2014 Cup of China Mens Free Skate 11/08

It's not just the falls for the PCS. I at least got the feeling that his presentation just was not there, at all. It felt like he was depressed / in pain the entire time.

So, I guess this event is what happens when you put two teenage boys running on adrenaline into a competition (because that's what they are, and teenage boys tend to to dumb things)... (and yes, Hanyu (and Kovtun) were overmarked, but they'd still be second and first even with MUCH lower PCS so...)

I'm praying that Yuzuru and Han are ok...

Wow that was the most emotional competition in a while. I'll never forget it, that's for sure. I didn't see the crash happen, did Eurosport show it or did they come in later? Anyway, I had tears in my eyes during Yuzuru's performance. I was afraid he would collapse. But how he fought and what he did and how reacted at the end, for me he is the true hero of this Cup of China. What an awesome man. He is a gift!

I didn't see it on the stream I was watching. Then they went to commercials & had the camera zoomed out for the entire break and subsequent re-warm-up. Here's the video of the collision.

The Japanese telecast of the whole saga was so distasteful, with a sensational caption saying, "Hannyu to skate after the BIG incident". The commentators were praising him for his effort and apparently this event is "a night that will be remembered by the skating fans forever." No wonder figure skating is not taken seriously. Hennyu should be reprimanded for going out there with that injury. Showing such a poor performance after he and his team had failed to make the right judgement is not a cause for celebration of heroism. What about the effect this had on the other skaters?

I just can't stand this melodrama... And Hannyu doesn't seem to mind it, either.

Better to let your own knife-boots dictate your own results than those belonging to other skaters...

inflation is the only exception I can think of and to this day, no one understands why that even exists. Yuzu's PCs have followed this rule for as long as I can remember so something cray went on today.
STOP. He usually gets >90 PCS for his skate. Here he got 84.02!!!

you obviously don't understand, and will never understand the japanese way of thinking.
You'll be happy to know that I'm a proud Japanese. I even misspelt "celebration".
Seriously 根性論のドラマ仕立てはマジで恥ずかしいのでやめてほしいです。

Well Hanyu is 18y.o boy who thinks who is doing something heroic. I blame the coach and the referee of the event for not trying to explain the ridiculousness of the situation to the boy. I did not like Orser's behaviour in this situation. So irresponsible.

I agree. He was much slower and looked like he would blackout out any minute. Same goes to Han Yan.

The most ridiculous thing ever. I hope this set a precedent so ISU discuss the stupid rule that reward falls because it were rotated.
I mean, Kozuka knows perfectly rotate a quad and fall in his butt, may be he should to try 3 quads and to do podiums.

Hanyu already has a massive fan base here but NHK trophy will surely get even crazier! All the fans cheering for Hanyu :)

I'm chugging beers and it's 5:15AM here. This event was terrible.

I agree that his PCS should have been lower..maybe 75-80. But he still would have been 2nd so *shrug*
