Yuzuru Hanyu: 2021-22

Speaking of Mark — if there is anything that made me grin, it's what happened with Mark and Yuzu at a practice session. Yuzu is Mark's favorite skater. He said he grew up watching Yuzu and he thinks he's a figure skating genius. He was disappointed when Yuzu withdrew from Rostelecom because he wanted to meet him, but he thought he might get another chance now that the Olympics were coming.

Fast-forward to the first day Yuzu set foot on the ice at a practice, after the men's event had concluded. Mark is there. And his hero is there, right? Apparently, there was a guy skating toward Yuzu and coming so close to hitting him that Mark grabbed both of Yuzu's arms to keep him out of harm's way. This is a photo of Yuzu bowing to Mark for helping him. Can Mark look any happier? And what a way to meet him, playing hero to your own hero and lending a helping hand. Or in this case— two hands.

A little bit of Haru yo, Koi! from this practice:

You didn't expect someone else to be trending in my country, did you? Silly wabbits!

The response to his gala performance was also huge in China

And Chinese Hanyu fans couldn't get into the arena to watch him skate (since tickets were not sold to public), but they came out in the drove to line up outside capital stadium to support and wave goodbye to him. The amount of fans waiting there is amazing!

Here's a full video of the gala; he's starting about 1:44:20, and the finale is filmed from a very remote place:

And here's a Russian point of view of Haru yo, Koi! with subtitled comments (the second part can be found in the answers):

I read that story earlier today. If there is any truth to him making those comments, I'd like to ask him what the heck is he thinking. Many people saw that hole besides Yuzu and some even took photos. But that's all water under the bridge at this point, and I just hope he can get his ankle in some type of working order that he can eventually live with. Funny you posted that, they replayed his programs tonight on the Olympic channel. You can clearly see him looking at the ice as he goes over it as if to say to the hole, "What the hell are you doing here?" It's like walking into the kitchen after someone dropped an egg on the floor, but before they can clean it up you hop over it saying, "What the hell is on the floor?"

I just don't get why he has to say all those things. I mean, it's okay to be critical but to say that what Yuzuru says about the hole is an excuse, is making me angry. Like he doesn't know Yuzuru at all.

^ For content I don't agree with, I support just ignoring it. In the eventuality that one is posting negative speculation to get attention or out of jealousy (I am not saying that happened here, hence the 'if'), not giving them the time of day, hence no clicks, no popularity, is the best way to deal with them IMO.

Anyhow, I haven't seen the gala yet, so I look forward to Haru Yo Koi from the archive. ^ ^
And great to see Yuzuru so loved in China! How nice of the Chinese fans to support him like that. He's one of a kind in how he brings the whole world together. :ghug:
