Yulia Lipnitskaya

I highly doubt she will change her coach. Even with the Federation's pressure. Besides, no clear source of these news were posted here or on russian boards. So maybe it's someone's wishful thinking.

Count me among them. ;) Not that I wish Yulia to change coach, let alone contrary of her will. Besides I love Eteri, althought it's true that she does have too many elite skaters now. But whether it's for Yulia or for the club, I would really love to see Tchaikovskaya working there as well.

So the story now is that both Tchaikovskaya's skating school and Khrustalny (where Yulia skates) are under the supervision of Sambo 70 sports school. Khrustalny was taken over in 2013, and Tchaikovskaya's school in July 2014. So if they want to make a joint centre for figure skating, Tchaikovskaya as a more experienced and influential figure is a clear candidate as a head coach. That's an 'if'.
Why does it have to be about Yulia?

That's what I'm saying. We know nothing, so basically we are just speculating here, and it doesn't mean that this is related with Yulia.

The greatest compensation for pessimism is that one is happiest when wrong. Let's keep the champagne handy just in case.

We know a little more than nothing. It sounds like a classic case of information being leaked by legitimate sources, and judging from the players involved something important is imminent. Mat specifically mentions Yulia. If Laishev's career is jeopardized, so much the better. I don't regard that as politics, it better resembles good management in the aftermath of Yulia's experience. If Eteri were criticized after doing a good job, then it would be dirty politics. Yulia's struggle wore Eteri down as she stood by helpless, watching her favorite suffer. Her love for Yulia is beyond dispute. She would be the first to step forward to prevent another R&J. We don't know details, but the leaks indicate a comprehensive approach that will require time to stucture. I wouldn't be surprised if Putin were involved after seeing him with Yulia at the Olympics. Intervention by important people on her behalf will help her deal with the negative effects of press and internet. The truth will come out soon. In the meantime, I will stick with Alba's option #3. Please speculate freely and frequently.

Our girl is strong-willed, she will not do as people tell her if she doesn't want to. They couldn't force her to change coach. If she does so on her own term there's no problem. For the mean time it's too soon for any speculation IMO.

That's for sure. If they don't listen to her, or even worse try to shape her, she should run for the nearest country without delay. Let's hope they are smarter than that.

I don't know anything about the politics and personalities involved, so I can learn a lot from Fayruza, Mat and Alba as they speculate. The less we know, the more fun to speculate. There is a lot of reality in good fiction.

Mat mentioned Yulia but he/she said it was his/her opinion not an information.
The rumor for the moment is that Tchaikovskaya's skating school is being merged with Sambo70, Yulia's club. So most probably Tchaikovskaya is going to be the head coach. I think this is very good, in general, for their club. Now, what does this mean with regards to Yulia we'll have to wait and see. If Laishev, or anybody else will put all their efforts together in order to make her rise again, I'm all for it. ;) That's not politics, or if it is it's a right one because it means that the manager is doing his job properly, IMO.
I don't think they will force Yulia to do anything. As far as I know this not the approach in Russia, like in France for example. They can suggest, advice and help you with the coach, but I don't remember skaters being forced to change or choose their coaches in Russia.

Amen to that.

The main thing is that they calmed clan CSKA.

Is there any news yet?

Lull. It is only known that Julia until you receive the training, but this is explained by the fact that she is preparing to take algebra in high school. There are opposite opinions about the rift in the team. But no confirmations. One well - wishers quieted down.

Mat, do you know the nature of the rift? The worst scenario is for her to go back to the same conditions, Eteri and Ilya. Ilya walked into SL-in-progress, added his touches to Yulia's choice and Yulia's concept, and it was a triumph. Then he failed this year, his limitations became evident. Eteri can't work miracles, the stage was set. Eteri is perfect for Yulia, Ilya must go. bellflower got this right about a month ago.

It's impossible to exaggerate how much Yulia and her mother have accomplished. They came out of nowhere with almost nothing, with only themselves to rely on. She and her mother lived in uncertainty and vulnerability for so many years. Despite this Yulia became what she is today. As I thought about this I realized the significance to her, if she knows she has the loyal support of the most powerful people in her sport. After her China debacle she was surprised at the fed's understanding. They reminded her of Liza's experience with words of sympathy and encouragement, instead of telling her she disgraced her country (as she expected). Imagine the security she would feel if luminaries of Russian skating stood by her now and helped her recover. The fed can lift a burden from her that few can even imagine.

Choreographer should work with the star continuously and in the long term. This proved Maslennikova-Rodionova. Maslennikova works with Goncharenko-(Rodionova and others) for several years and all the time successfully. Averbukh can work with Julia only in fits and starts. His main concern in another place. One luck will be some failures.
Eteri was also sprayed on many of their students. In addition, Eteri is a good coach, but only the coach and no more. She was unable to cope with the problem of the transformation of Julia. Moreover, Yulia remained flaws in jumping. Because of this, this season it took so many points. Yes, the judges were explicitly biased, but in General, the reduction was justified. Talked about this and foes and friends of Julia. Eteri about it does not say a word.
Therefore, in any case, the team of Julia need to change. On the nature of the split in the discussions there are only indirect data and guesses, but nothing specific. I have the impression (just an impression) what is the tension takes place, but all they do not want to wash dirty linen in public.

Thanks for all this information, Mat.

This is really good news about the choreographer. Continuously and long term. Great. It sounds like Ilya is history. one luck will be some failures is an understatement. The challenge now is to find someone who is artistically compatible with Yulia.

Does anyone have understanding of the jumps criticism directed at Eteri? Hasn't Yulia jumped well in the past? If so, this would not be Eteri's fault, but rather the skater's block interfering again? It is true that Eteri wasn't able to guide Yulia to overcome her problems this year, but the problems weren't deficient skating skills. Yulia herself said they were psychological and didn't know what was wrong. Was Eteri expected to arrange for counseling? Is Eteri responsible for general team management, including retaining Ilya? Or is it that Eteri has too many students--which is what Yulia complained about after China. Does Eteri get to choose her students, are there limits? There was an indication that something was wrong after the Russian Nationals short program, Yulia and Eteri were not sitting on the same couch and Eteri looked uptight. Time to bring in the oddsmakers.

I think its a little too soon to be writing Eteri off as a bad coach for Yulia  We should see what happens next season...There's only so much a coach can do for their skater if the problem is mainly psych. Maybe a change within the team will improve the situation but I still think its too early to say she needs to change coaches completely.

You are very deeply dug in their questions. Don't see an exact answer. And Eteri and Julia closed enough people. This information is available only on some parts. And this information is often confusing. The rest can only guess. But to cover as a whole is still possible and it turns out that, most likely, all this takes place in varying degrees.
As for criticism Eteri, what is amazing? she heads the team! Was a huge success and were celebrating. Against this background, the criticism was not perceived. And now a huge failure.
It is clear that to solve the problems we need to do something specific, but what exactly? No one answers this question. So go talk about the change of coach.
