I just noticed something. The news says the giant poster equals 16 yuzu. If that is accurate, Yuzu's height is 28.4/16=177.5 cm. or if they rounded the length of the poster to 28m, then yuzu is 28/16=175cm.

Maybe they include the heights of the skating boots. What's the average height of skating boots? My guess is Yuzu is around 173-175cm.

I'll keep being my (VERY) stubborn self and say that Yuzuru is a bit smaller than Javi (172-173cm). All the pics I've seen (from this year) showed him being around 2-3 cm smaller than him.

Kids these days are attempting difficult jumps at such a young age, and the media likes to compare the promising kids to Yuzuru. I think Yuzuru’s flexibility and spins stood out a lot more when he was young. It seems that this boy has good jumping abilities, but he is not very flexible. (Actually most boys are not very flexible.) It’s actually not easy to find a boy like Yuzuru who has both great jumping ability and flexibility. It also seems that having a long and slender body helps with jumping in figure skating. Sota and Jin Boyang have a similar build as Yuzuru, long and slender, and they are good jumpers too.

Yes, it's so fascinating (somewhat frightening) to see such small kids do difficult jumps.

Akiko Suzuki landed her first 3T-3T combination in a competition at her age of 24-25 (sorry I'm not sure). Fumie Suguri gave up 3-3 combination after all, but still she won podiums many times. But now, 3-3 combination jumps are quite usual layout for girls. Yuna Aoki (13) has landed 3Lz+3Lp combination already in competitions. (Although it may be easier for little girls considering their body shape change.)

Boyang Jin landed quad 3 times in his FP. Even Yuzuru did not include quad jumps in his program when he won Junior Worlds. Just 5 years difference. How far will they go?

I want to see the development, but I wish them a healthy athelete life at the same time hwell:

Yagudin tried 4A, but I heard he had given it up because he felt it was life threatening.

By the way, I didn't see this R&J1 in Nice with Belgian commentary (with Japanese subtitles) before. Have you?

They are praising Yuzuru's performance highly. I understand they call it "suspense" through Japanese translation Is this a correct translation? I'm not sure.

Any news that comes before we actually see him at worlds will probably be ambiguous and confusing, so I don't mind there not being any news for now.
And I'm prepared for ANYTHING at Worlds. He could be 10th, he could win. I'm just hoping he will be safe. -And I'll root for him no matter what.
It seems like such a big thing right now, to us and probably also to him...but it is just one season. There will be other seasons.
(OMG how will I survive the drama??)

I agree with you. He is 20 years old and he won all the most important titles: Worlds , Olympics, he was 2 times GPF champion, one silver medalist at GPF, 3 times Japanese Champion. But he had an awfull season 2014-2015. He had a scary crash but he didn't give up, he fought and he won the GPF title in style, with so much power of a real fighter. He has the right to compete with no pressure, no expectations. We love and admire him even if he will not be the winner ( as he deserves ). Go Yuzuru!

Wish him well in that arena. He said he'd never want to see his first phantom costume again and asked his Mom to hide it from where he can possibly see. I don't know how he would feel about stepping on that arena again.

I think the technical progress (in men’s field) has a lot to do with the rule change 5 years ago, when they re-adjusted the base values of jumps (raised the values of quads), and reduced the penalty for mistakes. For ladies, I think the technical demand is a lot higher because the field is becoming more crowded and competitive. Athletes today take a lot more risks than in the past, but they also have better training facility and medical care, so maybe it’s not as scary as we think. I do believe that every athlete deserves respects for all the hard work and all the risks they take, even if you don’t like their performance style, unless they do something unethical (like doping).

Well Brian has said that Yuzuru is quite superstitious, so who knows. I just hope his determination will help him overcome any uneasiness he may have.

It's in French. My French isn't as it used to be, so I only caught about 80 %, but yes, it's a very flattering piece of commentary. The word "suspense" (with French pronounciation) is actually used, so I'd say the translation is correct. ;-)

It's strange because the only reliable information I know is that they couldn't remove the blood from his original costume. So they had to make a new one in a short period of time. I believe he said it in an interview.

I heard of that blood reason as well. The never want to see it again thing came out later. I think that is quite believable so didn't even bother to check if it is reliable or not. And three weeks (coc to NHK) is long enough to have some blood stains removed after all, I suppose.

I see.... never really knew that.... miss that first costume though.....that was so stunning! but yuzu looks nice in almost anything (with the only exception - the vertigo one in my opinion)
