Shpilband on V&M's status, S&B's status, the short dance, and D&W's FD.

artonice interviewed Igor Shpilband at TEB. And he answered questions dance fans have really wanted to know the answers to:

http://www.artonice.it/?q=en/node/9771

Most important, Tessa's recovery is going well, and Igor thinks they might be back for Nationals, but are definitely aiming for Worlds.

Secondly, Evan is doing better, but although Emily and Evan are aiming for Nationals, Igor thinks they probably won't be able to compete there :( Emily has been working hard on the ice.

Igor also answered a number of questions about D&W and about the SD:

It is interesting that Igor attributes some of the problems with variability of calling the GW levels to unfamiliarity of the callers with the SD (this is something I had wondered about):

Shpilband: The SD is simple to understand, I mean, it was for us. Some were confused at the beginning, but we didn’t have any problem. The issue was how the Golden Waltz could be adapted as part of the SD, without losing the program value for the public. As everybody complained about people not watching the SD, the challenge is to make the GW section appealing to the audience. We were not worried about the technical aspect, but it is going to take some time for the technical specialist to understand how everything works in the SD. For most of the callers it was the first time seeing the SD at the GPs, therefore it is something different for everyone.

Also, changes are definitely happening with D&W's FD:

In my opinion their FD is the most complicated of the season. If you carefully watch it you notice that there aren’t empty moments in the whole dance, they are always performing a step, a transition, a spin. We chose to skate to a tango together: trying something new is the only way to move forward, even if four years is a long time (as previously said in other interviews, Meryl and Charlie want to take the seasons one at a time; editor’s note)

and

We are making other changes in this FD in order to make it more appealing.

An interesting read for any dance fan.

Very much so, Thanks Doris for this. I am very happy seeing Tessa is on track and they could come back in spring, I don't care much about the nationals, I just want to see them healthy and the new latin FD:thumbsup:

:) Ditto... I'm longing to see V/M's programs , but when they're ready .

When we saw the show version of their SD early on, it was hard to know what to think ,as we hadn't seen much to compare it to. Now, I definitely think it could be one of the best , if they have a chance to polish it ,add in the proper lifts, etc.

Nice article, although I find it funny that the interviewer referred to the "Shibutani brothers". Apparently we have our first all-male team. ;)
