Has he ever debuted a program that's scored this high before? I'm still disappointed it didn't score higher, but for a first outing, that's the best an SP of his has done, right?

Yes, I believe you’re right. Even with the wacky spin issue it’s the highest debut program he’s ever had. (Is it the highest debut ever? Might have to check Nathan or Shoma’s historical scores.)
I was a bit nervous, but seeing him in the warm-up he looked pretty solid so I felt mostly positive. I was actually blown away by how polished the program is already! Of course he’ll have to check on the twizzle/spin situation (ughhhhh I hope he doesn’t have to remove the sit twizzles) but it’s already a stunner. I’m now really excited for the free skate, but I have some lingering trauma from last year’s JNats soooo... we’ll see if I sleep tonight!

I suspect it is in his back-up layout if he screwed up any of his planned jumps. I am also guessing he is wary that fans will get worried if he is injured when they see no 3Lz, so he could have jumped it to to not make people worry.
Also how good does our rock star look on the newspapers

"I had fun, and that is more important than anything. It was the first performance in the competition, but I was able to execute jumps sufficiently as form, which I want to praise myself. Of course, I am not satisfied completely and nor content, but I could reach the score that I can compromise for the moment. I have tasks in FS tomorrow, so I want to fix them firmly. "

The Japanese press are unsurprisingly ecstatic to have him back... but they do seem to be respecting his wishes about distancing.
It is indeed more important, he's more than earned his right to do this for fun.

I'm in for a second Christmas treat! I didn't look up what the music will be or if there have been glimpses of his costume. I want it to be a complete surprise ^^. No matter the result, I think I will be happy tonight. But I'll probably have to wait about 2.5 more hours until there will be some videos available. I'll be patient ^^.

To clarify a little further, it also seems like Yuzu didn't reach two full revolutions in his first position, he probably started counting a little too early than the nitpicky tech panel. In conclusion:
- he didn't have the required 2 revolutions in one of the two positions on the first side of the spin (on left foot)
- he didn't therefore reach 6 full revolutions on the first side of the spin
- after foot change he missed both positions - as in he didn't have the required two full revs in either sit position
- he didn't have the required 6 revs on the second side of the spin (right foot)
Because of the above the spin couldn't have been called a change foot combo spin, had he achieved two full revs in his first position the judges probably wouldn't have invalidated the spin but give him probably lvl 2 (difficult entry and two positions in a basic sit spin) and +GOE.
That't my theory based on the talk with my friend judge and the ISU rule book
Gosh, same, I literally cannot contain myself when I watch him, my emotions are all over the place
Also I am always so amazed of how difficult his programs are and how creative, always showing some new different, difficult moves. His skating skills really are unmatched, I can only think of two current skaters who come close to him: Kolyada and Rizzo.- Joined
