ICE DANCE
I predict very close scores tween each team of ice dance pairings as indicated by my gaps. The gold battle -- Will judges prefer pretty lyrical gliding/musical spinning where boy does most of the basic difficulty, OR intricate, difficult steps, leaps of faith, jaw dropping lifts, tween very best GOE elements along with dynamic, spine-tingling storytelling, interpreted equally by mature balanced partnership of equals, showcasing superior chemistry? I am counting on V/M to gain back some momentum here and still creating surprise happy ending by peaking at O games...

1. Tessa VIRTUE/Scott MOIR
2. Gabriella PAPADAKIS/Guillaume CIZERON (perhaps even as low as 4th in SD, but will climb to 2nd overall)

A nail biter for Bronze but consistency of Shib sibs will ultimately win the day, if only by a hair...
3. Maia SHIBUTANI/Alex SHIBUTANI
4. Madison HUBBELL/Zachary DONOHUE

Wider gap in the race for 5th but this time Euro block component scores for former world champs-Italy#1 versus US#3 will likely carry the day if both teams are clean...
5. Anna CAPPELLINI/Luca LANOTTE
6. Madison CHOCK/Evan BATES

PAIRS
1. Wenjing SUI / Cong HAN
2. Meagan DUHAMEL / Eric RADFORD (I am betting on cleanly landed SBS 3lz, etc., and clean 4 throw, while others make mistakes to carry them back up into podium contention).
3. Aljona SAVCHENKO / Bruno MASSOT (massive component score beats much higher base value Russians by a hair)
4. Evgenia TARASOVA / Vladimir MOROZOV hmmn wake me up while they go, go...
5. Xiaoyu YU / Hao ZHANG (They won me over after SA performances...)
6. Ksenia STOLBOVA / Fedor KLIMOV potential to be 1st or 6th...

I watched V/M's program. Proportion of basic steps to intricate ones not very different from all other top teams. Maybe their dramatic upper body movements are creating the illusion that they are doing hard steps.

It's more likely that those with an untrained eye or much ice dance knowledge won't see those differences. ;)

Men’s Results

GOLD with 240 points: Artemisa, CaroLiza_fan, Caustica, jiawen2016, Kirei, lady_bee, nipman, Roast Toast, sequinsgalore, teamgoldengeese, Xorasy

SILVER with 190 points: breynows, draqq, Fish in the sea, Greta, halulupu, Jayson, MIM, NathanandMiraifan111, NYscorp5, Pandicorn, SherlockMarple, tulosai, ultravires, Weathergal, Yatagarasu, yoloaxel

BRONZE with 170 points: alyssamarie, AshWagsFan, Astrid56, change of edge, formersk8ter, IlVoloFan, jenaj, liv, Puchi, semosk8tfan, Spirals for Miles, voolfee

Congratulations to all the medalists! Also an extra congratulations to our gold medalists – they predicted all six skaters in the correct order! We also had quite a few people predict just the podium in the correct order. Great job everyone! :hap10:

The biggest “spoiler” for predictions was having Nathan Chen and Shoma Uno in reverse order. The other skaters who were switched in order quite frequently were Sergei Voronov and Adam Rippon. Mikhail Kolyada in third was by far the most correctly guessed skater with Jason Brown correctly guessed in sixth place fairly often.

For the Overall Men’s standings – for all six GPs and the final – the winners are:

GOLD with 515 points: Jiawen2016

SILVER with 480 points: Kirei

BRONZE with 475 points: nipman

Correction: In my exhaustion last evening, I had inadvertently given Jiawen2016 140 points for getting all six guesses right, but that, of course, should be 240 points. I've added Jiawen2016 to the list of gold medal winners above, but, more importantly, that changes Jiawen's total men's score to the correct one of 515, making Jiawen2016 the Overall Men's winner and shifting the other medalists down one place. Please accept my sincere apologies everyone for the error!

Congratulations everyone! :hap85:

Also if you haven’t joined yet, may I make a plug for the Nationals predictions game run by our very own CaroLiza_fan? It’s become a sentimental favorite of mine, and it’s helped me discover some wonderful skaters I might not have discovered otherwise – or at least not as early in their careers. We’ve just had two non-scoring rounds, but the first scoring round starts with Italian championships and Four Nationals championships next weekend. (There will also be non-scoring rounds that weekend for French championships and German championships.) Come join the fun!

Thanks so much to SnowWhite for organizing, to my fellow scorers, and to all the players. This board is such a wonderful place to visit! :thank:

I’ve added the scores to the spreadsheet. If you have any corrections, feel free to PM me.

No problem Weathergal! Thank you so much for putting all the efforts to calculate and record the scores! Wow! What a nice surprise to find out that I'm the Overall Men's winner :yahoo:! Maybe because I was so lucky to meet 5/6 who made the GP Final, having attended Skate Canada and Skate America myself!

Congratulations to other medalists and participants as well!

Wow, how cool that you got to attend Skate America and Skate Canada - and that you got to meet five out of the six finalists, especially Jason and Sergei. :luv17: Thanks for posting the link - great photos.

Such a surprise! TYVM! No skill here; just pure hatred for that "Candyman" LP.
