Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I don't know anything. Honestly it's not looking good I mean at the best he can get on the podium but I don't think he's going to be able to defend his gold medal. I mean let's be realistic he hasn't had a competition since cup of Russia so the odds of him going out and winning are very slim. Plus he lacks the momentum and I'm saying this as a Hanyu fan.

Well, never say never. :p
Especially, we don’t have any information about him, we could believe in anything we want to believe and I chose to believe in him and wish him good health everyday

:luv17: after all this years! Another Anan!

This is the news clip about a magazine "Katei Gahou" published today, they are introducing some comments from Yuzuru's interview given in August last year.

https://twitter.com/yuzu_pino/status/958867050054656005

"Sometimes, I'm tired by being "Yuzuru Hanyu". After all, I have the ideal which is "I can skate this well and I can show you this much." And it could not be helped when I was (did) so differently from that ideal...Sometimes, I want to throw out all my positions and be shut-in."

"There is only a little time before the Olympic Games begins. The biggest rival in Pyeongchang Olympics, I think it is myself. After Sochi Olympics, the first thing I felt was that "The demon of the Olympics just lives inside of me after all." The demon I keep inside becomes restive only by the title called the Olympics...I keenly felt that. And it is only myself who can hold it down, so my worst enemy is me."

He also said that the feeling of the ice on Gangneung ice arena was very good, he felt like he would be able to go into the game naturally than he did in Sochi Olympics.

Happy February everyone! The month that I have been looking forward to 4 years ago has finally come! I made my wish to the super blood moon last night ;).

I don't own a TV so I'll be streaming most of the events, watching by myself, but nice to know there are many around the globe cheering him on the the same time!

Very nice article, a story from Kazue Chiba, a former teacher in the skating club at Nanakita Jr. High.

http://www.kahoku.co.jp/tohokunews/201802/20180201_14006.html

The skating club was created in Nanakita Jr. High in accordance with Yuzuru's admission. Yuzuru was the only member in the first year. In the third year, there were about three members including him. In the club competition relay at the sports festival, he formed a team with the students from special support class (the class for the students with disabilities) that I was in charge of. He was a child who interacted with people regardless of disability.

In the award ceremonies, he was always standing with one leg in front like in the ballet. When I asked him the reason, he said, "Figure skating is the sport the athletes are stared at, so I am always conscious (of being like this)." Because he had this attitude on a routine basis, he can perform brilliantly.

When he was in the second and third grade, he tended to be absent from school since he had many expeditions, and I was sorry for him a bit. Whether it was for avoiding the injury, he was observing many times in PE lesson which was his favorite. When I found him being by the side of the playground, I asked him to come to the support class and see my students. The name of the other homeroom teacher in the support class was the same name as Daisuke Takahashi, the Vancouver Olympic bronze medalist. Yuzuru was often joking around saying, "How should I do that step?".

Yuzuru liked figure skating endlessly. In Pyeongchang, I hope he will enjoy skating freely without feeling the pressure for the medal.

To the fellow fans who are going to Pyeongchang Olympics, please enjoy the trip :yahoo: Make sure to be safe and warm :hap10: (and please be careful not to be stolen anything like Johnny :shock2:)

Thank you! I leave tomorrow :slink: But I was actually a good girl and did the majority of my packing last night. So not much more to go!

And yeah I am actively putting my belongings in my reliable but older and less interesting looking bag.

LOL
Definitely not going to pack my stuff in LV bags.

Hearing some of you starting to pack really makes it clear to me how close the OG are... and here I was still trying to life in my happy little ignorant bubble as long as we had no news anyway, to stay away from all the anxiety! save travels for everyone going, have lots of fun and please cheer for us too!

Also, hearing that King Kohei also wants Yuzu to win is the best thing :luv17:

Uchimura spoke a bit about Yuzu he said He understands all the difficulty of recovery because he had similar injury & winning pressure that whole nation puts on you.

So glad to hear Kohei's words, I hope Yuzuru will read this article somewhere, too!!

Kohei injured his left ankle in October last year, so he indeed knows Yuzuru's pain mentally and physically. It seems when the media started asking about the Olympics, he immediately said Yuzuru's name. He said it would be the coolest thing if Yuzuru would win consecutively, and in the Olympics, the person who has the strongest mentality would win.
