Maybe Yuzu's Axel problems were actually attempts at the 4A...?

No, he messed the first time cause of timing, you could see that he was doubting at the entry, he couldn't match the music and the fell. The 2nd one I think it was more a mental thing caused by messing the first one.

So considering that he almost changed all the layout (only the 3lo was on his original place) without time for training it, he did really well.

I don't think he was planning to do a 4A
But the fact that he changed ALMOST HIS ENTIRE JUMP LAYOUT WITHOUT EVEN PRACTICING IT is a complete bonkers :eekn:
Nobody would ever try to attempt it... except for skating god aka Hanyu

I don't mean an overrotation, I mean trying to do a 4A and either not quite having the momentum or just plain freezing up.
He fell during practice and got injured. Changed his layout, took out the 4lo and 4T-3A. I doubt he going to do the 4A. He even missed a combo....

https://twitter.com/yuzu_pino/status/1063776602411040771 Here is his post FS interview with Shuzo and his hug with Edvin Martin afterwards.

I will translate below:
S: Hanyu san is here. There are only Congratulations to be said for you to win under these circumstances. What do you think?
H: Well, the performance was pitiful, and I feel full of regret about it.
S: When it was done it seemed like you said "Gambatta" (I did my best)
H: I do think I did my best, however, the ankle is loose, so it can't be helped, but I guess this is also part of being Hanyu Yuzuru and I hope for (your) continued support.
S: Hanyu never makes excuses, I know, but in pain, there isn't anyone who changes their Jumps line up this much. I think it's amazing that you fought through this.
H: To be honest there were areas of confusion, and I did it without training it once. But I did what I could do, and what I couldn't do, are good lessons going forward.
S: About what you couldn't do, here in Russia, thoughts of Plushenko must be strong, it must be regretful (kuyashisa)
H: Actually, I was practicing the Beilman before coming here, and my spin coach told me if you do everything (I think he means the FS) cleanly, you can do the Beilman. I couldn't do it, so I'm frustrated.
S: Hanyu-san turns adversity into strength, so what have you gained from this?
H: I had misses on the jumps I am good at, so I must practice each thing, but I think my training till now has not been in vain; I felt that in the first half of the program. I want to continue to train well.
S: You were late in arriving to 6 minute warm up, I thought there was a chance you'd stop. And I didn't want you to over-do it. With what feeling did you compete?
H: I knew I probably would not be able to warm up properly, so as a strategy, I think it was right, and that even in this condition I can jump somewhat I think is a good thing.
S: Finals, you made it! What's more isn't this the first time with two victories? Please let me congratulate you. You may feel despondent, but we are so happy you did your best. Please, a word about the final?
H: My frustration is burning. I will continue to do my best.
S: Thank you so much.

Ahhh, praying hard that he heals up very soon.

Hopefully it was a minor injury and he's just being cautious. I twisted my wrist hydroblading last week, and it's good as new now even though it hurt pretty badly when it first happened. I know a hydroblade is a lot easier than a 4Lo, but Yuzu is a waaay better skater than I am, so I'll keep hoping and praying.

He has said he won't resume practicing a 4A until after J Nats... so, no, no attempts at 4A any time soon... and after today, who knows, depending on what the ankle is doing..

Congratulations Yuzu!
I'm surprised he got the first 2 quads but then he fell on his 3A :eekn:
Please rest well. You fought hard.

He always fights, he doesn't know any other way.

TAT went to visit him after the competition and said his leg hurts a lot.
He really did his best being injured. Please don’t let it be serious 😭

Yeah, a quick change of plan as the ankle is tender; not having practiced this layout at all. No way he is suddenly attempting 4A today. My guess is next season.

I laughed when Yagudin took out his cell to record the pooh-rain.

Who else could have completely changed their layout, skated through the pain and gotten that score?

Aaaannd he was in full kuyashii mode in the interview and said he would practice hard for GPF. My co-worker said to me on LINE, "Must be tough to be a fan of Hanyu-kun"

Congratulations, Yuzuru!! I have to say I was so relieved that you finished your performance. Please heal your ankle

About 3As in FS today, Oda also said that it must have been difficult for him to do them since the curve and the route into those were totally different from his planned layout.

My heart is pounding for him.
Rest well Yuzu we will be always with you.
Hopefully we can see him in worlds
