Yulia Lipnitskaya

As per her social media comments, don't take this personally, but I seriously think it's a freaking weird thing to analyse and check how skaters (or anybody for that matter) manage their social media. Is there anyting wrong going on with her social media? Is she out of the ordinary in that aspect? What's the problem there, exactly?

It is weird... but what makes it noticeable is the comparison to Radionova who completely ignores instagram and her public vk before competitions. You thought the sleeping thing was weird(and it is), but it was made noticeable in comparison to Radionova who is almost never up late on it. If skating were a sport you could gamble on then this is the type of information that would be valuable. If I had to gamble on who will have the more successful long term career, it's no contest for Radionova who right now seems to have much more stability and focus in her life.

As far as "out of the ordinary" usage of social media, well she changed her profile pic to 'The End" and set it private for a little bit after national. If it was worth it for her to do that, then I have a hard time seeing it being a minor part of her attention.

From my vantage point, the possible problem with Yulia's use of social media is that it's a distracting form of empty social validation that may counter-productively make her more self conscious while she skates. If she makes a mistake these days I think she may have heightened thoughts of guilt and shame racing through her mind which make it harder for her to recover.

I disagree with my "1 post a month" advice above now... but I do think it would be wise for her to "fast" from public social media for a few days before big competitions.

Mainly I see love and support on her social media and it looks like she uses it to bring herself up rather than being brought down.

Yes, but...
1) There will always be trolls whose comments will bite hard
2) She gets a lot of comments... and reading them all has to be quite a chore
3) That social validation she receives by posting selfies may subconsciously influence how hard she will work to receive social validation by skating well.
4) Those positive comments and likes may manifest themselves as feelings of guilt and shame if she makes a mistake.

Ilia Averbukh said something like that Yulia shouldn't be criticized or praised too much this year... and quite honestly, I don't the messages she's receiving from Instagram are all that healthy for her.

Radionova is Radionova, a completely different person. Why not take into comparison other skaters then, who are very active in social medias? What can we say about Liza who's very active, and makes parties as well. So Radionova doesn't care about instragram. What does that prove? That she is going to bed at 10 PM? Have you checked her?

How do you know she isn't posting picture, or whatever, on the way home from her cell phone?

What's strange about posting "The End" also, and later post the sun shining?
I wouldn't read too much into it, but if you want read something why not: A circle is closed (a bad one in this case), and a new one (day) is/will open which is going to shine ?

I really think this is absurd. How did you come up with all that?
You are projecting some fears and ideas about social media that you might have on her.
She probably don't have the time or the pleasure and will to read half of the things are written on her, social or newspaper.

Again, I still don't understand how this has become a problem? She had a very bad year in juniors as well. Were the social media to blame about it?

In response to this comment and all of the foregoing comments that present conjectures about what Yulia does or should do or has done, none of which can have any foundation in reality whatsoever, let us always remember what Yulia tells us (through interviews) is the first and foremost condition contributing to her stress and exhaustion:

”Whatever you do, everything is interpreted the wrong way and then has to be justified,” Lipnitskaya said, according to the AP. ”It’s not life, it’s constant stress. (from http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/11/julia-lipnitskaia-figure-skating-olympics-pressure/ )

Either we can prove our affection and admiration by respecting her, or we can contribute to her malaise with destructive arrogant pontifications. She has told us what she wants us to know in interviews. We need only show her that we have listened and care enough to respect the boundaries that she requires in order to succeed.

At this point, it's definitely mental despite the fact that she's done several perfect triple flips in practice and in the SP she has not landed a single one in the FS, and unlike before she's not fully committing to every jump. You can tell especially in the recent FS that she had already decided not to go for it. I hope now she can relax and sort it out. I will never stop rooting for her because she is the best Ladies skater ever.

I think changing the layout so many times was a mistake. That's easy to say in hindsight though. The triple (f)lutz has always been the most consistent jump for her. Other than the pop at COC FS she has never missed other than at COR. So I think they should have stuck with that. But whatever the problem with the 3F is I am sure she can fix it because she still does nice ones in the SP. All the shenanigans with the team selections were a horrible idea, though. Not sending the European champion and de facto Wrld champion will be a mistake.

So now Kogan is saying if Yulia can get back to form she could once again be given a chance to continue her season. Even suggesting she could be sent to worlds. However unlikely that is it sounds like those are what his words imply.

I think he is just covering for the negative press that was prior to Nationals. Regardless of her performance this season, she is a fan favorite and it's bad for PR for many people to speak negatively about her/her coach. This way it looks like Yulia/her team is making the choice to not compete for a spot at Worlds should she not go to the Russian Cup.

OMG.....that Ina Bauer!!!! Ive never seen her skate in person but it seemes to cover so much more ice than I had expected and at such a fast speed. (Maybe it was just the angle) Overall Id say some really good moments there and her jumps looked alright even. Kind of makes me want to :bang: Oh what could have been.

Ughh so gorgeous, so much potential, so much talent, if only she had brought that into the competition. But her facial expression seems so sad and doubtfull, it must be really hard for her, not living up to last seasons expectations.

IMO, things could go well or worse if she decides to continue her season. She could finish on a good note at a "B" competition with a 1st place finish or not even medal there and further worsen her mojo. But we'll never know until she announces what she'll do next...

I was actually glad when Yulia recently made her instagram private and disappointed when she made it public again. IMO, either Yulia should have someone else manage all of her major social media pages or she should limit her public messages to once a month and as much as she wants after successful public skating outings.

yes! yes! yes! first time i've read anyone say this which i've thought since sochi individuals where she became instant celebrity and started falling due to apparent stage fright
