Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

Misha said enough is enough

seriously, how many other skaters would need to stop speaking to Yuzuru? is Shoma the next? to what Ive been here, Javi, then Evgenia, now Misha, some people need to chill

A tap dramatic, no? Misha hasn´t stop talking to Yuzuru, if he did, he wasn´t really his friend.

But some fans need to understand limits and not to harassed people...

Misha on the other hand, didn´t need to address these people if he wasn´t comfortable with their demands.

At some point, we fans turned Yuzuru to a celebrity while (1) he is not, he is an athlete, a sportsman and (2) the FS world is so new to this celebrity mode and is not trained how to handle it. Yuzuru does not have a social media account which I think has been a smart choice and contributed to his success till now. Other skaters, however, are confused about what to do, they delete photos, cleanse stories and keep their distance. It is so sad that they have to be careful where to show their friendship and where to hide it. We have to chill and let these athletes live their lives.

Now, with his increasing popularity I really hope we never see emergence of another video of an almost private conversation between friends like the one Zijun Li posted two years ago and people went crazy on whether Yuzu said girlfriend or old friend or ex-girlfriend :palmf:

Some personal thoughts about the new EX.
Music: I liked the live version they sang at Fantasy on Ice better than the version I listened to on Youtube. Good job guys, stayed mostly on key etc. This kind of music is not on my playlist by a long shot, but since it is different, it's good for Yuzu to try interpreting and expanding his skills.
Costume: Still not sold on the shoulder thing, but if it were a different color, I could be on board with it. It gives a nice sense of movement. I think the designer wanted to off-set the blue and looked at the color wheel and was like...'oh Yellow is on the opposite side.'

Choreography: Still in its early stages, so some motions need more fullness and some areas might need re-thinking, but I liked his exits from his jumps, new spin positions, and over-all it left a good impression. The stumble on the climax of the music made me giggle.
The smoothness of his movements stands out to me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PNFk01HTJg from this video of his EX, from 1:30 his Ina Bauer - to 3A to Ina Bauer etc. was wonderful. from 2:50 from the stumble onwards I really liked, especially a bit at 3:17-.

For things I hope will change, each skater has 'filler moves' that they put in when they aren't thinking or want to express something but don't have the movement quite decided yet. Yuzu is using a lot of that for this program. I know he goes back and watches his performances closely, so I hope he will smooth out those moves and/or replace them with more pertinent choreography. I have a lot of faith that he'll do this, as he is known for changing his choreo a lot himself from performance to performance.

What does everyone else think of the new EX? Is it good, bad, ok, hope he will change it completely?

Popularity is indeed a blessing and a curse at the same time.
I hope the skaters friendships remain intact even with the meddling people all around.
And I hope for the good everyone, nobody post about photos of Yuzu and Zhenya on the same rink in TCC.
Because if something like that leaks its going to be a huge MESS and DRAMA will ensue. I don't want them to deal with something so unnecessary.

OMG, it is happening :jaw: :hap57:

As much as I am glad Boyang and Evgenia will train in TCC, I hope Yuzuru is able to concentrate on himself just like he had.

They will need to re-work the team dynamics so that everyone can concentrate and feel comfortable. It's a new adventure.

I would not have believe you half a year ago if you tell me TCC is getting these new faces all at once! They will be the ones leaving home country for foreign training ground while Yuzuru will be a veteran at it, who knew! So I am sure he will be able to focus on his own goals. Undoubtedly some fans and the media will try to stir up trouble or what have you, but I trust TCC to handle its athletes well. But on the other hand, counting Gabby too, how many National champs are in the building there?! Crazy!

2/3 of the Major Orser rumors turned out to be true!

3/3 if you count Waka training 3A at TCC with Ghislain.

Wow. A lot of heavy hitters at TCC now. This is exciting, yet a little frightening due to the media frenzy that can be the Russian, Japanese and Chinese media. The thought of all of them converging on TCC to document their top skaters and of course stir drama makes me nervous.

Hopefully TCC hasn’t bit off more than they can chew and they can handle the scrutiny that will increase significantly with these new talents in the house.

I hope everyone will be able to get the attention (and focus) they need, especially Yuzuru, who seems as though he can be very independent with his training, but still requires quite a bit of input and direction from Brian and team.

About his EX "Wings of Words", I really liked it and I won't mind if he performs it in another place, but I don't think it will happen. Before watching the show, I was thinking the songs of CHEMISTRY would not fit into figure skating and if Yuzuru would skate to their songs, I was guessing he would pick "Pieces of A Dreams" (which was used as group number) or "You Go Your Way" (I've heard Misha did this song) because these became big hit and the audience must have known them well. But Yuzuru chose "Wings of Words" by himself and I think we can tell that in his performance, he looked he was feeling the music and the lyrics. And is it only me think his skating, spins and body movements have gotten better again? I wonder if it is because he has not been able to practice many jumps but focus on basic training as rehab. Anyways, according to his interview after the show, he said he was hoping that he could make the program more polished as a package with CHEMISTRY and I'm looking forward to seeing it again (we can see it only in Kanazawa next weekend).

Thank you for all the Faoi updates!

Wow, I’ve only been away for two days and now Yuzu’s got a new training mate, this is exciting! I’m sure Yuzuru and all these top skaters can focus and maintain their discipline. With Javi semi-retiring, I do think it’ll be good for Yuzu to have Boyang as a training mate. They’ll push each other up :)

Same. From my screen, I think the yellow is a little on the neon or greenish yellow side right now. Maybe shifting the yellow a little more to the orange side might be better, I don’t know.
I am getting used to it as it is, so I dont find it as bad as I initially did... but still don’t love it though haha

I feel like it still needs to be weaved together more tightly and seamlessly. Not that there’s any disruptive moments, but I agree that it can be filled in a bit more.
My favorite part of the choreography is probably the Ina Bauer with the hand movements.

I like his expressions during the performance. He really did seem to be feeling the music!
About his movements, I’ve been wondering since the moment we know he won’t be jumping for a while whether it would mean we’ll see him improving in other aspects in the mean time. So I’m inclined to say they got better, but I was thinking it might just be me convincing myself hahaha

I will hope for the best both for Yuzu and Boyang. Beijing 2022 is so exciting if both men can be there.
If Yuzu lands his Quad A before that and retires, it seems TCC will have another Gold medal bet via Boyang.
Yuzu don't hurt yourself too much in perfecting your quad loop, flip, lutz and axel.

I only need it perfect once on video so I can re-watch it forever.
