Has Ilia Malinin already had his competition to try and secure the TES minimums for Worlds?

Wow so it doesn’t look like there are many retirements yet after the Olympics. Are these all confirmed? I thought Piper and Paul and Maddie and Zach in ice dance might finish up after the Olympics but I guess not! Does France only get one entry for the Ice Dance?

No, not all confirmed. These teams were named after their nationals and withdrawals and retirement announcements might start soon.

France only has one entry for Worlds and only had one at the Olympics because Gabby and Guillaume did not go to Worlds in 2021 and the team that went placed outside of top 10, securing only one place for this season. I think it was Lauriault and Le Gac that went.

It wasn't Lauriault and Le Gac however. They were sitting out so they could represent Canada which they now do.
Lopareva Brissault and Galyavieva Thauron went... but they didn't place high enough (16 and 17) to retain two spots.

Right!

Hopefully Gabby and Guillaume will go and get three spots back for France (and that we get to see them again). With home Worlds in France, I think they actually might.

i am pretty sure they will want to end their career in France... that will earn France 3 spots but will France uses them in 2023? We have seen in the past how they wouldn't bother filling up their quotas. However, they do have some good young teams.

Thanks - will be interesting to see who/if teams retire then.

That’s right - it was Loporeva and Brissaud who went instead, but I forgot they didn’t place high enough for France to get 2 spots.

Yeah you would think they would want to finish up in France. I would hope France would use the 3 spots if they get them - as you said, they have some good young teams so it would be good for them to get the experience.

Do you have a source for this? I'd like to add it to the Wikipedia.

There is a rumor going around France will ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing on their soil.
This was just tweeted by Jackie Wong:

“There is an email circulating w/in the French skating world from Nathalie Pechalat: French government will announce ’in the coming hours’ that ’until further notice, no Russian or Belarusian club or athlete will be able to participate in a competition in France’ “

It doesn´t come as a surprise really. Everybody should be prepared now that there will be Worlds without Russian athletes. If Worlds will still happen. Given the situation, if they were allowed to compete they would have major difficulties even getting out of Russia and fly to France with the airspace closed for Russian flights almost over whole Europe. The right thing to do is ban all Russian athletes as long as the war goes on. After IOCs statement today it will happen for almost every sport discipline I guess.
