puremagic, I've enjoyed your all jokes about the "lordship" of Samarin and your devotion to him as a fan, but I don't think it's appropriate to alter other people's post when you quote because it misleads as if Doris actually put down the prank "Lord Samarin's supremacy" to the OP. I had to check it myself. To avoid any confusion, you'd better drop off the quote mark from your post. April fool's day is still far from January.

Back to the event, it's still aching that I see no Voronov on the list. It's great to hear that he decides to continue competing, but still the treatment for him is unfair. I'm also concerned about the fact that the event is held in Russia. Javi, the five-time Euro champion should deliver a clean SP because otherwise, well I fear for a worst scenario.

regarding Javier, I think that FS is his main problem this season - if he's in a good shape, he'll nail that SP in a get-go I think, this is a crowd pleaser with more sophisticated, elegant flourish all around that impresses a lot of people. The FS however could be a real toss-up, because (not counting Nationals) all 'main' contenders were kind of all over the place with their FS this season...Heck - nothing is already sure in books and this season really showed that, so every scenario is possible...

and about Voronov...well, I cannot help, but feel that if those 3 men sent to Euros are there to 'battle out'/confirm those 2 Olympic spots, it's quite silly and naïve, because Dmitri is even more all over the place than the rest with his FS in particular. With all respect to his talent and skills, he seems to have some problems with stamina (?) that show especially in the second part of his FS performances; Voronov, although older than him, looked more reliable and solid all season around, but failed in the most important time it seems - at Russian Nationals. This is generally a situation that might bite itself at the end of things...but sadness for Vorovov is real.

Javier's FS is at least better than sad soulless Elvis and that ear-bleeding empty rock mess from Samarin. I pray that Javier will have a decisive and well earned victory - I can't take any more shady judging this season especially after what they did to Sergei. It would also be nice if Bychenko could get another medal to finish his career on a high note. Go Dima, Deniss, Moris, Daniel...

His short is pure gorgeousness  So sophisticated. To me it shows just how much he has grown.

I want to like that long and I get what they were going for but no! The music cuts, the broadway ballad, etc. One of my main problems: Javi had one of the best, most authentic Spanish programs of the quad (and ever). To then use an overwrought adaptation of Cervantes' classic written by Americans is such a let down :noshake:. Sorry, just had to get that out :dev2:

i am so sad about Voronov not participating, I can hardly express how much. The men`s russian nationals was a pure Desaster with almost all of the Skaters making Major mistakes - I wonder how the hell the russian Fed dares to give someone like Samarin, who for me is skating on Advanced-Novice-Level - a Spot at Euros and totally ignores Voronovs Body of work during the last months.
I hope Kolyada has a good SP and free, as well as Javier; They would really deserve to be on top of the Podium.

I agree with you, Javi's LP is so disappointing, when I heard of it I thought it a great idea but alas ... uninspiring music, meh choreo and unbecoming costume - not the program one would wish to skate at Olympics...sigh...

And I don't remember it (maybe when I see it again :scratch2:) Must have been 2 months since France grand prix.

I'm not the most unbiased person when it comes to Javi, that's true  But I think the LP this season has great potential of showing his strengths. And it's very significant for him and his story in figure skating (both his programs are, which I appreciate).
The only problem with this program, I think, is that it toys the line between sensible and cheesy. And the line is a clean program. I feel like it's got the potential to be awesome and I can't wait to see it :p

I have problem with Javi's fs but really his fs programs have never satisfied me. The fact is Javi's international season's best is only 1 point higher than Kolyada's so this year fight will be real (last year Javi was clear favourite). My dream podium is Javi, Mikhail, Alexey no matter the combination. Also I want Daniel to have cleanish skate because when he is on he is a great skater to watch.

I also hope to see some amazing skate from Moris and Deniss as they are so fun to watch

I really love his freeskate program choreography, too but just wish to see him skating to it without faults... The costume is exactly right, it fits the era perfectly and I have started to like the singer, too, LOL. I was very disappointed with his GP France freeskate performance.

Before returning to the actual thread topic, a comment on Javi's FS. I was dead against the idea of Man of La Mancha in the spring when it started to be clear that it would be his FS music. A terrible idea - old man and all the ridiculousness etc. But come ACI in September, the first performance and I gotta say I was sold.

The program covers almost the full arc of the story in the musical with changing emotional content from the fighting knight errant to knight in love to the rather melancholy but gloriously hopeful (and pompous) end. Man of La Mancha is one of the few adaptations of Don Quijote where the hero ends up being noble, admired and respected instead of being a satire or just plain ridiculous.

The choreo allows the whole range of Javi's performance qualities and skills to be displayed in a way that would have not been possible even two years ago. Just take a look at how he woos Dulcinea with amazing credibility at the same time doing a quad, a 3A and a couple of other jumps. Who else could get anywhere near that (even when flawed technically)?

All I hope is that he gets the whole package under control and the Man of La Mancha emerges in all it's glory!

Let's go Alexei Bychenko, Daniel Samohin, Deniss Vasiljevs, and everyone else. Looks like I'll be waking up to results (Since it'll be starting at 3:45 am my time), but that's okay.
