Their style is so soft...it seems to suit slower ballroom dances much better

The Shibs should kill it in the FD hopefully. For all her talk, if this was the best that Marina could do for the Shibs for the SD though, either she's really missing her mojo or it was Igor who gave the fire to her pairs.

I am not a fan of paso doble in general but I think Shibs program is good, though I feel they did not show their usual energy, excellent score

Six teams got a choreo deduction at JGP Dresden in the SD. Perhaps the judges are the same as at Nebelhorn??

The SDances are very boring .W/P and C/B the best so far.I'm liking the junior Sambas much more !
Hoping S/B can bring it at Finlandia! Will be interesting to see P/C at French Masters too.

Iwhy did the junior teams receive a choreographic deduction. Their pattern dance was set so they wouldnt of broken that old rule.

I must say that overall these SDs are boring me as well. Before the season began I re-watched the pasos and flamencos from the 2001-2002 season...and I was soo excited to see what the teams would bring to the table this season...but i have been disappointed so far...I will still hold out hope since the season is yet young and I haven't seen all the top teams as yet but I really think the teams should watch the ODs from the 2002 olympic season and look at how Ilia Averbukh portrayed the character of the dance. Of course the French couple was spectacular and i loved the Lithuanians as well. I thought the choreo and characters these teams showed lit up the arena.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daXVLU0TJG4 2002 E Lobacheva Averbukh OD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bewtUDrpaI 2002 E Anissina Peizerat OD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV2w-otp0ks 2002 E Drobiazko Vanagas OD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxeWn69FQ24 2002 E FusarPoli Margaglio OD

I would have loved to see what V/M and D/W would do with these rhythms. They more suit V/M style but I think D/W range broadened from being on DWTS. I hope these teams return next season.

The silver samba pattern almost crosses the midline by design.

Here's the tech document
http://static.isu.org/media/156249/pattern-dance-elements-silver-samba.pdf

Junior: Two (2) Sequences of Silver Samba, skated separately. Step #1 of each Sequence must be skated on a different side of the ice surface. Specifications:  The description, chart and diagrams of the Pattern Dances are included in the ISU Handbook Ice Dance 2003.  Rule 608 paragraph 1 applies with the following alterations: - subparagraph b) – Placement: add “However, crossing the Long Axis in Steps 16 to 23 of Pattern Dance Elements Silver Samba is permitted.” - subparagraph d) – Timing: first sentence reads “The Pattern Dance Elements and Partial Step Sequence must be skated in strict time to the music with the start of the first Step of each Pattern Dance Element or Partial

Maybe they were over the long axis for step 15 or step 24?

In junior, it was the lower scoring teams that were penalized. They tend to be slower. Slower skaters make proportionally smaller patterns. They could be making the end cross more than 20m. from the end of the rink, although that seems unlikely to me?

Just watch the Shibs' finally! (I was asleep. :) ) I take it for what it is -- an early season outing that needs some more mileage. The Shibs, when it comes to SDs, have never been great in the early season. Even in their first senior season (their most successful) they finished 8th in the SD at their first event, Nebelhorn.

Namely more sharpness in movement is very much needed, which as TMC pointed out earlier, will be a challenge since their style is more lyrical and light and Paso is not exactly either of those things. However, I do notice some subtle improvements/changes in packaging/presentation.

They need to get those levels though! They lost a TON of points with a level 1 & 2 on the PD sequences and the level 2 on the step sequence. Had they got they would have been in the mid 60s. The execution of the elements was good and the judges obviously agreed.

I agree.Ilia was fantastic .I liked L/A OD even more than A/P .They really attacked the dance. The Eurosport commentators said at the time how masterful he was .Sergei Sakhnovsky was good too.

To be fair, the 2002 SLC teams did not have to deal with getting key points in their ODs! IF it seems a lot of teams are cautious it's because they're focus on getting the pattern correct and getting those levels. I suppose that's a critique of the scoring system, but I simply bring it up to explain why perhaps you're not seeing teams bring it on the character side.

Getting a level 3 or 4 with a cautious dance is worth more than being fierce and missing the key points. I think as the teams master the pattern, you'll see more character put in.

Virtue/Moir's Paso Doble CD at 2009 Worlds:

Yesterday Skate Canada had tweeted a throwback photo of V/M's CD:

(V/M's CD placed third -- after her surgery earlier in the season. Domnina/Shabalin first; Belbin/Agosto second; D/W fourth.

Final group of ladies is on the ice now. Good luck to Vika with Sunset Boulevard program that I absolutely love!!

PS: My wish didn't work:cry: I really love Viktoria, maybe she shouldn't compete in this condition, give herself time and prepare more.

Noone skates clean today:confused:

After her SP I had thought Joshi could be a factor for Euros podium. But she couldn't hold it together in the free. I hope she makes her jumps more stable as season progressing.

I liked the program, something original:yay:
