Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Remember those pics of Yuzuru, Javier, and Misha Ge at Finlandia Trophy 2012? Does anyone know whose phone he was using then?

CBC podcast of the GPF
You need to be in Canada or have a VPN to listen though :(
They talk about Yuzu's AMAZING jump technique. Kurt totally fangirls his jumps. :laugh2:

Thank you for letting us know! I just checked the site last night and didn't see the podcast uploaded yet :P
I've recorded the file for those who can't access the CBC site. The original CBC podcast used the Canadian pairs team medalist as the background picture...so I changed it to include all senior medalists on my uploaded file instead XDD

If you want to just listen to Yuzu's part, you can jump right ahead to 7m30s. But the overall podcast is quite interesting, so do listen to the rest of it if you have a chance :)

Okay so apparently this cellphone thing...that gossip magazine totally took things out of context! It came from a conversation during the press con when he said he had not report his win to his family and his coaches/teachers yet, citing fatigue and time constraint. Then the reporter caught up with him after the press con and asked him if he really has not said anything to them.(I don't know why they were so hung up on this...). He said:" I don't have a cellphone. So even if I want to I can't, right? I only have an ipod."

And the magazine then went on to write about how he wants a cellphone from that remark...:slink:

Thank you for your explanation Firal!
Maybe he didn't have a cellphone with him at that moment!
Or he was scared that the next gossip reporter's question could be "please, give me your number!" :slink:

 Well I'm with Kurt on that. Bias aside, Yuzuru's jumps are just so aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, much more than any other male skater (past and present IMO). A majority of the men I feel like "falls" out of their jumps and it just doesn't look "smooth like butter". Their axis also changes mid-air and I don't like that, especially when its in solo motion. His thin body type also helps maintain that smoothness that's I feel is unique to his jumps and his air position is just  Adding to that the height and distance he gets on those jumps, it makes me swoon :drama:

Oh, OK. Thanks for the clarity!

You're welcome.

One particular thing that I like about his jumping technique is his position out of the jumps which are classic and held well, they scream "Look what I just did! This is A Jump!" ( Also, sometimes it comes with a fantastic stare too) I don't like when male skaters come out with an unsteady position or just do it quickly.

Count me in! Hanyu's jumps are soooo unique and beautiful. No one has his ease when jumping.
That said, sometimes I think his quads look too easy so that it doesn't give enough impact to what an amazing thing he's doing.
Mura, for instance lands his quads like dropping a bomb. Just different styles and each quite extraordinary.

EDIT: I agree about his stare though, and holding his landing position beautifully. I call it 'the world is my footstool' stare. Love it.

It's really hard to explain in words what it is about Hanyu's jumps that are so easy on the eyes. I think if you have ever seen footage of Michael Jackson dancing when he was in his prime it is something quite similar. Everything is precise, lightning fast, and done magically with a look of ease. It isn't anything that can be coached outside of the basics but the separating factor to me is a noticeable personal touch that they have each put on something so familiar. I guess the best way to say it is that plain and simple ..... it is like electricity. You can't change what it is but you can decide where it goes and how to shape the path that it uses to get there.

Can you tell I like his jumps :cheer:

It was really nice listening to Kurt and PJ discuss the GPF and gush at Yuzu's jumps because almost everyone loves his jumps (maybe I'm just biased), it's evident that Yuzu's jumps are indeed special. Now that I'm in Canada, I can take advantage of that and listen to the CBC podcasts (which are very interesting)!

I went through and listened to the GPF 2013 Aftershow Podcast on the CBC website: they mention the men's programs at 9:33, and discuss Yuzu's jumping/skating at around 15:50. Something that made me laugh out loud was how Kurt said Yuzu's Romeo and Juliet no.2 costume was apparently "killing him" (he couldn't take it seriously). :p

Love the British recap. The calming voice makes it sounds like one of those historian recounts.

Thank you for sharing these links, otherwise I would probably have missed them!!

Here are the GPF videos I've uploaded to my DM account:
- NBC Yuzu FS, NBC fluff
- CBC Yuzu FS, CBC fluff, Kurt & PJ's predictions before the competition
- British ESP recap ver of Yuzu's SP & FS, the commentary is different from the live broadcast version

I think for most of the files there are already links by other uploaders, but since I uploaded the files to DM anyways, just thought I'd share here in case anyone is interested :) For the CBC & NBC files, I used the ipad to record the TV screen, so this is the best of my ability to make the file as clear as possible:p. Oh I've also uploaded Javi's NBC & CBC FS as well...so feel free to check out the rest of the files on my DM account!

Count me in as someone who is looking forward to Japan Nationals more than Christmas...Crossing my fingers that there will a stream available somehow...PLEASE!! I need to witness the bloodbath live!

its gonna be like watching gladiators and we are enjoying every fist and blood drop

loved the way you described it

and here are some translations from 311mi tumblr page
"No Matter What, I Will Skate."
“Yuzuru is really a crazy kid. Why does he still think about his fans when he’s in such a situation? To even skate this time around is a dangerous choice by itself. However, this kind of Yuzuru makes me very proud of him.”
well brian we all felt the same way

Excerpt from Team Brian

now we know what he is planning to do for the future :cheer:

and here is Javi mimicking yuzu for a change :laugh2:
