Yuzuru Hanyu

The discussion between Photographer Yoshiki Kogaito and Scenographer Hiromitsu Konishi about the Photon exhibition at the Ryosokuin Temple in Kyoto is online until June 15th, this link has a teaser with viewpoints of the exhibition I hadn't seen yet:

This fan retrieved an interview of Satomi Ito from last November, where she speaks of her career, from it start, then making costumes for Mao Asada, trying and learning, then Yuzuru Hanyu's second Phantom of the Opera costume, which had to be done in two weeks after the Cup of China accident, as his team wouldn't be able to remove the blood on the first costume:

Here's the interview:

The May 10th interview of Yuzuru Hanyu by former Baseball player Shintaro Ejiri has been posted on Youtube:

Here's the transcript:

NekoMasamune took notice of the analogy of Shintaro Ejiri's 164 km/h ball launch with his own skating performance:

Olympic Channel in Russian is right, they say (automated translation) that one doesn't get tired of watching Yuzuru Hanyu, be it at practice or in competition. Just a warning though, one of the videos is of the popped salchow because of the big hole in the ice at Beijing Olympic Games, some may find it traumatic. I don't, because while it's clear for all those who watch frequently Figure Skating, that there was something abnormal with the ice, for someone who doesn't know, the moves remain nearly as fluid as usual even during and just after the pop, and resume the never seen fluidity and grace just after:

May 19th is Boxing Day in Japan, recalling the first Japanese World title in the discipline:

To fans of Yuzuru Hanyu, this generally reminds this cute advertising for an Olympic Day where he wore Boxing gauntlets/gloves:

The video is embedded here:

Nanami Abe, who coached Yuzuru Hanyu in Sendai before he relocated to Toronto, including his 2011-2012 Romeo 1, gave an interview to Kahoku Shimbun. The interview is mostly behind a paywall, but some interesting elements are in free access, including a practice photo I had never seen, and the information that Sing, Sing, Sing was first used for training sessions and she saw that Yuzuru Hanyu loved it:

Here's the interview, I post it here for the free part of the interview:

So incredibly beautiful!
What surprises me in this picture, is that the Masquerade costumes (there have been too, the first one was even more beautiful but a part was real leather and less comfortable to him, so it was fixed with a stretch fabric) have been made by Satomi Ito too, so she has made a special costume for this Photo Shoot, where Yuzuru Hanyu takes the Masquerade pose? Actually I believe that we'll have interviews of Satomi Ito, and she may tell us why she did so.

I also like that they had the good idea of photographing him on the ice: while it does take time to change costumes because of the duration of the skates change, and while managing the light on a rink for a photo shoot must be more difficult, how to say? Ice is Yuzuru Hanyu's element and he's not the same on ice and off ice.

I am reminded of how much I looooved Masquerade  Going to watch it again before bed.

The photo is amazing! So much expression in such a simple pose. And yes, Masquerade-ish indeed. Did he skate it for them at the photoshoot or just took this easily recognizable pose? Whichever way, they were so lucky to work with him on this gorgeous project!

Fans have also noted - which I admit escaped my attention - that he's wearing a red eyeliner for the photo. Wow!

... which led them to investigate the hair and make-up artist behind the "Couture on Ice" photobook and, yes, like many of those working with Yuzu he's not just very accomplished professional, but has a backstory of great and original projects.
