Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

It seems I should play the devil here.
Yuzuru still needs to fix a lot of his problems.
- About the jumps:
First is the 4S, second is his luzt combo in the SP, third is his Flip jump (not wrong edge anymore thankfully, but flat/unclear edge)
- About the spins:
I hope he will drop the A-spin whenever he couldn't do Biellmann. There's another spin position he can do, just not the A-spin!!!! That spin is very unflattering. =__=''
- About the steps:
He needs to improve the steps and transition in the LP, it has been simplified due to his injuries I know but once he gets healthy again he needs to get ready for all the difficult transitions and steps again.
- About the levels:
He needs to get more level 4. I hope he will recheck the reason Japanese tech panel only gave him level 3 in his SP.
- About the stamina:
Still not enough, he aims to do 3 quads in the long so his stamina is still not enough. He needs more.
- About the posture, arm movement:
I hope he will try his best to not slouch on ice, I know he can never be a balletic skater but at lease he can make the best of his ability so people can stop bla bla bla about his postures and extensions (but seriously I think he has the best posture in the jump, especially his landing posture, no one makes it better). Actually I like his arm movement in the SP. I guess in the LP it's the choreographer's choices? But nevertheless he needs to adapt his arm movement to all kinds of choreography.
- About the layout of his programs:
Next season I hope he will change the layout again and do something different, it doesn't have to be harder, just different (like different order?)
- And last but not least:
He still needs to improve skating skills even more because next season PChiddy will be back.

I don't disagree with many of you points (though some I do disagree). But that is what I love most about figure skating. It is always a continually evolving challenging mix of art and athletic challenge. I am sure next year will be even better for Hanyu!

Quote from poster FS_rrb about Yuzuru's FS at GPF, from GPF thread

And finally, the incredible, awesome, mind-blowing: the great Yuzuru Hanyu. I was extremely nervous when the program started, I wanted to witness something extraordinary just like I did a year before in Paris with Patrick. And I did, again. It was such an emotional skate. Yuzuru has such a command of the ice...it's really amazing. Improved skating skills, awesome jumps and something difficult to describe, something special (charisma?) that really catches you. I admit I'm a fan (Daisuke, Patrick and Yuzuru and clearly my favourite skaters in recent years) but I'm trying to be as objective as possible.

Technically, he's a beast. No one, no one, comes close to the quality of his jumps in person because they are just incredibly soft, airy and, yet, powerful. Others might have big jumps, but the way Yuzuru lands them is unreal, not to talk about his air position. PCS could be improved, but they are already great. We always compare him with Patrick, but we have to take into account that Patrick's skating skills are almost impossible to equal, since he has been working on them since he started skating as a kid. To me, Yuzuru's ability to interpret and move audiences is superior to Patrick's, though.

I remember my cousin (not a figure skating fan, but a little more fan now after the GPF) looking at me just after Yuzu's quads and triple flip and saying "this is just amazing". We went crazy at the end, he's just that great. Even a week after the event we talked about how great seeing the GPF live was and she still mentioned Yuzu's performance as the highlight of the final..."you couldn't take your eyes off him, he was like floating" she said. An incredible experience. I hope I get more chances to see figure skating live. I'm addicted now!

Thank you for your attention! I hope you've enjoyed my thought!

Looks like a limited edition of stamps for Tohoku has been launch, it will ship around Japan

Edit.

The stamp collection has a special message from Yuzuru

"When someone believes in me, I can believe in myself. That is when hope is turned into strength. I was able to mature this far because of the thoughts I received from many people. Everyone in Tohoku, thank you very much for always warmly watching over me."

Special thanks to Nonchan for always helping with translations, girl you are a MVP

:agree: ! and with Abe for her fantastic choices of music that seems to fit yuzuru perfectly!
I would be really interested in seeing him work with Abe for a competitive program again. I liked Takahashi's SP that she did for him back in the 2012-2013 season. Even though I think a lot of people thought it a bit trite, I thought it was good fun.

watching his official practices before competitions (especially during gpf2014), one thing i noticed with him is that he does some movements (like with his hands moving in a particular motion that accents the music before his 3a3t combo) in between his elements, i dont know if its part of the original choreography or not, but the moves complement his program but then he leaves them out during actual competitions. I mean, is it a thing for him to do this all the time like forgets to do it in actual competitions or he just randomly adds them during practice and are not really part of his choreo?
It's probably more of the original choreography that he's has to consciously leave out for actual competitions due to his recovery/conserving energy, but that he still has the muscle memory of (and will probably attempt to bring back for Worlds along with more nuanced CH and difficult TR). He's an amazing skater to watch in practice when he's relaxed.

:agree: He is still growing and developing to what he will become as a skater and seeing him develop/improve so much is what makes it exciting to see what he will become in a few years. Hopefully with proper guidance from his team that he wont stagnate and will keep on improving.
I think with Hanyu, who is seemingly always reaching for heights beyond even the scope of the fans imagination, he will never stagnate, be it technically or artistically.

:agree:

Still a nostalgic and painful memory to me, Nanami produced an unmatched FS in 2011/12 season , together with B&B. Everytime I watch Scriabin SP I have the same feeling too .. .
I often think about what will come next if she could only have another chance, nobody knows Yuzu's true essence better than her , a shining diamond like Hana wa Saku was created in just 3 hours...

Someone did a little translation from the article about Yuzuru´s dad

Brief translation: His father is hot-blooded and strict. He teaches a compulsory course about craftmanship and homemaking and he is also a baseball coach. He can make a tearing kid stop crying immediately. He would slap/pat the face of his students if they are getting very tired to cheer them up. His students are afraid of him but meanwhile like him as he is always optimistic and cheerful.

I thought his father was a math teacher and now he is a viceprinciple?

I think he might stick with this layout since he'll be recovering from his surgery, i dunno... what i dread is the day he'll decide to keep his Poto program for next season just so he can skate to its original layout. I mean dont get me wrong, its lovely but i wish to see different programs from him as many as possible.

:agree: i really really hope so!

A translated interview with Hanyu...some hilarious comments about the 'Russia!' calls during the Olympics and how Hanyu dealt with them.

Thanks for the link of the translation. That was indeed hilarious!

Btw, I always feel Yuzu is a cheerful yet extremely honest/sincere person. I don't know that a skater (athlete) would reveal in such details about his/her skating and mindset, in the conditions of good or bad. I felt the most from his interviews during NHK.

Thanks for sharing!
So he actually thought they were cheering his name
"...and since I didn’t do well either, I think we were in the same place. I will probably compete with him again, so next time I hope we can both give it our best."  -it was kind of sad that both these talented skaters didnt have the olympic skate that they wanted in sochi. now that one is back and is also aiming for 2018 olys, i hope both of them will be able to have the olympic performance that they dream of.

I always have the impression that his father is a principle...from this board. I am increasingly curious about his parents, and how they raised Yuzu.

I am too. Has there ever been a photo or sighting of his dad at competitions? His mom is always there but she never is shown in the crowd as far as I know. They have done an incredible job as parents to raise a child like Yuzu.

Beside the account of the photographer of Yuzuru photobook that was a student of Yuzuru´s father never.

But Borser said that his family is really close so I imagine at least in Japan competition both father and his sister must be in there.

I've read few articles saying his father is a vice-principal of a junior high school, and I think it is/was true. But it seems that his parents want medias to keep away from his family privacy. They never appear on medias, IIRC not even when he won the Olympics. It's from a gossip magazine again but I've read his mother used to be with him during interviews (I'm not sure if she does that still) and if an interviewer asks him about his family, his mother told them not to because family is a topic not related to the sport. So they are very secretive. I suppose they don't like the Japanese media attentions and I respect that ;)

I SWEAR I heard a commentator (Terry Gannon, perhaps, with Tara and Johnny last season) say his dad was a baseball player...or maybe that was someone else.

Well I heard he was a baseball coach (or adviser?) at the school he teaches... We are all so confused!LOL

Edit: Perhaps his dad was a baseball player but didn't become professional player (like he played in school clubs). That makes sense.
