2014 Rostelecom Cup Men's Free Skate 11/15

See my comments above RE: other skaters. Might have other comments once i watch the programs again.

As for defending Jason -- it's because people like to state "memes" (Jason should throw the quad cause he did so poorly or he hasn't mastered the triples) and I think it's important that people have the facts -- be it statistics past scores, TES, whatever. I would do that for any skater who I think is being perceived incorrectly, even if I'm not their fan. So yeah I'm bothered by the accusation of being an "over-the-top" fan cause I DO have my favorites, but I really go out of my way to acknowledge good skating and to defend skaters based on facts, even if I don't like them.

Ahh the always fair and reasonable Mrs P :)

Can't praise Javier enough for bringing us not one, but two very difficult, brilliantly choreographed programs.

Congrats to Javi on his GPF qualifications. I don't know if it's good or bad he in my view has officially joined the PChan club. Really generous scores there.

Good for Javi! Sorry, Sergei and Michal, but those performances should be kept for exhibitions! Great jumps but there's too much flailing and slippin' and slidin' through step sequences. I do not understand the artistry marks. Misha, too, a little over the top with the lyrics of the song on his shirt and lots of over emotion. But I guess some go for that. Good for Jason, overall a decent skate. Taka...I love your skating...such flow and pure artistry. I get it that he can't be marked well technically when he fails at so many jumps. But why aren't his artistry marks higher than the others? To me, there is such a distinction between with how Taka skates and the top 3.

I agree with you on Taka. Even when he is not at his best he is still beautiful to watch. I really think Taka should remove that 4T from his programs. He usually UR or falls on it thereby affecting the entire program. If there is any skater I wouldn't mind quadless its him.

Im super happy right now :cheer2: Javi made it to the finals and Misha almost snuck in for a bronze :cheer: Now I just have to stress about NHK :slink:

I'm very happy for Javi. :cheer:

I'm not a fan of Jason but I like him and I like his LP, not the SP though. Whether you are a fan or not you can't deny that he is good.
I don't understand the fuss about the quad. He has plenty of time to get it.

I am the same as you. I really like Jason's LP, not the SP, though. I don't mind about the quad. He's great to watch.

Sad about Taka. I wonder about his injuries :hopelessness:

I wonder about Michal Brezina 4T attempts in LP. Why is he still trying it ? I never saw him even rotating it

Brown had a decent freeskate, a much better programme than the sp one... I felt really sad for Kozuka, apparently he is not ready with his freeskate, yet. Voronov held it together (to my surprise) and earned the second place (although I don´t understand his high PCS scoring). Great that Brezina got the bronze medal here!!! And Fernandez, OMG, he has such wonderful, wonderful programmes that really bring points!!! I´m happy that he skated the freeskate here better than in Canada, Hopefully we will see from him better and better performances at the GPF, Europeans and Worlds!!! Congratulations for the gold medal and for making the GPF!!! Misha Ge (have not taken him seriously before this season) was also great and he interprets his both programmes so well with heart.

Esattamente!

Mrs. P - I always love your posts and analysis. You always offer a voice of reason made more interesting by your keeping track of scores over the course of events and often seasons and the way you notice changes in a skater, be they improvements or unusual errors or whatever. Personally, I love Jason's skating; too bad on the SP, but LP was nice and overall he should hold his head high (and keep doing all that living and learning and growing that he is clearly doing!).

I'm really thrilled that Javi is doing well - lot's to improve on, but darn, he's got some hard programs. And he'll in the GPF at home!! YAY!!!! When Voronov hits those jumps, that are pretty impressive, and pretty, and really impressive! Doing a dance for Ge right now, woot. Heart hurts a bit for Kazuka....but, I enjoyed this and thanks for all the videos and interesting comments!

I don't really like Jason Brown, general impression is very immature, poor technical skill and trying to do all the transitions possible while his performance suffers from it. He had only the 4. best PCS which just doesn't fly. I don't even like Fernandez too much but he's about 2 tiers above Brown in performing and actually has quads(And triples).

I also would have placed Misha Ge above Brown in PCS, even though I'm not really a huge fan of him either at least he's convincing.

I watched the videos one last time. Maybe you kill me ... but as an outsider I have a question: what made Voronov between two jumps on the ice? Wonder: would not be more simple to give the score only to jump and that's that? I fell asleep because I saw that nothing happened between two jumps

I adore Micha but place him above Jason... I think is an overhype.

I think you are overhyped. :laugh2:

What does this mean? Are you personally attacking another poster because they don't agree with your position on a skater? For example. I find an emphasis on quads quads quads to be dull dull dull, I find that Misha and Jason both skate with heart and with passion and with artistry that I like. I would never personally call someone names if they disagreed with me. Am I missing the point?

Some people are so passive agressive yet plays the victim card when someone says something in response. Lol its really ridculous :drama:

Never mind, El Henry. I wrote: I love Misha! And even Jason. But I think in this competition Jason was better. But I like to see both! What to HanDomi written in Italian is called simply: caffonaggine! (senza limiti)

I actually like the fact that he tries! Where is the point of playing it safe? You gotta take the risk. But that's just my opinion :)
