Yuzuru Hanyu: 2021-22

How about if he just fakes out everyone until the last second with this 4A deal, then shifts into 5th gear and blows everyone off the road. Frankly, I think it would be more entertaining.
I honestly wonder about that… hence my earlier post about him “throwing it”. I mean, he’s smart. Why would he do this if he didn’t think he had a legit chance of landing it? That would be epic.

All the good luck in the universe for Yuzu for the SP!

Does anyone know around what time he'll perform? I hope to wake up for this:cheer:

If you are in Rumania as your flag suggests, it will be 6:19.
I'm off for his second practice without even loading the first! :eek2:

I won't lie, I'm just really bummed that Yuzu didn't get to skate like we all know he's capable of, regardless of score or placements. It's going to take a while for me to calm down enough to go to sleep... but I just absolutely want to send him all the love and support in the world to deliver everything he has in the free.

I totally gasped at the popped Quad Salchow, but Yuzuru didn't let it get to him and effect the rest of his skate - which was beautiful.

It's weird to see him in 8th, but he seems calm about it and I don't think it'll effect him mentally in the FS.

It's a bit of a pipe dream but I really hope he can get that 4A! Some people say he's not even close whereas others disagree so I'm not sure what the chances are.

But! If anyone can do it, Yuzu can!

I haven’t posted here in years, but wanted to drop in to support Yuzu. I was stunned to see the popped 4S. Such a shame. He’d certainly be in contention for gold had he not had that mistake. Glad he didn’t let it affect the rest of his skate and finished the routine beautifully.

Though his chances at a medal are pretty slim, the great thing is he has nothing to prove. He already has (2) OGM, and thus far has had a career many skaters can only dream of.

I hope on Wednesday we’ll see a repeat of his 2017 worlds performance where he was 5th after the SP, then skated lights out in the LP to win gold. I think he’d be fairly pleased to finished the Olympics with an outstanding performance even if it doesn’t come with an accompanying medal.

Not going to lie, I wish he'd made just one change, and that's scrapping the 4A. There's a slight chance it will get positive GOE to make it worth jumping for him. But the chance is very slight. I wish he'd go for the 4A at a different event than the OG. But then, my wish is for Hanyu to end up as high in the result list as possible, while Hanyu himself has a different priority. He wants the 4A first and foremost. May the skating deities stand by him in the FS, then

I too wish he’d scrap the 4A but it is his ultimate goal. And really he has nothing to lose by going for it.

Its been a while since I watched skating, but what happened to his 4Lo? Did he scrap it because he’s pursuing the 4A? Or did injury dictate the change? That was such a beautiful jump for him.

I wish him much success in the free skate.

Very sad how the SP played out for him. My selfish wish as a fan is to see him have a moment ala Mao in Sochi, and I don't really see that happening with the 4A. Is there any footage of him actually fully rotating it?

He was jumping a 4Lo last season as the first jump of his free skate, but I think he said at Japanese nationals that attempting a 4A was too difficult to allow him to put also a 4Lo or 4Lz in the program.

I"m glad he changed his free to add the 3a3L into a 3F. That is exactly the change I was hoping he'd do after Japanese Nationals. A 3A/3Loop is very rare and a thing of beauty and it would make me happy just to see that!!

Too bad about the 4S, but it happened. It can't be changed. I hope he's able to skate a free program that makes him happy. He's a 2xOlympic champion and that will always be the case.

I'd love to see the 4A, but i get the sense it's not quite there yet. However, sometimes a Hail Mary succeeds. I would never underestimate him.

At least my nerves are now calm for the rest of the competition. If he'd placed in the top 3 it would be so stressful, now it's just a case of let's see what a back to the wall Yuzu can do this time.
