It makes total sense to me. J-Nats is a bigger deal this year with Worlds being in Japan and Yuzu having missed it for 2 years. Med's spot on the national team isn't in jeopardy even if she finishes behind the juniors (not that Yuzu's is in jeopardy either).
 
Oh my, apparently BESP used to mispronounce "Yuzuru" as "Yuzuri" when he had just started out as a senior. Does "Yuzuri" sound as girly to native Japanese speakers as it does to me? :laugh:

Sis/bro are you new to his fandom? The misspelling of his name has a history as long as The Great Wall with so many contributors. I think Danibellerika can give you a very diverse list of all the pronunciations his name had gained since his junior years.

My favourite was the one - can't recall where - where he was called "Yuzanori".....
 
Am I the only one getting teary-eyed when reading that David Wilson interview, where he talked about how Yuzuru wrote a heartfelt letter to David, talking about how much he wanted to use R&J and how he wanted to be "an Olympic Champion now, not just in four years"? Even just from his description I can feel how his drive and determination must have felt been quite amazing to witness firsthand.
I often wonder what it's like to want something so so bad and to have your whole life aiming towards that goal...(since I don't really have one :p), and I just got emotional thinking that we really had witnessed something/someone special when we watch him skate and compete. :)

Trying to stay calm and nonchalant about this lack of news regarding programs. Thinking it's just logistic issues; so probably no big dramatic reason why it's been later than past years, most likely to accommodate everyone's schedule who is participating (Yuzuru, Brian, and usually they get a few shots of Tracy too, and maybe the choreographers too?)

Sis, and yes, Yuzu has been my favorite skater for years, but I never thought to talk to anyone about him until last month. :laugh: I hadn't seen many of his older programs, so I thought just getting the accent wrong on his first name and pronouncing his last name more like "han-yu" than "ha-nyuu" was the worst of it.

WHAAAAAT!? :rofl: Where did the "-nori" come from!? Was there another skater in the competition with a name ending in "-nori"? Had someone skated to a T.M.Revolution song? :laugh:
 
So while we wait for Yuzuru's program announcements and taking inspiration from the most memorable commentator reaction thread in the Edge, please let's share our favorite commentaries on Yuzuru/his programs, the ones we keep replaying as the words of appreciation for Yuzuru is music to our ears. I use the plural as for sure it's hard to pick just one :).

I love all the commentaries on his 2012 Worlds LP performance, but the Swiss French one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2OixvEwmyY) probably mirrors most my reaction when I first saw it. At the end of the program, the lady commentator after being silent for a while gave a short laugh of sheer amazement at what she just saw and exclaimed, "He's just absolutely incredible this kid! ...such energy, such generosity, and such talent!"

Also to my knowledge the commentary has the first commentator allusion to Yuzuru's extraterrestial powers, prefiguring Max Ambesi. The lady commentator said that Yuzuru's random fall in that performance was forgotten because the rest was so magnificent and magical to which her male counterpart riposted, "But we shouldn't forget it because it's the only thing that shows us Yuzuru Hanyu is human and not an alien."

Looking to the future, I would also like to cite the veteran Canadian sports commentator Scott Russel's response when asked just after Worlds 2017 about a moment that really surprised him in figure skating (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbd40SC4az4&t=5s). His reply: "Most of them surround Yuzuru Hanyu....The guy has the ability to rise to the occasion like very few athletes I have ever seen....More often than not, when he's at the moment that's really important, he's able to do it--to rise above. And I wonder sometimes at Yuzuru Hanyu, how high he can take the bar because I think it's going to continue to get higher for a while...."

Tracy will be there and I wouldn’t worry too much about it. She will know how to handle any situation that might come up.
I’m kind of glad that Brian will be with Yuzu though. It’s his first Nationals in two years and he need Brian to calm him and stuff.

After seeing this my mind went like:
Dad will go with son and Mom will go with daughter to fill all their emotional needs. :ghug:
I am sure their team evaluated well the strategy.

Especially with Daisuke returning at J Nationals! I'm glad Brian is going with Yuzu! (Not because of rivalry, but because there will be more media attention and pressure with Dai coming back)

A couple of my favourites: from way back in 2012? - when he broke his first world record, Kurt saying:
"You're seventeen, what are you gonna do?" (Oh I don't know, break eleven more for luck?")

From the NBC 2014 Olympics - Parisian walkways:
"Hello, Olympics! I'm here for the first time, and I came to win!"

From (I think) two Spanish commentators in 2015-16
"What I say, Susana? What can we say about this?"
"Just keep clapping." :laugh:

From the CBC broadcast of his 2015 GPF Seimei:
"That was four and a half minutes of total skating perfection... again. Again!!"

Belinda Noonan on the Olympics Notte Stellata:
With one delayed single axel, one triple axel, Yuzur Hanyu double gold medallist just gave a master class in what figure skating actually is."

and iconic from the 2018 Olympics, I think it was a Chinese commentator though there might have been others, it is totally, perfectly Yuzu:
'Fate whispers to the warrior, "You can not withstand the storm." The warrior whispers back, "I am the storm."'
