Mind if I ask what would be the consequences of not attending Euros? I mean, does it have any influence on being chosen for Worlds?

Well if the skaters sent to Euros have good performances there then they'll most likely make up the senior Worlds team, the skaters need to stay in favour so they can get international assignments in a country with a field so deep. Also if they skate well at Euros, it'll be good momentum going into Worlds

I'm not going to give up on Yulia yet but I do have a feeling that a junior will make it onto the podium, most likely Evgenia or Serafima

I think Yulia would need to skate well to hold off Evgenia and Serafima. But she could still be #3 among the seniors; Anna tends to do badly at Nationals, and Alena's free skates this season haven't turned out any better than Yulia's.

Alena and Julia have very different skating styles, and sure, Alena hasn't had a flawless free skate recently... but you really think Alena's last free skate wasn't any better than Julia's? At least Alena fought for it and stayed on her feet. Julia's last FS was a disaster... she was barely a point above Rika Hongo at the GPF, who was sitting in last place.

Nine pages of arguing, and for what? Adelina won't be at Euros. A torn ligament is a season-ending injury. Ligaments and tendons aren't to be messed with and take a LONG time to heal.

Liza and Elena are the two obviously best Russian ladies this season and deserve to go regardless of the Nationals results. As to the third, I'd give it to Alena or Anna.

My feeling is that Julia still would have competed on the GP circuit, even if she knew she had a bye at Nationals to Euros. After all, the GP is where you develop clout on the world stage, not just amongst Russians.

Honestly, Julia probably should have sat out the GP because she has lost her clout with her performances this season. Her PCS is essentially the same as Liza and Elena now when they all skate well (GPF SP, for example) which wasn't the case last year.

PCS scores are pretty much placeholders and are highly bound to TES... Liza had a higher TES and Pogorilaya was probably more the frame of reference for Radionova. The judging is not really different than the previous grand prixs. If there had been no edge call Yulia's PCS would have magically went up at least 1 point.

I'm not sure. The edge call doesn't impact performance, whereas a step-out or a fall does.

I do not want to comment the case when the coach is trying to create a conflict showing her weakness and the lack of professionalism. I feel negative towards stuff like that. One has to go and prove at the rink. No one prevented Lipnitskaia from winning the Olympics if she is so great. This whole conflict began then.

All the drama makes me shocked here :shocked: Team Adelina and Team Julia fighting for a probable third spot at Euros is a little bit ridiculous. Neither of them looks ready to make the European podium this season so far. The words of officials are just irritating, and will put more pressure on every skater.

At this point I wish Pogorilaya skates the way she can do her best and makes top 2. I'm sad for her that she doesn't have a politically effective coach or force supporting her. Go my beautiful and talented Anna

There are some people who are skeptical over the authenticity of the injury. The timings of withdrawals from the Grand Prix series were quite coincidental though. I hope she just relax and focus on her recovery for the next season since she said she aims for 2018 Olympics.

As for Leonova and Anna, they tend to bomb at the Nationals, but the short program by Leonova at NHK was a pleasant surprise.

Weren't you all about 'fairness'? Anna did better than Yulia in the GP series. If Adelina gets no special consideration for being the Olympic champion (and injured), then Yulia shouldn't get any for being European champion.

Note: I don't even disagree with the point you're making. I think it's a decent reason to send Yulia if Anna doesn't do notably better. Just pointing out the discrepancy here...

I think Eteri is mostly right... that Adelina's first skate shouldn't be Euros... but Eteri's comments were way more rude. Eteri was likely triggered by Yulia being mentioned by name by the official(If she's in 3rd, not a good skate.)... but her concerns should have been addressed in a better manner.
