Yuzuru Hanyu: 2019-2021

Why is he going to 4CCs? IDK what's going on with him but he's been off since GPF and he needs to rest up before he injured himself again. He's doing this exact opposite of peaking right now.

I confess I am not so glad for 4CC, because of the jetlag before Worlds. Of course I wish what he wishes, but I am not sure this assignment reflects his own wish, rather the Japanese Federation wish, to which he is quite unlikely to oppose any contradiction.

Hopefully the monitor is just a precaution or curiosity.

In addition to the jet lag, having it on might have affected his performance by being distracting or uncomfortable.

And on a less serious and hopefully not disrespectful note, I could tell his sleeves were see-through, but I always assumed there was some kind of flesh-toned fabric under the rest of the top part of his costume. Guess not. :o:

It was Yuzuru's wish to go to 4CC, he said in the press conference. I hope the translation will come.

It's Monday morning here and I have to go to work, but I am happy for all of you got the tickets of 4CC :)

If you’ve seen practice photos before sometimes Yuzu wears some sort of monitor on his chest (not sure if it’s heart or respitory monitor, but you can see the outline of the box under his clothes) at times during practice. We don’t usually see him wear it during a competition skate but in photos like this:

You can see he was wearing it underneath the Origin costume during the free program. Yuzu doesn’t usually wear it while competing so it made me think he was trying to monitor his condition during the free as well, why, I’m not sure.

Ah! I remember. It's called differently in my language and I didn't associate it with the word "monitor" (even though I use the word "monitoring" quite a lot ^^°). So thanks for the info. I'm not sure if these things can help monitoring his lung condition. I once wore one of these and it measured pulse and blood pressure. I think it can also measure what's inside the sweat but I'm not sure. Why he wore that during competition is not in my knowledge.
For 4CC and Worlds I think it's okay. Sure Montreal and Seoul are far appart but there's a gap of about a month and not only two weeks. So fingers crossed for my guess that it won't affect him as much as in the last few weeks.

Well in past year's when he didn't go to 4CC people are worried about him having too big of a gap between competitions. So either way there will be people who are worried.

Hoping he can spend some family time now in Japan through the new year!

Just watched the FS, and gosh that was worse than I'd imagined :( But the good news is he peaks quickly and has all the jumps (except maybe 4A). He probably just needs a few days of rest in 1 time zone, and then he should be on track to peak for world's. Not sure if he has time to both rest and get 4A ready to try out at 4CC though. Regardless, I think he absolutely needs to train stamina for new FS layout (with or without 4A) so I think 4CC is a must for him this year, smart decision.

I think I can remain optimistic because we (think we) know exactly what today’s problem was. He was tired from all the competitions. Even though he lost, I just think that knowing exactly what the problem was and knowing that a rest is probably what he needs wouldn’t be as frustrating as not performing well when he feels like he’s in great condition.

Agreed. I think his mental game is ok. With rest the physical game should be back too.

Tough one for Yuzu, but it's basically what I predicted and his comments before the comp prepared us as well. Toronto, Japan, Toronto, Italy, Toronto, Japan, in a span of weeks is insanity and I couldn't do it even without having to compete at the highest level! Just reading it exhausts me. I hope he can now rest, recharge, and come back fighting. I'm glad he got a good short under his belt with the new layout at least and that he got through it without injury. As for 4CC I figured, health willing, he'd likely go. I think he'd rather have one more competition under his belt at least trying his intended worlds layout. I think going to 4CC 2017 really helped him for Worlds 2017.

There is still some gap before 4CC and Worlds, so he can still adjust. But for now I just wish he has a good rest to recuperate. Looking at past nationals with the same three competitions in a month schedule, he also didnt compete well (for his standards), so this is really overworked fatigue that even four years ago was hard to overcome.

Yuzuru explained the participation of 4CC and future jump layout of the programs in the press conference yesterday. He decided to do 4CC because he wanted to make it as a step to improve more and to learn new jump (4A). 4Lz and 4A has only one point difference in BV, and he is not sure if it is worth doing it or doing 4Lz twice in the program would be better, if he was asked. But it is his pride in himself and the core supporting his current skating, so he wants to land it absolutely. He also has a strong feeling that he wants to get gold medal at 4CC. He is not thinking about putting the jumps (combo?) in the first half of Otonal, so he might seek for other measures such as arranging the music, to do the jumps with good success rate and beautifully blended into the program. About Origin, he won't keep National's layout but has to think about what the top priority is. If he thinks about 4Lz the most importantly, doing it as a first jump is the stable way for sure. 4Lz, 4Lo, and in the second half, 4S, 4T, 4T, A, A. And if he reaches the level that he can do 4A, he has to think about what he should do after 4A, because he knows it is going to be really hard on his body if he does 4Lz after 4A.

Fortunately Yuzu is so good at math
How is it that there's only one point difference between 4A and 4Lz?? Why does it remind me of Mao's 3A BV in 2010 Olys?:biggrin:
