I’m curious. What was the question that prompted Yuzuru to make that statement about retirement? Or was it just a part of a long response to some other question not specifically about retirement?

He chose to skate today'S FS in Russia even if it worsens his injury. After told by his doctor he needs 3 weeks rest, he was alrealy sure he won't perform in GPF. He had to choose whether to skate today and risking Japan Nationals or not to skate today and at least increase possibility of being ready for Japan Nationals. He chose to skate in Russia, because performing Origin in Russia was so important to him.
(This is not really translation, but the information I got from this article, as I understood it)

I only saw his performance later in recording. He has really put his sould in it and it moved me into tears.

Yuzu, get well soon

I'd hope no one was crass enough to ask about it, but he realised that given the fact that it was the same ankle, it would be in everyone's minds...

Poor Yuzuru, he must be devastated but for sheer courage (and the brilliance that made reworking it even possible!) that FS took some beating. I hope Plushenko can reassure him and will tell him he's proud...

Sounds like TAT is there for him too.

This is the 3rd season where he's gonna miss J Nationals due to an injury.. Is this the new curse? [emoji24][emoji24][emoji24]

Also.. Will he also miss out on banquet? He can't go to Banquet on crutches can he? [emoji24]

Well, I finally got up the nerve to watch the FS again, and now that the shock of those levels and how it was Axels of all things that he fell on/popped has dissipated, that was a stunning performance as usual and a well-deserved win. I saw him smiling during the choreo sequence, too. I guess he was enjoying performing Origin in Russia no matter what else happened.

Get well soon, Yuzu. :luv17:

Bless those girls. He obviously really needed the comfort given how he always does the "gentleman hands" or whatever they're called where he won't touch underage girls.

Wait what?! Is this something specific to the Japanese culture or is it only something Yuzuru does (or, better said, avoids doing)?

(Sorry, I'm not familiar with this and found it a bit curious)

So Orser said in the most recent interview at Rostelcom that Hanyu was unlikely to ever bring the quad lutz back in competition. Which means he has 3 quads right now (4T, 4S, 4Loop), and would need a 4th to stay competitive. Banking the 4th on the Quad Axel is dubious at best. I don't see a way out of this quad conundrum.

Why would he need a 4th quad to be competitive? He'd be fine with the layout he was planning. I'm more worried if the 4Lo brings the same trauma as the 4Lz to him mentally...

Get well soon, Yuzu. :(

He's been setting world records left and right without four quads. Why wouldn't he be able to keep going with the jumps he's been using, God willing that his ankle heals enough?

No he isn't.

Unfortunately, I don't think he would be able to win those with this layout. Having 3 quads is only possibly enough against Nathan or Shoma if he skates perfectly cleanly and they don't; they all have 4 quads. Yuzuru's main advantages are in PCS and in his ridiculous GOE for 4T and 4S; it's unclear if those would be enough.

I don't know if you want to watch it. They were completely clueless about his condition. I heard that german commentators were even worse, saying that that they shouldn't be prejudiced but now they are and that with this skate, he wouldn't even win in the finals against Chen or Uno (telling the obvious -.-). They didn't even ask why he changed his program this much or what his condition was but as a commentator it's your JOB to know and it was big news this morning so HOW did it get past so many commentators? The british didn't know, the german didn't and I was told the polish didn't know as well. This is SO frustrating that they judge him without knowing or asking what happened! I'm furious and for the german commentators I wish that -against all odds- Yuzu heals in time to win at GPF. They praised him to the moon at Worlds 2017 but also saying he was an outsider because he was in 5th place. I'm sorry for this rage but this unprofessionalism is so unnecessary right now and in these days. Gosh! More than that I wish for Yuzuru to finally heal and not think that he's at fault! You did nothing wrong, Yuzu!

Thank you for the information.

Tarasova and Yagudin watching Yuzuru's FS, at least, they knew the situation and looked very supportive. I am in tears.

No he isn't.

I'm confused. Shoma is only doing 4 quads total, so only 3 types. The only thing he could do is replace 4S for the 4Lo again. I doubt he wants to attempt 5 quads total again so in effect he has the same number of quads as Yuzu. Only Nathan has 4 types and may do 5 quads (or 6 if he adds 4Lo), but even then a 4 quad Yuzu has the potential to win over a 5-6 quad Nathan. Sadly, not sure when we'll be able to see a confrontation between all 3 with no one injured.

How adorable is Nervous Papa Yagudin there? I'm heartbroken and laughing at the same time. If I didn't know who they were and who Yuzu is, I'd say that was a dad and grandma watching their (grand)son. So heartwarming to see how supportive they are, thank you for posting.
