Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Oh sorry I wrote Riuchi, I mean Ryuji, someone said in the Team Japan thread that he didn´t get an assigment because he didn´t qualified.

His name is Ryuju Hino.

龍樹 in Kanji, which is commonly read Tatsuki, same as Machida, but different in Kanji (only 樹 (Tatsuki) for Machida's name).

The above way of reading, Ryuju, is very unique for that combination of Kanji. There might be some reason as his father is Russian. This is just my personal guess though. I hear he has a middle name. Usually, Japanese do not have.

On the contrary, Keiji Tanaka's Kanji is 刑事 and this combination means (police) detective. Although Keiji is a common name, this Kanji combination is not usually used as a name. I heard their parents gave him this name because they wanted him to have a righteous mind. By the way, his mother is Taiwanese. Japanese figure skating team is very international ;)

Anyway, their names are unique in a different meaning.

This is really interesting to read, thank you SuzyQ. I didn't know about Hino/Tanaka's mixed heritage! And Japanese first names can be sometimes very unique and unpredictable in reading without the aid of furigana

This is a bit old, but speaking of Japanese name reading, do you guys remember Beverley Smith's article that mentioned "Hanyu magic"? It's funny because there's a Japanese professional shogi player named Yoshiharu Habu with Habu written the same as Hanyuu (羽生) and he has a "spectacular finishing move" called "Habu magic". What a hilarious coincidence

A clean skate without quads might be a good compromise, in terms of making the final and not risking his health. I'm sure Yuzuru will be lovely to watch even without a quad. The question is whether anyone can convince him to try this.

I hope that Orser will be very hard on Yuzuru in this one and will somehow convince him to not do quads.

Looking how situation is shaping, Yuzuru will propably go on official practices and see if he can compete

I don't see Yuzuru going for program without quad....:rolleye: I guess he can simplify his layout to one quad in LP. With two 3As combos in second part of program and two Lzs he can score pretty well and land on podium (even with 2A at the end ). To be honest I don't think that he's going to give up on 4S and 4T in LP :drama::hopelessness:

We shouldn't think of it as "giving up" on 4S/4T. It's just a temporary break from quads because that's what his body could handle right now.

Has there been confirmation that Orser is even in Japan?

I am also concerned about this question. It seems that he is still not there (because if he is there will be news I believe). So I am getting less confident that Yuzu will be in NHK now:cry:

Well, if he's not at NHK that just means he'll be rested and ready to take on Machida and the other boys at Nationals, right?

I hope so  still have mixed feelings though. but I will follow his decision in the end.

I know the brothers who both were named “ * 樹” as their first names and also are pronounced “***ju”.
I find it unique as well. Their parents are both Japanese though.
And one of my uncles whose name is Keiji (means detective in Japanese,as you say), his job is a Keiji (刑事) literally (but different in kanji) :)

I am officially terrified. But as low of expectations I have, I hope he nails those programs! I have a feeling I am going to love his free and I would love to have a non-traumatizing version of it to watch!

Guess I will just support him in his decision, he best knows what is good for him after all while all of us will be holding our breaths one more time. I will have my Cuervo within arm's reach on Friday and Saturday.
