:slink: put in articles that you yourself would want to read.

I like to include

1. Anything from Golden Skate

2.Most recent interviews

3. Oldest interviews

4. I prefer articles from skating magazines and websites to newspapers.

Thank you. That'll cut it down greatly! (phew!)

I can't find any articles about Sonia on Golden Skate, but there are a few interesting interviews elsewhere (in English and Spanish).

For Marta, I only found 2 articles altogether, but that was probably because I was searching for her full name ("Marta Garcia Orge"). Put it like this: after getting 87,000 results when I put the words "Marta Garcia" into YouTube, there was no way I was going to use the exact same search term on Google!!!

Thank you again

Try Marta Garcia figure skater in Google... ;)

Ah! Never thought of that! (Sometimes the simple things are the hardest to come to mind! )

By the way, I'm getting on rightly with the Sonia Lafuente articles. Of the ones that I posted links to already, I've decided to keep the ones where they have quotes from her, and discard the others. But, I'll leave it the way it is until I have my revised list finalised

Since your last post with the pointers, I decided to search specifically for interviews. And it has been working out well.

The only problem is, I've found a website with 4 audio interviews with Sonia, but there are no dates on them! So, since I don't speak Spanish, I can't work out when they were recorded! That said, one (and only one) of them has a title, which refers to her results in this year's Universiade. So, I would guess that they are probably all from this season.

It's times like this that I really wish people would reference things properly. It isn't hard to do, and it makes life so much easier for people coming behind afterwards.

Oh, the joys of researching!

It does! However, if the video interview is stored on a video site, it will have the upload date, which is helpful.

Many print articles have some form of the date embedded in the URL.

One does have to be careful of the difference between US and European date conventions.

Is 07 09 2015 July ninth or Sept. 7th.

Yeah, that is one thing I am finding useful for the YouTube videos. Even if you can't work out when something was recorded, you can at least say when it was uploaded. And, in most cases, it will not be too big a difference in dates. Although, occasionally you come across people uploading old videos years later. For example, in 2011, Frida uploaded a video of Sonia's Senior Worlds debut from 2008.

Many print articles have some form of the date embedded in the URL.

Aha! That could be a useful thing to remember. Thank you.

Unfortunately, in the case of these audio interviews, the addresses are pure gobbledygook. For example, the unique part of the address for that interview that refers to the Universiade in the title is:

aHR0cDovL21wMy1zb25ncy5way9zYy9maWxlLzE5MDExMzcxOS5tcDM

:hopelessness:

Which brings us to something I noticed when checking dates for the competition videos. The date format is not consistant on the Entries / Results pages, even for the ISU-run competitions. Some would be done the European way, some would be done the American way. And it isn't a case of it depended on which side of the Atlantic the competition was being held. Some of the European competitions were using the American date format.

As I am on the eastern side of the Atlantic, I have been using the European format when writing dates. However, to avoid any confusion, I never refer to the months by their number. I am always using either the full word or an abbreviation.

I hope that the people reading the Fan Fests are finding that this compromise works for them.

On a different note, I managed to find two more interviews with Marta Garcia! :cheer: So, thank you for the help!

I think that is pretty much all done for the two Spanish Ladies. So, I am now going to move onto getting Jenni Saarinen finished.

The ISU issues a season list each year with event dates spelled out. I have found these lists useful for figuring out when something happened
http://static.isu.org/media/207819/fs-intl-comps-2015-2016-update-for-website.pdf

http://www.isu.org/en/single-and-pa...nd-synchronized-skating-competitions-20122013

Unfortunately, the title of this document changes in format, so there is no fixed googling recipe that I have found for old seasons, but they are required by their constitution to provide such a list every season as an ISU Communication .

 CaroLiza_fan, you forgot the links!

Oops! :eek::

Well, I won't make the same mistake now. ;)

Just to let you know that I have now completed my update to Jenni Saarinen's thread. Here is the link:

I just updated Stepanova & Bukin's OP.
http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?53582-Alexandra-Stepanova-amp-Ivan-Bukin

I hope you find some stuff you haven't seen, perhaps including a GS interview with them from their first season in juniors!

http://www.goldenskate.com/2010/12/following-a-family-tradition/
These were the earliest videos I could find for them from their first JGP season. The OD choice for 2009-2010 was folk dance, and their music choice made me grin, from the "redgrass" Grammy nominated band Bering Strait. Too cute. It is a Russian folk/US country music fusion piece.

2009-10
SD Porushka-Paranya by Bering Strait
FD Latin Medley: Tequila by Azucar Moreno, Kiss of Fire by Caterina Valente, Oaeo by Reina Saba

2010 Russian Junior Championships Folk OD

2010 Russian Junior Championships FD

Recent gala links are few and far between because they have performed to Celine Dion's Surrender, which is geoblocked in the US.

Just to let you know that I have now completed the Original Post for Jenna McCorkell's Fan Fest.

OK, so I went a wee bit overboard on the article list(!)

I know Doris said to just include stories that you would want to read yourself but, frankly, I wanted to read them all!!! ;)

Seriously, though. Jenna has been around for a very long time, and hence there are a lot of stories about her. And now that she has retired, there will be less stories about her appearing. So, I felt that since I was looking them up anyway, I may as well take this opportunity to make as full an archive as I could.

Apart from anything else, it would make it easier for people coming along in the future wanting to find stories about Jenna.

I hope you don't mind me doing this.

By the way, before I start working on the last of my Fan Fests that I have left to update (Ashley Cain), I am going to make a few tweaks to the threads I have already updated. The reason being is that, since doing them, I have been looking at the threads that have been updated by other members, and there are a few ideas that I like, and want to pinch! ;)

I just finished Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje's OP. I wish I had been able to find a link to their new SOI program to Des'ree's Kissing You, but other than that, I had a lot of fun reading old articles and watching old programs!

I hope you guys will too! :)

Yes, it takes lots longer to do an OP for people with long careers-especially the parts where I watch all the videos and read all the articles :slink:
