Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I also don't think it is anything physical that is affecting him, at least not affecting him greatly. He needs to take a few days off, calm his mind and hopefully get rid of whatever mental block/trauma he has. I think that his rush to get better for the NHK trophy just didn't give him the space and time needed for him to relax and recover mentally from the Cup of China.

:hopelessness: I don't know what to think. This is fate isn't it?

I am kind of glad that Yuzuru only got 1 fall, though. At least the pop jumps doesn't look bad as the fall.

I am worried about his health condition. Now we have GPF and Nationals... To worry over him. More heart attack. :sarcasm:

But anyways congrats and best luck to him.

Well think of it this way. He was extremely determined to get into the GPF (see COC and now NHK). His goal was definitely the GPF and to skate with Javier. If he didn't manage to qualify for the GPF I would be so very sure that he would be feeling gutted and sad at this point in time. Now that he has qualified, I'm certain he is feeling so much better now!

Knowing how Yuzu is, he probably will be very happy that he qualified, and not very happy with his skate and will apologize and stuff. Don't apologize! You tried your best and accomplished what you really wanted, to get to the GPF. All I can say is cheer up and keep moving forward because you were amazing today regardless of what others think :)

I totally agree :)

@skateyamada, I agree with you on this. Maybe it's due to all the pressure Yuzuru felt after winning the previous GPF, OGM and Worlds all in one season. That's pretty overwhelming by itself ... I remember in an official press conference he said that the challenge for the road to 2018 Olympics is to overcome himself (in a way). Yuzu said that he is his own rival and we're really seeing that in this season.

I just read your comment and laughed at your prediction! It would be amazing if he had like, a total of 5 different costumes prepared for his POTO program. Each separately made for the times he wanted a wardrobe change out of nowhere. I'm still in shock over the costume, is that a bad thing?

Not at all. It's understandable. I think you'll come to like it though. I consider myself a very critical person when it comes to costumes but after seeing pictures of it, I must say it's actually not that bad, and Yuzuru looks nice in it. I still do prefer the other one, just b/c of the color black.

Sorry Meoima, I laughed too :laugh2: :slink:

Edit: Since Yuzuru isn't pleased with his LP performance here at NHK, does that mean he'll change his costume again?

 What color should it be this time though?

BTW, Meoima , how can you be so sure when you have to count on Jeremy Abbot (poor him, I really hope he has a clean skate with quad one day!).

 yeah, I shouldn't have counted on Jeremy. But Yuzuru fought really hard as well. People are talking as if he's lucky but in fact he had to go out and skated his heart out to get that spot to GPF. Such a foolish boy. But I respect him for that.

If anything I'd say Yuzuru's best luck of the season has yet to come. :drama: I can see this season there will be lots of dramas. If the pattern is right for Yuzuru. We will see his best free skate at the end of the season.

Congrats and be happy for Yuzuru.
I really enjoy his FS today.:)

And the costume looks okay. Not as tedious as the Juliet costume IMO. And you know who is talking. :hijacked:

The only thing I was missing from Yuzuru was his natural fire and attack. Something is not working. I don't know if it is head, or his body can't do what he wants. I really think Mr Orser should sit with him and talk seriously to get out 4S for GPF and try to skate clean. He has a lot of pressure and he is putting even more with that 4S

I really thought it was over for Yuzuru but wow, can't believe he still got into the GPF by just 0.15 points. Like what Mrs. P said at the NHK Trophy thread, Yuzuru should thank Jeremy for popping the 3lz, and Jason should probably get mad at Jeremy for not fully rotating it

It didn't even have to be the lutz - if he didn't stumble in his spin and lose a level, or if he tacked on a single toe to his 2nd 3A, it wouldn't been enough. Alas, such is this crazy sport we follow.

actually I don't mind if he still put that 4S in the program and pop it into 2s or 3S. As long as he doesn't fall.
And it seems that his body is not ready. his left leg has not much power (hence the fall on the quad toe). I think it's mostly because of his health and partially mental because he is conscious that his body is not ready.

:) Yes, let's be happy Yuzuru accomplished what he has set out to do which is to make it to the GPF. Otherwise, I think he probably will not be as happy as he should be at his coming-of-age birthday on December 7. I hope his GPF SP and LP performance will be his birthday gift to himself and to us his fans.

Despite his young age, life has already thrown him a couple of curve balls (the 2011 earthquake, this year's CoC collision, both of which coincidentally or not found him on the skating rink), but somehow he has managed to, using his own imagery, catch the ball. ;) Proud of him and proud to be a fan.

I'm a little sad that Yuzuru didn't medal. But I'm more happy and focused on that he made the GPF! :D yayyyyyyy! At least he has about 12ish days until the GPF!

My body must have had an internal clock to wake up cause I woke up before my 7:30 am alarm to check the results. Lol.

And how the hell did he have another costume prepared for the POTO program?! WOW! (that's a neutral reaction, not sure if I like it yet ...)

Figure skating has never been this exciting (in both good and bad ways), hahaha

I love the new LP costume! Gorgeous! This one looks like it was made in a fashion house. Not too many of those around. I liked the CoC costume too, although it was quite traditional, but I don't expect to see it ever again. Bad vibes and all...

Intriguing idea to have a new costume in every competition, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone ever again. Look what happend to Tessa Virtue last year. I think many people were confused of what their FD was all about and what the feeling of it was supposed to be since she change her dress in every international competition that I saw.

I had been worried as Yuzuru kept saying "as an Olympic champion" thing too much in the interview etc. He seemed to have been determined to win every competition this season, although he himself said he might lose.

CoC and NHK ended, and anyway he could not make it. I really hope this would cool his head, and stop pushing himself too much.

But, the reality is, it might affect reversely, I'm afraid .
In the interview after the FS, he seemed to be determined further, saying "Kuyashii desu !" - I'm sooo disappointed and frustrated.

Oh, boy :drama:

By the way, Congratulations to Daisuke Murakami !

He used to be called one of "3M" (Machida, Mura and Murakami) as next Japanese figure skating hopes, but he was not able to achieve good results these years. Another good rival for Yuzuru.

So Yuzuru made the finals?. I'm happy for him since that's what he wanted. Wish he doesn't push himself too much. Anyway good luck Yuzuru!

Can someone told me what Yuzuru just say on the interview?

(I just tried to explain the general idea :))

He said it was regretful. He deeply apologized (for poor performance) though there was huge support from audiences.
He regretted that he had said it would not be perfect performances from beginning, it might make audiences be worried that he couldn't practice enough because of the injury while watching his performance.
He refused that his performance was affected by injuries, he said the result was from his current “ability”.
(When he knew that he was qualified for GPF)
He was surprised. He though finally his effort in COC was not wasteful.

He didn't do Biellmann in the long. I wonder why...

Yeah I wondered about that too. I was hoping to see his Biellmann but weirdly he still stuck to the A spin... Could it be that he hasn't fully recovered from his back injury?
