Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I see no possibility of him not accepting the award...I don't know about the history of the award though, has it ever been refused?

There were three who refused accepting the award in the past, including Ichiro.

I hope he will accept the award and just be proud. I believe this award is the most honorable award in Japan, so the pros and cons on the government decision always arises. IMO, Yuzuru has been already responsible for the country for four years, and he has not been living a normal life, either. He won't be free anyway, so he should be rewarded the award with confidence. (You know, I've already read the comments that it was too early to give this award to him, but if he refused, they would say he was arrogant not accepting the government's proposal. I know what they will do )

So true. All we need to do is support him.

confession part 2, me neither lol

But I like seeing different side of Yuzuru and hope we'll have more

I can see where some might not like it because it is not very much like Yuzuru. But as an artist, I find the color, lighting and composition make a 'fantasy' that is pleasing to the eye. --But as for being the essence of who Yuzu is as an athlete and person, probably not a match. This is Yuzu as a working model, who lets the photographer be creative, rather than the photographer trying to let Yuzu be creative in being who he is.

I confess that I’m also not a huge fan of the styling and theme for this photo shoot... but it didn’t stop me from buying a copy when I saw it at a convenience store in Kyoto.

I found it cheesy, but I do enjoy cheesy things so I bought it.

I prefer seeing more candid shots of Yuzu as an athlete, or him being his playful self, but this type of stuff is fun(ny) every once in a while.

Who is Ichiro? and who were the other two?

Someone translated Brian's interview with Huffpost! He talks about Yuzu, Javi, Jun, and Yuna. One key point that I greatly appreciated was when he spoke about loving his students all equally. In the past, people got a bit upset at Brian for seemingly favoring Javi over Yuzu but I don't think that was ever the case. Brian was able to connect with Javi more because they're more similar personality wise, but I don't think that necessarily meant that favoritism was involved.

Ichiro, even more than Yuzu, has been Japan's most famous athlete, I think. But he's nearing retirement now.

Thank you both. What reason did they give to not accept?

And how do you think people would react if Yuzuru were to decline?

confession time, i really didnt like the packaging for this photoshoot :slink:

You are definitely not alone, I have to confess too, I find the style a bit old-fashion. I was a bit disappointed, coz I know this photographer and she usually did very well, esp when she is shooting girls, the vivid colours that she use, and flowers and costumes that she use is very eye catching and fresh. I was really looking forward to her crossover with Yuzu.

 but I do enjoy seeing Yuzu feeling embarrassed, I would love to see the behind the scenes of the “face-the-mirror-and- appreciate-you-beauty” shoot.

High standard of conduct is expected. It's difficult to be natural or do what normal young people do...
-But Yuzu is already under this kind of expectation anyway.

Please give us explanation about this prize and the reasons why Yuzuru may feel like to refuse this prize offered by the government. What is the prize? Is money attached to it? It is not because there were 3 others professional athletes who have known to refuse this prize that Yuzuru will have to refuse it too. Sorry I am not Japanese, I don't understand the discussion about this prize.
Is it an honour accorded by the government? If it is an honour and distinction, why refuse it?
