Yuzuru Hanyu Lands 4LO

Congrats to Hanyu! I do feel sad for Alexei though, since it seems that he had thought he would be the first (I'm of the opinion that it should have been called UR, but it must be crushing to think you had something and find out you don't).

Great job!!! I LOVE this program even more than I thought I would. That choreographic slide that he does near the end of his step sequence is EVERYTHING. What is so incredible about Hanyu is the amount of detail put into the choreography- how perfectly in sync with the beat he is, how his movements match the lyrics, how he manages to put gestures even into his spins, and the moments he takes to have fun with the audience and judges. The jumps are incorporated seamlessly into the program and they almost become an afterthought because the performance as a whole is so engaging. This program reminds me of Parisienne Walkways in that regard.

Some notes: was he trying to tack a QUAD TOE onto the single sal? If he was trying to do a triple I feel like he could easily have gotten that landed. He also overrotated by a quarter turn.

Also, someone tell judge number one who gave him 7.75 in skating skills and transitions to meet me outside in the parking lot. :roll5:

No, I think it was just a bad 3T. Adding 4T from stand still of a pop does not make sense.

I was resigned that Alexei would have the first one because that's what the tech caller designated. But it's more credible that the first certified 4Lo should have a clean landing and better rotation.
I'm sure we will see more 4Lo's from Alexei that are clean and also other skaters who will attempt it this season. The race has just begun. Next hurdle, 4Lo in combination, a-la Boyang.

Also i'll just add that if he performs this clean at Skate Canada at least 1000 people in that poor arena are going to rupture an eardrum.

I just wanted to add that the botched combo caused him to rush through his spin somewhat. In the practice he had some really cool hand movements during the doughnut spin that didn't quite make it in, but yes, lots of little details that add to the performance.

Yeah, what the heck was up with that? I want to know what country that judge was from.

I also noticed some very questionable PCS for the ladies SP. :noshake:

I think it was classless and gutless of the ISU to not make an announcement and say that while Alexei's 4Lo would be in the record books for that comp, the ISU would NOT be ratifying it for their records. THEN ratify Hanyu's. Just sayin'. It almost looks like they thought about ratifying Alexei's until they saw Hanyu's.

Well....one was really good and the other was very clearly faulty. I think the right call was made and I'd hope Alexie is a good enough sport to know that he was very lucky to get the points he got for it. Had the landing not been so bad he probably would have been recognized as the first 4lo. Nice try though for him.
