Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

Come on, Plushy ? We can joke about that, but what he could teach Yuzuru ? Potentially only doing quad-quad combinations, quad axels and other crazy stuff like that

We will find out soon what's going on, but many things comes to my mind including that Brian doesn't talk too much about Yuzuru because he is not training now at all, and he will go to Worlds totally unprepared :slink:
I remember that Elvis Stojko in recent interview with TSL talked that he got I think injuired ankle (?) before Worlds and doctors said to him he can't trains instantly for weeks before it to not make it serious, but he can push himself for a week before Worlds only, and that's what he did :drama:

Plushenko is NOT A COACH. He had never coached a high class athlete before, he had never coached anyone, he has no experience AT ALL. And it does not matter how much you respect him- he is not a coach.

It's true that he's never coached a high level athlete but to say he has "no experience at all" is totally incorrect. He has done many master classes, he has worked with other skaters such as Artur Dmitriev Jr. He has been asked before to coach skaters in Japan & the US, but he didn't want to commit to that at this point.

As for what he could teach Yuzuru? Well, what can anyone teach him, then? Yuzuru asked him for help when they did shows together last time. I'm not saying Plushy should or would coach him (he has a pretty packed schedule already) but there are plenty of people Yuzuru could learn something from, and Plushy is certainly someone he respects and admires, so why not?

Master classes are not full time coaching when you have to make a plan and work with someone for his success. Plushenko had never done that and I doubt that he ever will.

1) had Brian said "but we exchange emails", naturally there would be a follow up question like "How's Hanyu's condition now?". Maybe Brian simply didn't want to invite such questions, just to protect Yuzu.
2) There was an extremely bad and long lasting blizzard in North America during the winter. I lived in the east coast, USA last year so I know that that coldness is definitely not good for an asthma patient. Toronto was even worse. I'm actually happy that Yuzu has been staying in a warmer place.

Did I say it was full time coaching? You claimed he has no experience, and I'm saying he has taught skaters before. And that isn't the extent of it, if you read the rest of my post. He has spent time working with skaters one-on-one as well. Yes, he fully intends to coach at some point down the road, why do you doubt it? Orser didn't start coaching until he had been retired for what, 20 years?

For the 2nd reason, you got a good point. That COULD be a reason why he isn't in Toronto. In Virginia, it's been BITTERLY cold for over a month. It's 57 degrees Fahrenheit now and I stood outside a few hours ago for a pinch in short shorts (Soffe shorts to be exact because I had a tumbling lesson at home) and I didn't feel cold enough to go inside right away. Actually it didn't feel cold. In fact I declared, "Let's go to the beach!" As a joke cause it's been a while since it hit that temperature.

Yes! Exactly! I don't understand why, but these two years the temperature just suddenly dropped? Why? Last year it was the North Pole storm or something? This year is even worse. The temperature dropped to the lowest in many years. And in my state a few dozen people died because of the coldness.

That was the point- coaching, not giving master classes. Plushenko is not ready to bring Yuzuru to the Olympic gold. Period.

It will be a shame if Yuzu can't go training with a coach because of cold weather. If it contintues to be that cold, then Yuzu might need to think about hiring two coaches? Brian in Canada during summer, and another one in a warmer place during winter...

I think it's a one time thing. I lived in USA for many years and I can assure you, this year's storm is very rare. Here's what Wikipedia says about it.

Not that I'm really confident about my guess. I'm just happy that he doesn't have to suffer this bad weather.

That's more or less what happened before 2013 world's... Yuzuru had the flu and then a knee injury IIRC one after th other just before London's championship, but still managed to flight until the end.
I started following Yuzuru career in 2012 and in this 4 season I've learned something: he will always try at the best of his abilities and very little can stand between his determination and his goals, so let's have some faith in this brave, foolish and utterly amzing boy!!

And Winnie-the-Pooh-loving of course.

Josh Farris talked a little about Hanyu-san today.

Wait Joshua is only a month younger than Yuzuru? Or did I hear it wrong? I thought the age gap was between them was bigger. And what World Championship is he talking about? 2014?
I like how even skaters of Yuzuru's generation look up to him :)

He's talking about Junior Worlds. His winning LP.

Yuzuru was born in December 1994. Josh was born in January 1995.

Yuzuru, Joshua and Jason Brown are all the same age. Yuzuru moved up to senior level at age 15, while Joshua and Jason stayed juniors for 3 more years. So Yuzuru has been skating as a senior for much longer (which is why he may seem "older").
