Yuzuru Hanyu: 2021-22

There was a S-Park broadcast on Yuzuru Hanyu, here unsubbed in 14 parts (not all parts are in this thread):

Here's a little part subtitled, we can hear the pianist and composer who arranged and played Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for this program:

Here's the full S-Park broadcast, still in Japanese. (Automatic subtitles are available but often enigmatic!)

Fuji compiled 1h of his past skates at Japan Nationals since childhood.
He said himself lately that his fondest memory was his All-Japan Novice title when he was 9.
This video starts later and with a struggling Free. This is an original compilation of much less viewed skates except the second (Firebird) which is iconic, because apart of these and the last ones they were not his best interpretations of the programs. 2015 Seimei for instance contrasts strikingly with its two previous outings (NHK and GPF) which established World Records. These are in fact his Japan Nationals skates except 2017 Worlds Free.

I have long held Let's Go Crazy to be the most difficult, intricate, fast-paced short program ever skated.
When Yuzuru Hanyu unveiled Let Me Entertain You I thought it was extremely pleasant but less insanely difficult.
Here is a comparison, they are more even than I would have thought.

Of course, Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, his Olympic program, is a whole other dimension. It is not "merely" a perfection and ultimate expression of programs skated by others, it redefines the ideal Short Program.

I come with news from my local newspaper again - always nice to see in the morning. They certainly have someone in their midst that is very fond of Yuzuru and isn't afraid to show it. This was an article about the "Stars of the Game" today:

Translation of Yuzuru's part:

Figure Skating is a spectacular mix of aesthetics, grace, technique and athletics. Yuzuru Hanyu, 27 years young, is regarded as a master in every requested discipline. His performances are a firework of art and jumps, highly scored and rarely reached by any competitor. Olympic Gold is what he won in 2014 and 2018. Favourite in 2022? That's Yuzuru Hanyu.

Thank you! Are all German media so clear-sighted about Yuzuru Hanyu?
I remember this Sportschau video of his Short Program at last Worlds, it had a well-deserved success, even with people who don't understand German.

Edit: Happy Anniversary @MaiKatze ! I had not noticed the date you joined GS! 🎂🍾🥳

Ah, Let me entertain you. I wish he would've stayed with it, it's my favourite of Yuzuru in the last few seasons.

I don't know about other newspapers, but my local newspaper was always fond of Yuzuru and they usually put up pictures of him as well, which is really something considering he is not german and not in a popular sport. I remember this going as far back as Sochi. I just realized, I first posted in Yuzuru's Fan Fest on GS 10 years ago. Time flies.....👵

Yuzuru Hanyu doesn't seem to be in Beijing yet, which probably mean that he will not participate in the Team Event.
Some attempts at explanations have been tried: that he wants to heal better (I hope he's completely healed), that his 4A needs lots of practice and that many days of official practices at Beijing wouldn't be sufficient, or that his not having participated in an international competition this season gives him the lesser priority among Men after JSF rules.
It is said that Shoma Uno would skate to the Short Program and Yuma Kagiyama to the Free.

Yuzuru is always fashionably late to the party.
Indeed! I must say I liked the title because it's so often so, and also because his short program is also a Where is Waldo in its way. Trying to spot the 6 crossovers is really difficult.

Anyway yesterday we had a "proof of life" by Nobunari Oda, who had tried to skate to Seimei with watered-down jumps and transitions and found it exhausting: Yuzuru Hanyu thanked him on his LINE account:

It is confirmed, Yuzuru Hanyu is not to skate the Short Program at Team Event. It will be Shoma Uno.

As to the Free, many presume it will be Yuma Kagiyama who's already in Beijing too.
From Roman Sadovsky's Fan Fest I understand that skaters who don't participate in the Team Event get very little time for on-ice practice, so it totally makes sense that Yuzuru has not arrived yet, as well as Mana Kawabe.

Was watching the Olympics opening ceremony by BBC, and the commentator during the nations parade commentary goes, Yuzuru Han-YA.
JAY-vier Fernandez, when reminding the viewers of past medallists of their respective countries.

I dread to think what pronunciation they're going to come with, once the competitions commence.
