State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

Up to the JGPF I liked Serafima better than Evgenia. I can't really point what I like about her, but every time she competes I cheer for her. I find it odd because I can see that Evgenia's jumps, spins and tano are better. She seems more "organized" on the ice. One thing I'm not a fan, though, is the music she skates to. I would like to see her skating to something quicker and energetic, but that's personal preference.
 
Evgenia is my favorite junior too. I like Serafima but she's just a little too sloppy for me. She reminds me so much of Irina Slutskaya: lots of speed, big and messy jumps, not so great on the landings, but full of power. Serafima isn't as rough around the edges as Irina was, but she still needs work.

Nationals is going to be really interesting this year with so many strong junior skaters competing on the senior level. I wouldn't be surprised if Evgenia or Serafima landed on the podium....

Perfectly said. I do find Serafima a bit sloppy and wild with her movements. Evgenia has polish, musical sophistication and the superb technique. You don't need to make all jumps a tano as well. As a skater, dancer and singer- the important thing that I look to is musical connection. It's something that Carolina Kostner, Akiko Suzuki and Michelle Kwan have in abundance. So aside from the technique, the beauty, and the skills-this is something I want these girls to have. I sense this with Elena Radionova.

Julia is incredible as well. I just don't see her really connecting with the music. I reckon, it's something that will hopefully come in due time.

When Anna is on, she is just mind blowing, her only issue is she also doesn't connect with the music. She also lacks the refinement in movement.

Evgenia is the best for me, followed closely by Elena Radionova and Elizaveta! The 3 E's (E for Excellent!) :)

She sounds very convinced of the fact that she'll be able to go to Europeans if she is physically ready in time.
To me this gives the impression that the fed implied to her and her coach that she'll get one of the tickets one way or another, if she "wants" to have it.
Or does the real choice of words sound differently and is lost in translation?
 
I don't think they're that confident at all... it's a goal and from translation they said it could be "meaningless'

Let's just see what happens at russian nationals...if Pogorilaya bombs(she doesn't have a good history performing at nationals) and Yulia doesn't win(she hasn't yet) then there may be a case for sending Sotnikova to euros.

I just think it would be a waste if she comes back now... if she goes to Euros or Worlds then she'll pretty much be obliged to come up with whole new programs even if she skates these just once internationally.

She would probably find this insulting, but there is a skating opportunity open to her that isn't open to any of the other Russian ladies... the Winter Universiade. She could do the Universiade and the Team Trophy and keep the same programs for later(not necessarily next year).

I don't know about Serafima, but Evgenia is 15. What would happen if one of them or Maria Sotskova or Pogorilaya finish in the top 3? I assume they are ineligible for senior worlds.

She is the reigning Olympic champion, and she missed the season due to injury, not because she would be lazy and not bothered to compete. I think it is fair if she is sent to Europeans (if she is ready), and then based on the results from Europeans they could decide whether she deserves spot at worlds. (they have only two spots at worlds, so the lowest skater from those three that are sent to Europeans would not be sent to worlds).

I don't think it is unfair. Except of Radionova and Tuktamysheva, it is not like if anyone else from ladies was having stellar season. Lipnitskaya, Pogorilaya and Leonova were very much inconsistent and Artemeva was not very good at all.

Pogorilaya is eligible. Proklova, Sotskova, Medvedeva and Sakhanovich are ineligible. They will be senior eligible the next season.

Based on the results of the 2014 Worlds, Russia has 3 spots.

I think it depends on how everyone does at Nationals. I think it would be unfair for Adelina to be sent if everyone skates well. But if Yulia and Anna both bomb Nationals... I say, let Adelina go to Europeans.
 
The depth of talent amongst the Russian ladies is just amazing. What a great time.

It feels like Russian Nationals has now officially overtaken the US Nationals and Japanese Nationals.

It feels like a World Championship in Russia. May the best girls win!

Soooo Adelina gets a private test skate before judges and if she does semi okay she goes to Euros regardless of what happens at Nats? Am I reading that correctly? The Vice President of Russian FS also throws in some shots at Yulias OGM. Such class. That article is all sorts of ***.

Adelina has the highest scoring potential not only among the Russian women, but of any active skater. If she is healthy I don't see the problem of sending her to Euros in place of the Russian bronze medalist. If Julia skates well she will be first or second; if not it means that she will have had four disappointing competitions this season. Although people complain about it, Adelina is the first ladies OGM from Russia and is being treated by her federation the same as any other OGMist.

I don't think he was trying to held down Yulia, TBH. He's simply saying that the individual OGM is more important that an OGM in team, and that's true. Adelina is the ladies Olympic Champion, and they have their own rules.
I see nothing wrong with sending her, if she is ready.
 
I'm so pumped for Russian ladies nationals! Glad it's during Christmas break for me, so I'll have no excuse on missing this one.

I normally don't use sportbox.ru for streaming video. Typically, how are the live streams during these events? Reliable? Decent quality? Thanks!
