Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Great to see Hanyu and all others have so much fun during practice. LOL at the speed skating competition, still as competitive as ever, he just had to go first and then splat :laugh2:

It’s been a crazy week in Korea, I come back and have to catch up all the comments here, it takes some time. But it feels good to look at everyone’s comment here, ppl here always give the most generous support to Yuzu.

It’s been an honour to see Yuzu skate at the Olympic. On the SP day, when I was waiting for his score, my chest hurt, that’s how nervous I was, it turn out to be a super close to WR score. Me and my fd went to ice cream afterward to celebrate his “come back”.

On the FP day, I was super paranoid, coz we all know, leading in the SP doesn’t mean a win, but I keep telling myself: trust him, just trust him, if he is clear, no one can top him.
Everyone at the event was so excited, the cheer were so loud after the first 4S was landed, i feel like I lose the music for 2 seconds. The landing for the 4T+REP was a bit off, but after less then 1 second, everyone cheer even harder, Yuzu always able to transform those cheer into energy. During the Step Seq, I feel like everyone in the vaune was clapping in unison (except for the girls beside me, she is a Patrick Chen fan, I don’t blame her, it takes Patrick 4 years to turn from hating Yuzu to admiring him.) I already couldnt stop crying when he finish with the SEIMEI finishing post, and cried even harder when he was roaring, as if he has won the GOLD already, coz we as his fan and skating fan, we know it is very likely it will be the case. (After learning about his injury not being heal properly at the press conference, I finally know, That’s not about the gold, that’s about him make through the toughest time in his life, and pull off the performance that he is happy about.)
I make myself stop crying and start watching Javi skate, he poped a couple of jumps, and we were so worries that his placement would not be high enough to get on the podium, the score come up, he is second to Yuzu! I lose myself completely, and too happy to have 2 of my fav skaters to be at the podium of Olympic! I cried over my knees, until the first note of Shoma’s free started to play. But I still can’t hold my tears back, and it keep flowing down. Sorry, Sho, I have to confesse, even I tried, I didn’t watch 100% of your performance, maybe 75%? I was too busy handling my tears.

Thank you Yuzu, it’s my honour to be your fan, it’s an honour to witness this era of figure skating with you being the King on ice, it’s simply amazing.

Thank you so much for your live account. What a great moment for you. --Did you eat any good Korean food? Watch any other sports?

Thank you Interspectator, I am sorry I was a bit late to post this. I was flying around after I left Pyeongchang, and finally landing where I need to be yesterday (2 days, 3 countries, crazy itinerary).

I did have some very nice food at Korea, my Korean fd take us to authentic Korean family restaurants :luv17:
I watched the figure skating team event as well, the US’s team performance at the last day of team event was so touching, esp the Shibs! I also went to the practice of ice dance & ladies, Satoko is very little, but she is very serious all the time when she was talking to her team. Her jumps are getting better and better, which is a relief.

She was wonderful yesterday in the SP. I'm envious of the fans who got to go. But you-all deserve all the happiness for the risk and long trips and money that it took to get to the Olympics.

Not sure if this epic Chinese blog article has been shared before but it is worth posting again.

Written very much in the buzz feed style, accounting why people go crazy for Hanyu in China, and break down barriers in the process.

The CCTV (Chinese equivalent to US NBC, British BBC, Canada CBC) commentator 陈滢 gave him high poetic praise from the official government channel to Japanese athletes. When you consider intercontinental politics in the region, these are pretty incredible comments... I am wondering if they will start to do 1 hour Yuzu documentary like those they used to do for Yuna.

Her poetic praises set him off on internet trends in China.

“容颜如玉,身姿如松,翩若惊鸿,婉若游龙。”
“命运对勇士低语:你无法抵御风暴。勇士低声回应:我就是风暴。”
“幸得识卿桃花面,从此阡陌多暖春。”

Translation (please someone feel free to jump in. I simplified ALOT to be English friendly)

"Facial like Jade, Figures like Bonsai, Torrent like Tsunami, Graceful as Dragons"
"Fate whispers to the warrior: You can not stop a storm. The warrior quietly replied: I AM the storm."
"Fortunate to have known peach flower, here forth the warmth of spring."

----

Some highlight, Hanyu's childhood coach Nanami Abe described him as a prodigy, but a prodigy of 'hard work'. He has to work twice as hard as others, due to his Asthema to over come. He also practices more jumps than others in his pursuit of perfection.

His nick seemed to have evolved over the years, from Happy Ox on Baidu (sounding like Ha-nyu), to simply Yuzu like the Japanese Citrus Fruit (and my fav Häagen-Dazs flav, seriously, you guys should try it. World will never be the same!)

My dream is vanished :drama: Yuzuru wants to attend the closing ceremony but he will not be a flag bearer. He says he wants to enjoy it as a member of team Japan and wants to enjoy it in quiet. (and I totally understand him)

Awww, I guess he doesn't want the attention of being the flag bearer. I hope he'll enjoy the closing though

Lol these guys are like children when they get together  In korea, they have these idol sports championships and I'm totally for these guys hosting one on ice for shtz and giggles :laugh2: I can imagine the ticket sales/ratings already ;)

Was there ever a better gala practice then this? I vote no! :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

But where is the Yuzu-Misha-Boyang 3-way Pairs spiral? :angry1:

Excuse me the double post, but this super cute butt spin deserves a link

Yuzu is really enjoying himself here in PyeongChang! This is way better than any world record!:yahoo: It feels, he laughed more over the last two weeks than in his complete senior career (and he laughed a lot)

Edit: Wouldn't it be great? These guys together at TCC? Brian's highly gifted kindergarden?

His happiness is infectious. I'm still managing the jet lag and trying to catch up on all the media (was impossible while in Korea) but I'm looking forward to catching up on posting all my pics and videos. I really did have the best time. I've only ever cried once in this sport and that was Shen and Zhao's 2003 Long program at Worlds, which I attended. And then I saw Yuzu with tears in his eyes on the jumbo tron and it really sank in that he achieved his dream and I was lucky enough to be there to witness it, and then suddenly my face was wet. I flew halfway across the planet hoping to see something like that and the odds were stacked against him, but somehow he pulled it off decisively! This trip was really difficult logistically and expensive to plan, but Yuzuru's win made everything completely worth it. The universe got something right.

Didn´t see this posted, somethings that have already been touched about still considering if he is going to attend worlds.

But I did like this final frase from him:
"I want to have fun, do things that I want to do. If people like it, that's great," he said with a laugh. "Call it enlightenment if you want--I am what I am. That's the frame of mind I'm in."
