snippet at NHK Trophy so the last time we saw him skating was at Rostelecom. That 4 month time period is as long as the unbearable 2016 Summer of Zero News, I'm not sure how I'll be able to cope with that again.

I knooow. I'm scrambling around for other things to do during the Christmas break, I usually binge watch all of Yuzu's performances of the year, but this year we won't have many. Well, I'll play board games with family and paint I guess. :(

I know, no one and nothing can replace Yuzuru's absent in my heart, but I'll try to enjoy Christmas and New years holidays (I have to survive in Japanese ladies' nationals :drama:), and maybe I'm going to do something like "Danshari" in my spare time. Hope time will fly!
