Yuzuru Hanyu: 2018-2019

I am not so sure about this and I don't even know why  :drama:

Because you only need to look at the subdued treatment of Yuzu at NHK in the past and the common occurrence of Japanese judges giving him marks below average to understand the JSF's general attitude towards him :sarcasm:

Yuzu gets everything out of his hardwork and effort.
And just curious, I saw on my twitter TL that back in 2012-2013 season he thought he was overscored and wanted to talk to the judges about it?
Is this true? At what competition?

I don't recall reading about the above before, but wouldn't be surprised that is something very Yuzu - the judges are harsh on him but he himself is his own harshest critic. Even after some of his best skates, he still find something about his performance to be unsatisfied about to improve :drama: I do recall reading before that after NHK 15, a judge admit they should have given him more marks (i.e. it was an underscored world record lol). Yuzu - only skater in the world that try to reason with judges on good marks, whilst judges admit he is underscored.

on unrelated matter, I am reading that Fantasy On Ice has opened a Chinese weibo now for news? does that mean its going to China ? will Yuzu be there? or they are going to let people use non-Japan credit cards and details finally? I hope it is the latter and will save me the trouble of finding someone in Japan to enter the lottery and fight for seats. or even added show in China is not bad, since my parents have never been there so I can finally take them travelling - thanks to Yuzu I ended up going to countries I otherwise would not have gone, like Finland, Russia, and now I've booked Italy

Worlds just announced that it will be selling practice tickets. But how can a foreigner get one?

It seems it is the lottery of Lawson, and I think you need Japanese phone number.
If I ask a proxy to help will it be fine?
As long as they use their japanese number but my name is displayed on the ticket?

I am looking at this page (http://wfc2019.jp/ticket.html) and it doesn't say about it. I noticed there was English page as well but it has not been updated yet if I am not wrong. This lottery is a first come, first served basis again so I guess the tickets are going to be sold out in a few minutes anyway :slink: But good luck to those who will try on Friday!

So I am starting to think Brian's Top Secret refers to not new jumps, but just the overall layout. Yuzu will probably keep the Helsinki Jump Layout if he is healthy. A month is left, so I'm guessing he will know by now what layout he is going for with his current condition.

I am thinkin 3 different types of quads: 4S, 4T, 4Lo. But 4 in total is FS.

As for the Laureus Awards next week, I have given up hope he will attend. No news yet, but still. It's too late for him to announce last minute he is going to Monaco.

I would also think that a new jump is not on the horizon, given the circumstances. Brian has also said that they had been working on the 4A but it has been put on hold for the time being.

I am hopeful, really, that this hiatus would be a blessing in disguise and they know very well how Yuruzu can perform after being out of competitions for a while.

If the injury had not happened, we might have had seen Yuzuru peaking at the GPF and it would have been difficult skate at his best one more time this season at worlds.

The Worlds is gonna be a nailbiter regardless.

IIRC it was at the 2013 GPF FS where he thought he was overscored. If you watch the video, you can see him shaking his head when his scores came up. The British Esp commentators and Johnny Weir, however, said his was a deserved win over Patrick Chan, who was then thought of as invincible, and I agree with them. I do not remember though reading then about Yuzuru wanting to talk to the judges about his scores.

Re Worlds, I don't think Yuzuru is at the "mercy" of Nathan's quads. With the shortened FS, I don't think Nathan will do 5 or 6 quads. It will boil down to execution of their programs, and Yuzuru's this season are magic. If he does his programs in the way only he can, he will win.

Praying that he will arrive in Saitama, where he has won Worlds before, in his best possible condition. Go Yuzuru!

About Laureus Awards, looks like we will never have a hint of who will until the day right?
Let's hope for the best.
That top secret comment by Brian sure stirred our imaginations a lot.
I even went thinking, maybe to shock everyone Yuzu can do the 4 Lutz at the SP as an opening jump with all positive GOE's. (Just wishful thinking)

Yuzuru can go for the +5 on anything. A 4S +4 +5 gives you the same amount of points, even much more than a 4Lz that is a bit wonky.

I just came across this. New words from Javi about training with Yuzuru. https://twitter.com/anjaheyheyhey/status/1095963395591995392?s=21
I know it’s normal but it’s scary to visualize that “clean the floor/ice” part.

Re Worlds practice ticket, tickets to which days/which rink would be recommended if I want to see Yuzu? There’s a chance I may be going to Japan during that time so I want to give the lottery a try.

Today's the 5th anniversary of his first Olympic medal! and how befitting it's on Valentines day since skating is his one true love:laugh: even before he won Sochi he said the Sochi gold will only be the beginning for him (when for most skaters it is the end all be all). The boy knew he was going to be the biggest legend from the very start.

And they are building another monument of Yuzu at Sendai, this time of Seimei! If I go Sendai I really need to take picture of both the PW monument and Seimei monument.

Congrats to Yuzu on the his week of Olympic anniversaries! That 2014 SP world record and of course the gold today... and coming up, 2018's big big days :cheer::cheer::cheer::cheer:

It's lovely to hear them both talking about what being teammates meant to them, wonderful sportsmanship that I hope will be remembered as part of their legends... already looking forward to Fantasy on Ice this year.

Would be great to see Team Cricket dorking around at FaOI with Yuzu, Javi, Med, Jason and Junhwan.
It's sad that some of them missed each other due to schedule conflicts...

This is the schedule of the practice at Worlds, but we don't know who is going to be on the main rink or sub rink yet. I wonder how the fans will choose to buy...but the lottery is today, good luck to you!

Just in time for his anniversary week (of both Olympics!), apparent Sendai are planning another monument to their favourite son...

Also Yuzuru will be attending their ceremony (if he is available) :)

I wonder if his new monument will be done by the week the worlds start?
Since I cannot get ticket to worlds or even the pratices, I will spend my first 3 days in Sendai.

Thank you! I’m having an agent who specializes in getting concert tickets do the lottery on my behalf, hopefully her experience would help me get my hands on a ticket :D
Too bad I started considering going too late. I could’ve had her try the competition tickets as well :(

ETA: Alas, even experienced hands weren’t able to get the ticket on the Japanese site. I didn’t realize they opened the international site as well and was too late when I found out.
