Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I feel so too, at most he will skip GP series and come back by Nationals, I am convinced he will not miss WC in Japan and maybe he will go to 4cc as well. If he is fit enough earlier I don't think he is going to skip GPs at all..He himself talked a lot about risks taking a full year based on many skaters experience.. Judging from Shirota's interview he plans 4A already next season.they will try their best to back on track by GPs already , if he is not ready by early autumn he will make come back for Nationals .

I am really hope he could take time and heal between now to the start of GP season (7 months in between), if he is thinking about 2 new programs, he understand that he will need time and competitions to build and breed the programs throughout the season. Skater who skip the GP usually because (1) they are injured, they have no choice. (2) They are recycling previous season’s program, so they could build on something they have established in last season.

Given the fact that Yuzu has already recycled both of his programs this season, he would probably wanted at least one new program for next season. Plus I guess he would wanted his title back for GPF

Please two new programs. :pray::pray::pray:

Though if she recycles the short, I think it's likely to see a second season of LGC instead of a 4th of Chopin .

I doubt he'll want to go for a 4th season with Chopin. Didn't he want to do LGC again last season but his team advised him against it?

The fact that a third skater can't fight for his own place tells me they don't need the third spot. Not that JSF would see it that way ;)

It's frustrating, because we can understand risking the ankle for gold, but risking it for a spot seems a bit too much.
Same thought! Everyone is responsible for his own spot. If Tanaka or Mura are not able to finish 12th, they don't deserve it. Shoma has competed in nine (!) events this season. JSF couldn't complain, if he decided to skip worlds, too. He really has overachieved this season and deserves some gratitude instead of extra responsibilities. With two Olympic Gold medals Yuzu has done his best as well. It's not their task to ensure the spot for others and risk their own health.

Back to Yuzu: I could imagine him to
1. skip worlds and heal his injury while working on new programmes (maybe LGC upgrade and a new free)
2. compete at Skate Canada + NHK to prepare his programmes (without 4A) and then
3. 4A world premiere at GPF in Vancouver as a former Olympic venue.
What a fantastic birthday present that would be!! This legendary jump deserves the biggest stage and GPF suits him best anyway ;):yahoo:

#Sidenote:
2010 in Vancouver Mao Asada became the first woman to land a triple axel in an Olympic short programme. It would be so iconic, if Yuzu became the first skater to land a quad axel two cycles later in the same arena :hap93:

Well if Japan is in problems for Worlds, let´s keep a minute of silence for Spain´s places... without Javier... well

Speaking of new programs, I would love it if he did a J-rock SP. Now that he's achieved all his goals, he can really let go and have some fun with his programs :yahoo: Forget what the judges think and just do what he likes.

Speaking of the trip, I saw you and Danibellerika on TV Tokyo! They showed you were crying and throwing the Pooh, and both of you looked very excited after FS (?). People at the studio were wowed at your long trip of 16 days (am I right?).

Haha yes they actually edited my crying into the middle of the free skate, I actually didn’t cry until after results were final but I could tell they were fishing for tears so I’m not surprised by how they spliced that in (you can see my eyes are suddenly dry as I’m clapping to the choreo sequence).

And yes, we were VERY excited! I was going through my fancam video of the venue ceremony and our excitement made for some very funny and hyper conversation (especially because I was sick).

I left February 7 and landed on the 8th, and then I returned on the 22nd so it was about 15 days with the time change. I initially planned to stay until the gala so that would’ve been an even longer trip, but I made the right choice not to stay that long (although I had pretty much hit my PTO ceiling when I left) It has been a while since I had taken such a long trip, in fact the last time I did was when I also went to Japan and Korea (plus Hong Kong) around 4 years ago, so it felt like I came full circle returning to Asia.

Yeah and I was shaking right next to you. I think it was one of those cry laughs.:laugh::laugh: But either way it'd make no sense DURING the program.

Haha yes you were laughing! Remember how I specifically said that tears were for AFTER the free skate? I have learned my lesson the hard way and now I don’t relax until results are final.

Well I secretly hope he recovers well and if possible that he’ll choose to attend 4CC and the GP since we North American West Coasters finally get some international competitions on our side of the world...

Last time he competed in a Washington I wasn’t following the sport yet and missed my chance. This time 4CC is in Anaheim which I can easily fly to or even do a road trip to. Even if he doesn’t go I’ll probably go since it’s so close (and I can go to Disneyland and Universal Studios).

Very unlikely though, with how he is describing his injury I personally is getting ready to accept that he may not compete at all next season. Even if he does, with the way he over-exerted himself, and the gloomy expression he has when talks about it I don't expect him to be ready to compete for the GP next season. And I doubt he will go to 4cc, he hasn't chosen to go for years, last year was special because it took place in the Olympic arena, he wanted to get the feel of the arena first, but I doubt he will compete at 4cc again next season.

Oh trust me, I'm prepared for that too but I really don't think he'll skip Worlds next season in Japan. I'm not sure if gloomy is how I'd describe the way he talks about it, it's just very matter-of-fact which is why it's bittersweet as usually now would be the time for celebrations only. There's at least 6 months between now and the GP, if he devotes himself to recovery I hope that at least gets him back on the ice training normally by the GP start, but it sounds like he also has some show obligations to fulfill and I'm not sure how that'll work out as he is THE Olympic champ again, maybe he'll do some no-jump exhibitions. As for 4CC, I think he only chose not to go in 2015 and 2016 because of recovery from surgery and injuries, otherwise I think he would've gone every year. At least if he does choose to go to 4CC it's only a 3 hour time difference from Toronto this time, so it may make it more attractive than traveling to Asia for 4CC, then back to prep again for Worlds.

Well, let´s see.

Best scenario: 4 to 6 months off the ice: March to June /September. He could still get ready for Nationals, 4CC and Worlds.
Worst case scenario: 6 to 12 months: March to March. I guess he would do shows next to get into form.

Also it depends on how restricted he is:
-Does he can practice figures, spins, transitions, etc., and only need to stop jumping for the time.
-Or, does he have to stay away from the ice, so he will do image/ physical therapy / of ice training

If he can practice on ice training guess he can do shows, and that will keep him motivated, and his fans/ sponsors happy.
If it is off ice, and probably it will be a hard time for him. I guess we will all need to take chill pills to bear the months to come...

Do anybody knows how things work for ice shows after Olympics, after Sochi he did the Sendai show for himself, and did the FOI I think...

Takuro Morinaga, the uncle with glasses in the video, encouraged me with his prediction. He is an economic analyst and I'm not sure if he watches figure skating often, but sometimes the opinions from non-fans hit me

Morinaga: My prediction is, Hanyu will go to the Olympics without any competition beforehand, and win the Olympics, and receive People’s Honor Award.

Announcer: ...It might be likely...

Morinaga: Hanyu-san is the guy who can do this.

I posted this in December, and after all, Mr. Morinaga was right... :laugh2:

Mine was maybe 17 since I left the the USA on the 2nd and returned on the 19th. I get a little confused because of the time change and then gaining and losing days. I went to Hong Kong, Korea (for team events), Tokyo (where my friend took me to the Tokyo 2020 exhibit to see Yuzu's free skate costume and they reaired the team free on the huge screen in the mall area. I spotted myself constantly ), and then I came back to Korea to close it out with the men's events. They cut me off when I was saying they Tokyo wasn't as cold as Seoul and Gangneung.

I think these are the videos?:

I still get a kick out of them calling us Eri Moni. :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

Thank you, I haven't watched the second video, it is really nice Yuzuru is loved by many fans internationally :luv17: Eri Moni is perfect naming, sounds like Japanese idol duo

Now I rewatched the video and I noticed they did the same kind of editing to the Japanese fans watching at home (like, the music of SEIMEI was disconnected )

Only Yuzu could do this.
