Admire his determination to land the first 4A. Program-wise I can see Hanyu's feminine moves and costumes already. That's his thing.

Not surprised about not trying the Flip and Lutz given his injury history. And didnt think he would focus on them now because he probably will be injuried again if he tries it.

I can understand the layout given he is playing with 4 types of jumps only and the limits on quads and repeats which now affects him.

I am not excited about the music choices. He can do better and we have seen him do better and was looking for something more original from him. I dont want to play the comparison game with him, and there are a LOT of music out there and he is more than capabilities to do them well, and then he chooses songs that is not original and being common, when he doesnt need to.

I was hoping more from him, and a bit disappointed about about these choices.

Always smart, he really thinks in the composition of the program, I think the new length of the program will cut the opportunity for artistry.

I wish his quote ISU HQ, so they reconsider bringing back that lost 30 seconds. Even Plu thought it was a bad idea. Why doesn't ISU actually listen to skaters' opinions? Like they know skating better? When the GOAT says something about the new rules, it's time to listen.

Imagine walking into TCC with all the people watching...

Also if the media is staying for a couple more days, hopefully we'll get a little bit more info too:pray:

Pic of TCC training session. All the skaters are on the same ice:love: Now if we can have a video of that, it'd be nice.

And wow

OMG!!!!!!! This might mean they are staying longer to film a documentary! A new Documentary before the season starts! Spirit of the Athletes maybe?

Finally, a reveal!

I'm not particularly excited about the music choices, but I'm a new enough fan that I do not have a strong association of the music/performances with Weir and Plushenko. I will keep an open mind and see what Yuzuru (and Jeff/Shae-Lynn) can deliver in a few weeks time. He's my favorite in the men's discipline, so I'll be hearing these music choices a lot either way :).

Side note: I hope Yuzuru has a mostly-black costume and does a spiral in his FS ala Plushenko. Love me a good spiral held for more than a second, please.

Sorry, but I see gender stereotyping in your comment. One thing great about Yuzuru is he doesn't let gender stereotyping limit his programs or his costumes.

That wasn't what I said. The 4A is a longstanding dream of his, and it's not really about scoring extra points (though those are nice too), particularly since the BV cuts have devalued the 4A relative to the other quads, as you say. Landing the 4A is about making history and crossing what may well be the final frontier in men's skating.

Hanyu's GOE (and PCS) have always given him an advantage over other top skaters. There's no reason to think that's suddenly going to change.

He's not afraid of risk, but there's such a thing as measured risk. Indeed, he's not doing the 4Lo in his short program anymore.

Unless you think Hanyu isn't interested in winning this season, the BV of his layout still matters. Yes, of course landing the 4A is his childhood dream, and that's worth something beyond points, but this is still a competition and he has hungry competitors, so maximizing his BV is still important. It's not as though his competitors are standing still--they'll improve their PCS and GOE too, and the more their BV outpaces his, the more he'll have to rely on the judgments of fickle judges. It's not as though his GOE provides him an unbeatable margin.

The reward for switching 4S or 4T for 4Lo is marginal in the short. That's only 0.5 to 1 point. The reward for switching 3Lo for 4A is not marginal--that's 7.6 points.

Now, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't jump the 4Lo on the 4A's first couple of outings, but there's no doubt in my mind that the goal is to jump both in one free skate eventually (though the precise schedule I would imagine depends a lot on how the season plays out). He didn't drop his 4Lo when he was adding 4Lz last season, and the stakes last season were much higher than this season.

- firstly, for all the people who criticised him for recycling his programs, he does a perfect Yuzutroll response "what? I'm not recycling MINE this year!!!"

sigh.. are we allowed to be disappointed in those choices though? Especially Otonal... I have never liked that music... it's so dull... Oh well... I will be watching anyways......

interesting about leaving out the lutz and flip... smart choice for him.

Otonal is actually my favorite Johnny program, so I actually think it’s a good choice.

i remember it from Maria Butyrskaya... it was her hit-piece... and that season, i think i heard it about 20 times... i never recovered... sorry mrrrice

Plushenko and his Nijinski performance were feminine? :jaw:

Yuzuru is pretty well above masculine/feminine, he's moved into supernatural/alien style.... and for one I cannot wait to see how he answers the critics of his costumes.

From the admittedly tiny clips of practice, he and Shae-Lynn are definitely putting his own unique stamp on the piece...

Yes please, but if so it'll also be all sparkle and glitter, we all know that.

I'm sure Yuzu can pull off any costume and make it look attractive. His body line and face does that.

What I'm more concerned is that if he adds 4A into the program we will have that 2013~2014 inconsistency in his programs (like how he used to struggle with his quad salchow back then).

I really want clean WR programs from yuzu more than 4A. I think 4A can wait until he can jump 4Lz again without pain.

Yuzuru says he was very nervous when he told Plushenko about using his program, but Plushenko looked to be very happy and accepted him willingly. He had always wanted to perform this program, but it was Plushenko's iconic program so he had been holding back. But now the Olympics was over and he thought he might want to do this.

And I like his statement here about the new system. "I have never felt the advantage or disadvantage with respect to the rules. It's like an indicator that makes us get better because winning or losing is decided according to the rules. To become stronger according to the standard is better than thinking the rules is blah blah. "

I think he explicitly said that he wasn't feeling pain when jumping lutzes and flips, just that they felt off and he still has some anxiety surrounding the 4Lz.

Their friendship is legendary  since 2001!

And I just want to tell you I imagine how many Japaneses are happy after Yuzuru's choice. The Japaneses simply adore the Nijnsky Program, there are hundreds of fanarts about it and there are still new and new ones being born even today! And Yuzuru will skate it! It's reall fantastic! They will be extra happy!

and it seems Yuzuru sent us then https://twitter.com/tamayura_yura/status/1035312714212495360 I didn't undertand why he did thoseiconic moves but everything is cleared now..
