Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

How's he getting along in practices, do we know? He missed so much of valuable experience during the season, I hope he can defend his gold. :(

I don't know anything. Honestly it's not looking good I mean at the best he can get on the podium but I don't think he's going to be able to defend his gold medal. I mean let's be realistic he hasn't had a competition since cup of Russia so the odds of him going out and winning are very slim. Plus he lacks the momentum and I'm saying this as a Hanyu fan.

also can I add that I don't think there's anything wrong with having your own opinions as to what's going to happen come the Olympics. BUT I don't think it's necessary to make a statement that will lead to fear mongering in Yuzuru's own fan fest

Sure, it's gonna be hard. But! Friendly reminder Yuzu scored 112 in his very first outing of the season while dealing with a knee problem ;) never underestimate him

I would think it'd be H&L since those jumps were immaculate. I think I see a little green in there.

My friend's translation:
"He has it in all the jumps"
*Translator notes: She's not sure what he means by “it”. It was mid phrase*
"That’s how it’s done"
"He pulls in right away"
"Tight position"
"Look how tight, boom and he pulls in"
"Try it again"
*Translator Notes: Girls slump shoulders, skate away. They know it’s easier said than done*

Thank you so much for sharing the translation, I was wondering what he was saying! No knowing a word but I noticed that girls' reaction

And are you going to quit being a Hanyu fan if he is off the podium? Do you like him only when he skates clean?

Honestly, I don't understand all this topic about no chances for gold after skipping part of the season. Just recently Boyang returned in brilliant style and won over Shoma who has been competing the whole season. So... KEEP CALM AND BELIEVE IN YUZURU HANYU :cheer:

I found the negativity difficult to read, this. (None of us fans know anything and negativity isn’t fair!) He was injured! But he was at a level to win this thing back in the summer already. I’ve been lead to believe that he has been on the ice recovered for over a month. I have read Brian Orser gave a smile saying something like his lips are sealed. (paraphrase) Even his training partner, the fantastic Javier mentioned him and I had the impression he was probably doing exceptionally well! And. He is well rested, no small thing!
It’s not far-fetched to say he would be absolutely formidable, he is a slayer too!

Time and again, skaters have come back even stronger after an injury. It’s fact.

I think it's natural to expect the worst and hope for the best at the same time. One can be a fan, but still lose hope when there's no news. --I'm hoping for something new on the 7th, when there will be a documentary aired.

This I agree with. I think the poster wasn't trying to be negative, but realistic. I think the point of fan fest isn't just to appreciate Yuzu (or any skater), but also to come together as fans, and support each other when something like this happens, instead of pointing fingers at "negativity".

Similarly, fan fests, IMO, shouldn't be places where people mindlessly praise their favourites, but also be able to (respectfully) criticise the skaters, and voice concerns about them.

Honestly, it was still sad to see that suddenly one came to this fan thread and said clearly "I don't think he is going to win.", in this difficult time. And keep being positive or posting positive things dose not mean that we are not aware of the reality IMO. I think most of us here are, but just don't say it loud. But I agree that this place is for sharing the concerns we have, let's hope for the best :ghug:

By the way, I have been praying at the shrine every day since about a week ago. I'm not a religious person usually, so not sure if it works, but I'm doing it for my self satisfaction

 we all process our worries and hopes in our own way. Here's my recent crafts work that has a Yuzu theme. http://figureskating-in-color.tumbl...-been-getting-into-metal-working-recently-and not finished yet.

Shizuka will be in "every" this evening and it seems she is going to talk about the team event of the Olympics.

Nothing new was in the segment, she said the skaters for the team event will be announced on the day before the game, and as for Yuzuru, it will all depend on his body condition and his wish.

Meh.. those things don't worry me.

Frankly, I'm more worried about the vast weight of US commercial interests, that are piling up behind Nathan...

Exactly. No momentum is not worrying me at all, because none of top men are going with it. If any of them got a huge one like Yuzu after 2013 GPF or Zagitova now, it would have been more worrying, Top men have been mostly messy this year. Yuzu's sp score still remains as seasons best and FS score is still 3rd if we count that joke of Lombardia trophy too. All will depend on Yuzu's good mindset and mentality . And yes, US commercial interest is main thing that worries me too, They are absolutely uncontrolled recently. I just hope they will not play dirty and whatever happens may Yuzu be happy of his performances.
